The COVID-19 pandemic had put pressure on the healthcare systems. During the first months of 2020, resilience became a common word. The literature on resilience focuses mainly on private companies, however, the healthcare sector needs further research to investigate how to develop resilience.
In light of the consequences of the pandemic during the first wave of COVID-19, this research aims at analysing what are the capabilities and how to develop them in the healthcare setting during a pandemic event. The research deepened the peculiarities of supply chain resilience to investigate the management of COVID-19 patient flows during the first wave of the pandemic. Because of the scarcity of empirical studies related to the patient flows during a pandemic event in the supply chain resilience literature and due to the currency of the investigated phenomenon, the thesis, by adopting the dynamic capability theory as a theoretical lens, investigates the dynamic capabilities needed for developing resilience. Moreover, the research identifies how resilience should be developed to manage patient flows during a pandemic.
The empirical analysis adopted a qualitative methodology based on multiple case studies. The data provided by nine healthcare organisations have been gathered by semi-structured interviews, field observations and documents.
The research contributes to shedding light on the conceptual clarity of the resilience development process by adopting the dynamic capability theory as a theoretical lens and identifying the dynamic capabilities, activities and practices to develop resilience.
Furthermore, the research highlights for each activity the level of maturity of the identified resilience practices, thus providing a tool for managerial practice to develop resilience in healthcare organisations. Finally, the research reveals 12 theoretical propositions concerning how the development of the identified dynamic capabilities has been favoured

In the Industry 4.0 era, the development of digital technologies and the digitalization of firms are rapidly evolving trends. While significant attention has been devoted to technological issues, scholars and practitioners are also emphasizing the essential role of managerial practices and employee engagement in enhancing performance. Under this trend, research on the effectiveness of coaching interventions in improving organizational performance has also increased. Our study reveals that coaching research has undergone a shift in focus from the perspective of the coach to the coachee and from individual performance to organizational effects. Moreover, the findings emphasize that coaching research is increasingly focusing on performance management practices to enhance employee engagement and performance
Key managerial activities to support public performance measurement and management: The case of an effective Italian Court
A new measure of Italian hidden energy poverty
As highlighted by European policymakers and academic research, the global economic crisis of 2008 emphasized the energy poverty phenomenon. A number of households have had to considerably reduce their energy expenditure but the traditional criteria adopted to calculate energy poverty are not able to measure their number. Placed in this framework, the paper aims to define a new measure of hidden energy poverty suitable to identify which Italian households restrain their energy consumption due to their inability to afford energy services. A review of the available energy poverty metrics supports the definition of a new indicator that is able to include hidden energy-poor consumers considering some key peculiarities such as the poor energy efficiency of buildings, the poverty situation, low energy consumption and sensitivity to the climate. Using data from the Household Budget Survey provided by the Italian National Institute of Statistics in 2018, the newly identified indicator supports the assessment of the percentage of Italian households in hidden energy poverty and supplies useful insight to policymakers in their effort to support vulnerable consumers
The Evolution of Balanced Scorecard in Healthcare: A Systematic Review of Its Design, Implementation, Use, and Review
During the last few years, the interest in performance measurement increased within the healthcare sector. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare systems needed to boost performance measurement systems to become more resilient and improve their capability in monitoring key performance indicators. Since the 1990s, the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) model has been widely used among private and public organizations as it is the most adopted model to measure performance. The current paper aims at understanding the evolution of BSC in healthcare. The systematic literature review has been carried out by searching keywords according to PRISMA guidelines. By analyzing papers through one classification of BSC adoption phases, the results reveal that studies focused mainly on the BSC design process, rather than BSC implementation, use, or review. However, there is no agreement about the perspectives to be adopted in healthcare. Concerning BSC implementation and use, on one side especially leadership, culture and communication enable the BSC implementation. On the other side, monitoring and strategic decision-making are the most widespread objectives for using BSC. Concerning BSC review, however, the paper highlights a need for additional research. Finally, the paper provides further research opportunities concerning the phases suitable for implementing a BSC in healthcare

Human Resources Planning and Control Using Corporate Performance Measurement
reservedThis thesis explores the implementation of Corporate Performance Management (CPM) and its potential to improve business planning and control in organizations' human resources (HR). The primary research question focuses on identifying how CPM can enhance HR functions. To address this question, the study begins with an extensive literature review of CPM and its utilization in HR. The research then delves into the examination of the advantages and limitations of employing CPM compared to traditional Business Intelligence (BI) software.
A case study approach is employed to investigate a company that has integrated an HR planning system with CPM. Through this analysis, the key factors that influence the successful implementation of CPM in organizations are identified. Moreover, the study aims to develop best practices for implementing CPM and provide practical guidance and recommendations for organizations considering its adoption. By accomplishing these objectives, the thesis contributes to the existing knowledge on CPM and its impact on business planning and control. This thesis explores the implementation of Corporate Performance Management (CPM) and its potential to improve business planning and control in organizations' human resources (HR). CRM in B2B in a context of Digital Transformation: the Gruppo Montenegro case
This study aims to examine the impact on both individual and organisational performance of CRM in B2B in a digital transformation context.
Overall, the work includes: an in-depth literature review on CRM in relation to the business-to-business (B2B) world and the digital transformation; the preparation of a set of questions to be asked through interviews with the business functions examined (sales force, marketing, customer service); and the revision of the data collected in results to study the impact of CRM for each function.
The results, in agreement with previous studies, confirmed how the adoption of a CRM has a positive impact on the entire enterprise. In particular, it was found that the success of CRM, and the resulting positive impact on performance, depends mainly on the support from leadership to establish a CRM culture and to mitigate resistance to change. Finally, it was found that the presence of a technology partner favours the success of CRM and, more generally, the digitalisation path of a company.
The main limitation of this study relates to the adoption of a relatively small analysis sample. Future research may examine a larger sample in order to favour the generalisability of the results. Furthermore, they could examine the impact of the joint adoption of a set of technologies, so as to analyse how CRM interacts and creates synergies with the other technological tools adopted by enterprises in a digital transformation journey
" The role of predictive maintenance in enhancing performance: an empirical investigation in a manufacturing company. "
reservedHistorically, the reputation of product companies has been created on the foundation of offering premium goods at reasonable costs. The businesses attempted to satisfy clients' requirements as effectively and efficiently as they could by developing “Improvements in equipment maintenance, inventory optimization, and worker health and safety are also sources of value in factories." (McKinsey&Company, 2015).
Many industries need effective maintenance process management in order to be profitable and survive over the long run. In fact, most sectors require an effective and efficient maintenance process to ensure asset performance, which is frequently measured in terms of high asset availability, high degree of safety, and good quality.
The emergence of the internet of things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 have made possible the interconnectedness between machines and products, and the collection and analysis of data with the use of sensors.
A real case study was presented to quantify the savings that result from transitioning from a standard maintenance approach (corrective and preventative) to a predictive maintenance solution.
Specifically, the core of the thesis would be a real demonstration of how predictive maintenance contributes to help the companies to improve maintenance performances, especially focusing on the financial metrics.
Implemented sensors, analytics and real-time data to help identify existing maintenance issues before an actual malfunction or accident happens. Efficiency is not only cost saving, but it also is waste reduction. The only way to compete effectively for established companies is to start cooperating in an unprecedented way and start thinking in terms of ecosystems (ICT4Executive, 2014)
