P- and S-wave migration of while drilling data
I investigate some aspects of multicomponent processing in seismic while drilling (SWD) acquisitions. I start from the consideration that a working roller cone is a good source of either P- and S-waves. Then, by examining the radiation pattern of the bit, I evaluate the subsurface illumination in simple models and for different geophones directivity. It results that S-waves can increase the lateral extent of the imaged area, while P-waves obtain a higher illumination in the vicinity of the borehole. By using the appropriate velocity model it is possible to produce separately a migrated gather for P-waves and one for S-waves. In addition, migration gathers can be observed in the aperture angle domain. I show the results on SWD synthetic and real data. The information that can be recovered about both compressional and shear properties of the subsurface, especially during the drilling process, can be crucial to predict overpressured zones and to reduce the ambiguity between variations in pore pressure and variations in lithology
Non-normal purely log terminal centres in characteristic p >= 3
We show, building on a recent work of Totaro (The failure of Kodaira vanishing for Fano varieties, and terminal singularities that are not Cohen-Macaulay, 2017. arXiv:1710.04364v1), that for every prime number p >= 3 there exists a purely log terminal pair (Z, S) of dimension 2p + 2 whose plt centre S is not normal
Redistribution or education?: the political economy of the social race
In an overlapping generations model with two social classes, rich and poor, parents of the different social classes vote on two issues: redistributive policies for them and education investments for their kids. Public education is the engine for growth through its effect on human capital; but it is also the vehicle through which kids born from poor families may exchange their positions with kids born from rich families. This is because education reduces the probability of the mismatch, i.e. individuals with low talent but coming from rich families being placed in jobs which should be reserved to people with high talent (and vice-versa). We find a political economy equilibrium of the voting game using probabilistic voting. When the poor are more politically influent, the economy is characterized by a higher level of education, growth and social mobility than under political regimes supported by the rich; pretax inequality is greater in the first case, but post-tax is lower

Minimization of P-Circuits using Boolean Relations
In this paper, we investigate how to use the complete
flexibility of P-circuits, which realize a Boolean function by projecting it onto overlapping subsets given by a generalized Shannon decomposition.
It is known how to compute the complete flexibility of P-circuits, but the algorithms proposed so far for its exploitation do not guarantee to find the best implementation, because they cast the problem as the {\em minimization of an incompletely specified function}. Instead, here we show that to explore all solutions we must set up the problem as the {\em minimization of a Boolean relation}, because there are don't care conditions that cannot be expressed by single cubes.
In the experiments we report major improvements with respect to the previously published results

Do fiscal variables affect fiscal expectations? Experiments with real world and lab data
We generate observable expectations about fiscal variables through laboratory experiments using realworld data fromseveral European countries as stimuli. We compare a VAR model of expectations for data that is presented in a fiscal frame with one for neutrally presented data.We test the validity of the setup and find that participants understand the meaning of the fiscal variables, but also that their ability to perceive the correct characteristics of fiscal policy is limited. Expectations are consistent neither with rational nor with purely adaptive expectations, but instead follow an augmented-adaptive scheme
