Voltage regulation in distribution networks in the presence of distributed generation: LVR and E-OLTC with a machine learning approach
This paper deals with voltage regulation in medium voltage distribution networks with high penetration of distributed photovoltaic generation. More specifically, it considers electronic on-load tap changers and line voltage regulators as voltage control mechanisms operated exclusively by a machine learning algorithm. The considered network is a real-life 10 kV feeder with 41 equivalent loads and nine equivalent photovoltaic generators. Two years of real smart meters hourly data are considered for the feeder's loads and, together with simulated power generation data of photovoltaic systems, are used as inputs to a deep neural network. The data are first fed to a PowerFactory model of the feeder, and then, using quasi-dynamic analysis, the correct tap positions of electronic on-load tap changers and line voltage regulators are used as outputs. These inputs and outputs are finally utilized for training the deep neural network, which is expected will predict the outputs well when fed by new inputs never seen before
Psoas muscle pyogenic abscess in association with infected hip arthroplasty: A rare case of simultaneous bilateral presentation
Simultaneous bilateral presentation of psoas abscess with prosthetic joint involvement is extremely rare. A 68-year-old woman presented to us with bilateral dull aching groin pain of 6 months' duration, which flared up in the past month, associated with pyrexial symptoms. She had undergone bilateral hip replacements in the past with uneventful recovery. MRI showed bilateral psoas muscle collection in communication with the hip joints. Preoperative hip aspirate demonstrated frank pus with positivity on Gram stain and radiographs confirmed prosthetic loosening of bilateral hips. The patient subsequently underwent two-stage revision arthroplasty of both infected hip implants. At 5-year follow-up, the patient remains asymptomatic with good functional outcome and no recurrence on serial MRI
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
A GIS‐Based Approach for Primary Substations Siting and Timing Based on Voronoi Diagram and Particle Swarm Optimization Method
The paper aims to provide primary substations’ optimal siting and timing to expand ex-isting distribution networks. The proposed methodology relies on three main features: a geographic information system for capturing, elaborating, and displaying spatial input data; a particle swarm optimization algorithm to locate and timing the new primary substations; a Voronoi diagram‐based approach to find the primary substation service areas and loading. The optimization criteria follow the approach of serving every customer from the nearest primary substation to ensure that the distribution delivery distance is as short as possible, reducing feeders’ cost, electric losses, and service interruption exposure. The algorithm also considers the primary substation transformers’ capacity limit. Thanks to Unareti, the distribution system operator of Milan and Brescia, the methodology was tested by carrying out several simulations, progressively increasing the number of new primary substations. The results obtained confirm the proposed approach’s effectiveness and show that the methodology is a valuable tool to guide Unareti, and distribution system operators in general, in expanding distribution networks to face the challenges of the energy transition
