Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Balance of payments adjustment through public absorption an estimation of an ARDL model in a panel of MENA and eastern European countries

Abstract One of the most difficult problems in the field of public economic policies and their effects on the fundamental macroeconomic variables lies in their impact on the external sector variables; hence the need to control public expenditure in proportions that are deemed useful and that would be compatible with the objectives set in order to ensure the fundamental balances at both the internal and external levels. The purpose of this article, from this perspective, is to focus on the balance of payments adjustment through public absorption, for a sample of 11 countries from the MENA region and the European continent. By bursting public absorption in two fundamental components: public consumption and public investment, we highlight how action on these two main components could adjust the balance of payments balances for the selected countries. Adopting the lessons of the absorption approach, often referred to as fiscal or financial, as a comprehensive approach to balance of payments adjustment, we will estimate an ARDL panel model using advanced panel data modelling techniques. Our empirical results underline the existence of a short- and long-term adjustment relationship between public absorption and external balances, regardless of the method adopted to measure them: external balance of goods and services or current account balance. These empirical results corroborate the prediction of the Keynesian Absorption Hypothesis and reject the Ricardian Hypothesis that there is no link between internal and external balances. Therefore, we discuss the implications of our results to highlight the main measures that would be consistent with macroeconomic adjustment policies, especially for MENA countries where internal and external imbalances are more persistent compared to the European continent. Keywords: absorption approach, adjustment, balance of payments, public investment, public consumption

The effect of the fiscal and monetary policies interaction on the economic growth in Morocco – An ARDL approach.

Abstract

This research paper aims to empirically investigate the effect of the interaction between fiscal and monetary policies on the real GDP growth in Morocco. We use Auto-Regressive Distributive Lag Bounds Model (ARDL Bounds test) for co-integration and the Error Correction Model (ECM) in the ARDL, for the period from Q1-2000 to Q2-2023 to analyze the short-run and long-run effects. The main results conclude that there is a co-integration between fiscal and monetary policies and they both affect GDP growth in Morocco which reflects their key role in promoting growth. At the long-run. Fiscal policy is more effective than monetary policy. In the short term, the impact of monetary policy through interest rate instrument is greater than fiscal policy variables. Thus, strengthening coordination between monetary authorities and Government and increasing fiscal space would reinforce their respective capacity to converge towards an optimal policy mix oriented to support economic activity and improve the resilience of the Moroccan economy.

Keywords

Fiscal policy - Monetary policy – GDP growth - ARDL</p&gt

A Participatory Financial Decision-Making of The Micro Business

Since the owner-managers of TPE occupy a dominant position in their role as the main decision-maker of the company, the financing structure of the company is their personal choice; the decisions that owner-operators make may therefore depend on the characteristics of the owners and the businesses (Michaelas et al., 1999). In this "new" reality, researchers and financial practitioners recognize the need to solve financial decision problems by going beyond the limits of traditional financial theories. This new alternative was announced at the end of the 1970s, it was the birth of the theory of behavioral finance, which was launched from the study of Kahneman and Tversky (1979). Over the past 30 years, behavioral finance has become one of the most widely used theories to understand and interpret the behavior of investors and policymakers in making their investment and funding decisions. It is still an emerging field (Kourtidis, Šević and Chatzoglou, 2011), but it has received a lot of attention from professionals and academic staff. This article is a review of the literature on the capital structure of companies, by mobilizing traditional financial theories that help to understand the financial decision-making of VSE leaders

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
