Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Hyponatremia in COVID-19 patient using angiotensin type 1 receptor (AT1R) blocker and diuretic: a case report
IntroductionOn 31 December 2019, a cluster of pneumonia cases withunknown etiology was reported in Wuhan city, Hubeiprovince of China. A novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV- 2)was later detected as the causative agent and the clinicalcondition was called coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19).The SARS-CoV-2 infection has a wide clinical coursethat can progress from mild symptoms such as fever, sorethroat, cough to pneumonia and acute severe respiratoryfailure. The S protein of SARS-CoV-2 is thought to bindto the host cell angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)receptor and cause the disease.Case PresentationAn 82-year-old male patient presented to the emergencyroom with fever and cough. He had a history of diabetesmellitus, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease and coronarybypass, been on a regular prescription of metformin,rasagiline, telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Aprescription was issued to treat bacterial pneumonia andhe was discharged with a plan of outpatient follow-upby the department of pulmonology. Three days later, hecame back to the emergency department as his complaintscontinued. As the patient had bilateral infiltrations on thethorax CT-scan, consultation from specialists in infectiousdiseases and pulmonology departments was requested.Viral pneumonia was considered by the consultantsas the possible diagnosis; oseltamivir was added to histreatment and an outpatient follow-up for five days wasrecommended. Because of his increasing complaints andadditional shortness of breath despite the treatment, hewas referred to us at the emergency department followinga review appointment at the pulmonology outpatientclinic.In physical examination, the patient appeared alert,oriented and cooperative with the following vital signs:temperature 36.7ºC, pulse rate of 88 beats/minute,respiratory rate of 18 per minute, blood pressure of182/106 mm Hg, and oxygen saturation of 90%. Hisbreathing was spontaneous and unaided. Bilateral ralesand rhonchi were detected in lung auscultation. Othersystem findings were normal.In laboratory tests; lymphocyte count was 0.8 × 103cells/µL, serum sodium: 115 mmol/L, C-reactive protein(CRP): 30 mg/L, lactate: 2.1 mmol/L. There were bilateralperipheral infiltrations in HRCT (Figure 1). The SARSCoV-2 serology test was positive, he was thereforehospitalized in an isolated bed in intensive care unit.Serum sodium values and lymphocyte counts of the recenthospital admission are displayed in Figure 2.DiscussionSARS-CoV-2 interacts strongly with ACE2 in human cellsdue to S-protein.1,2 Therefore, cells expressing ACE2 areat high risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection.3 SARS-CoV-2binds to type 2 alveolar cells in the lung through theACE2 receptor, causing the disease. Therefore, in a studycomparing ACE2 expression rates in other organs, lungACE2 expression rate was accepted as the reference value.3Other high-risk organ cells for SARS-CoV-2 infectioninclude ileum epithelial cells, myocardial cells and kidneyproximal tubule cells.3 Xu et al reported that ACE2receptors were also interestingly expressed in lymphocytesin oral mucosa; SARS-CoV-2 attacked lymphocytesresulting in increased morbidity of the patients.4 Itwas noted that the reported symptoms of COVID-19(dyspnea, diarrhea, acute heart damage, kidney failure)could be associated with fusion of the virus into the cellsin high risk organs, especially in the presence of viremia.3ACE inhibitors, angiotensin type 1 receptor blockers andangiotensin type 2 receptor agonist drugs increase ACE2expression in renal proximal tubule cells and it is wellknown that hyponatremia may occur due to these drugs.5In a large-scale study with 1099 patients, 15% hadCase Report*Corresponding Author: Muhammed Yaşar Sever, Email: [email protected]© 2020 The Author(s).
