The aim of this work is to highlight the important developments shown in
recent years by the production and sharing of cartographic products in digital
and interactive format on the web. These "maps" - normally associated with
information technology such as data, images and careful descriptions -
contributes to compose the Mapmaking that, also with a view to participatory
cartography, can support local development policies
Within the issues related to sustainable and smart territories, a prominent role is played by a better exploitation of renewable
energies, green mobility and the efficient use of new technologies. There are, in fact, a different local and global policies,
that aimed at encouraging less energy expenditure and the use of «alternative» means and modes of transport. In this
context in which the debate on smart islands, a real territorial laboratories where innovative solutions for the optimal
management of resources are studied. This work, through some case studies referring to the Canary Islands, which stands
out in the island context for the growing adoption of virtuous behavior, aims to highlight the strategies and opportunities
arising from a different use of renewable sources for the local economy
Smart islands: a “new” dimension of geographical isolation of El Hierro (Canary Islands)
Sustainability in tourism is now a fundamental requirement to allow the destinations concerned to compete in a sector that is becoming increasingly complex every day. Many references to this theme can be found in institutional documents at different territorial levels: a constant and joint commitment to sustainable, environmental, and socio-economic development is called for, capable of converting territories into “intelligent” spaces in the long term. The approach to sustainable territorial governance requires that the real component (public and private bodies, citizens, tourists, etc.) and the virtual component (ICT - Information and Communication Technologies) are cohesive to create a smart system. The work aims to highlight how the evolution and introduction of new technologies services for tourists (and not only) has allowed the island of El Hierro, in the Canary Islands, to change its image of "isolated" territory in a sustainable connected and accessible tourist destination
Port authorities and smartness: the training policies of Spain's smart ports
Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, blockchain, automation, IoT, and 5G represent fundamental knowledge for
the evolution of the modern society. The smart label initially found breeding ground in urban settings
giving rise to Smart Cities which are capable of efficiently supplying resources and services through the use of technology. The “new” incentives coming from Information Communication Technology (ICT) have over time positively involved other spatial realities as well: Smart Villages, Smart Tourism Destinations, and Smart Ports. The latter spatial context is proposed in all its complexity as it includes various
stakeholders, internal and external, and requires constant operational commitment. In order to meet the sustainability goals dictated by international documents (Agenda 2030 and 2050), the operational chain of the port system must adopt an innovative approach capable of improving and optimizing the competitiveness and the active and functional activities of the operators involved. After a brief literature
review of the concept of smartness around the port world, this paper aims to highlight the fundamental role played by Spanish Port Authorities to propose training projects that can also educate and make human capital “smart”
Proprio in
The increase of cultural tourism and therefore the need of gaining knowledge on places,
recall the need of deepening the understanding of the relation between this kind of tourism, as an
experiential one, and leisure.
So within religious tourism the pilgrim as a tourist couples to travel his/her need for a search
of new sacre places. In Sardinia Region minor and rural churches are the product of a local popular
religious mood and it seems to be an interesting tourism attraction and at the same time a strategic
opportunity of socioeconomic development of rural areas with the local territory integrated
touristic production
Trasporti e innovazione per "ripensare" gli spazi. L'approccio smart della Regione Sardegna
In the
international context, the issue of sustainability is widely discussed and studied under different disciplinary approaches.
The 2030 Agenda, in addition to encouraging a transdisciplinary approach to analysis, points out that sustainable
transport is integrated into several goals, which can be pursued only if adapted to different geographical contexts. In
pursuing the principles of a cohesive and sustainable territorial development, the local authorities have worked, and
are working, to implement a more efficient spatial organization. Specifically, in response to the negative consequences
caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, several local policies are being implemented with more consciousness to create an
intelligent transport system to improve accessibility to places and the quality of life of residents and guests. The work
below, after a review of the literature on the paradigm of sustainable mobility, intends to analyze the main strategies
implemented by the Region of Sardinia to configure itself as a real smart destination
Cruise tourism is a way of taking leisure time in our society. It is an activity that has become
very popular since the eighties, accelerating its presence in Europe and, particularly,in the
Canary Islands since the following decade. Many of the studies on cruise tourism have
focused on the characteristics of the demand (including the profile of tourists, spending
power, the impacts that this activity causes, etc.). However, the literature on the residents’
perception about this tourism where this study focuses on, is rather scarce is rather scarce,
particularly in the space immediately to the Port of La Luz and Las Palmas
Green Infrastructure and Slow Tourism: A Methodological Approach for Mining Heritage Accessibility in the Sulcis-Iglesiente Bioregion (Sardinia, Italy)
In European countries many measures are carried out to improve the disadvantaged conditions and socio-economic marginality of rural areas in comparison with central places. These conditions also affect the quality of travel for visitors and tourists. Therefore, in response to a ‘new’ tourist demand, motivated also by the restrictions following the spread of the COVID-19 virus in recent years, the institutions and the different local actors are working more incisively to improve rural areas. The rural tourism services offer, combined with the Green Infrastructure (GI) project, at different scales—from local to regional—interesting territorial development strategies to achieve the Agenda 2030 objectives. This contribution considers the Sulcis-Iglesiente-Guspinese area, in the Sardinia Region (IT), as a case study. In this area, the landscape context is marked by past mining activity, and the project of a path of historical, cultural, and religious values has proven to be an activator of regenerative processes, in environmental, social, and economic terms. The present study proposes a methodological approach to develop an index (FI—feasibility index) to assess the feasibility of the Stop Places (SPs) project along a horse trail to integrate the current slow mobility of bicycles and pedestrians in the bioregion
