La ricezione di Peter Bartl in Serbia

    No full text
THE RECEPTION OF PETER BARTL’S WORK IN SERBIA. This paper analyses the reception of the work of Peter Bartl (1938-2022) in Serbia. The German historian first became well known for his studies on the Balkans in Serbian academia whenin 1976 the historian Jovan Litričanin published a review of Bartl’s study, Der Westbalkan zwischen spanischer Monarchie und osmanischem Reich. Zur Türkenkriegsproblematik an der Wende vom 16. zum 17. Jahrhundert (1974). The decidedly greater attention to Bartl’s work, however, came after the publication of the Serbian translation of Bartl‘s 1995 monograph, Albanien. Vom Mittelalter bis zum Gegenwart. The Serbian translation, entitled Albanci od srednjeg veka do danas was published in Belgrade by CLIO in 2001, while the second edition, by the same publisher, but with a slightly changed title, Albanci od srednjeg do kraja 20. veka was published in 2019. Here, the approach of historians Dušan T. Bataković and Ljubomir Petrović will be analysed in particular. While noting some shortcomings in Bartl’s approach, especially with regard to the part of history relating to the Serbs, they both agree that Bartl is a serious and perceptive scholar whose monograph represents a point of reference for learning about the historical events related not only to the Albanians, but also to the Serbs, and as such represents an opportunity to overcome the misunderstandings that exist between two neighbouring Balkan peoples

Angelika Bartl Angelika Bartl: The Reflexive Smile of the Other. Feminist Art Criticism, Documentary Video Art, and the Question of the PoliticalHaving itself become canonical in the past few decades, feminist art critique may run the risk of essentializing its own notion of feminist politics. The article shows how dealing with new documentary video art representing marginalized women (in this case the video essay “operculum” [1993] by Tran T. Kim-Trang) confronts us with a complexity of political discourses – feminist, postcolonial, anti-capitalist, etc. – that question our desire for essential meanings and assignments

Perceptions of Deficiencies in the Basic Conditions for Farm Management and Quality of Life in Coffee‐Growing Households: A Panel Analysis of a Rural Community in Eastern Uganda

    No full text
Abstract In the present study, information collected from 360 coffee‐cultivating households (HHs) is used to investigate perceptions of deficiencies in three sub‐counties in Eastern Uganda and to study changes in these perceptions between two survey rounds. The results of an explorative principal components analysis identify five factors affecting farmers’ perceptions. Whereas perceptions of deficiencies in the preconditions for farm management activities differ significantly between the three sub‐counties investigated, indicators of deficiencies in general life quality are distributed more equally. Deteriorations are explained mainly by perceived changes in weather conditions. On the one hand, it can be assumed that the high constraint level will continue to increase in the future due to climate change and its impacts on life quality and the basic conditions required for farm management. On the other hand, access to resources such as water taps but also increased competition between buyers, have improved the situation. Results further indicate that if activities such as the expansion of information access and improvement of road conditions (after land registration) are implemented on a larger scale, these negative trends can be partly counteracted to help farmers maintain the conditions for effective farm management and improve their quality of life in the future

    Zlata Bartl: Guidance towards Excellence

Prelistavajući stranice života i djela prof. Zlate Bartl? Je li to doista istinski rasadnik u kojemu će neka nova mladica dati novi život nekoj novoj Zlati?Does the statement stand that there are only a few people who within their lifetime gain the privilege that the very mention of their name, surname or even nickname triggers a flow of associations placing them at a level beyond reach? Can someone claim that these are people who during their lifetime, and often even after they have physically left life«s scene, still continue to enrich and inspire their followers? Aren«t they generally distinguished by their conduct which is solely to serve the well being of others without expecting any material reward? Isn«t that altruism in its basic meaning? Aren«t these the very people who are also significantly distinctive by other noble, God-given features, such as boldness, originality, innovativeness, creativity, responsibility, vision, inquisitional spirit, modesty, sensuality and sensibility? All this and accompanied with absolute and unconditional love towards man and human beings in general. Is a man already rich by possessing at least some of these qualities and is there anyone who has incorporated all of them? Are these very people the true demiurges who «lift the scale» of human values to heights worthy of admiration and the desire to follow? Do their lives and work turn into a mission endured in the lives and work of their followers? Does their entire life write a kind of testament where the unwritten liability for the continuation of their work is left as a pledge? Browsing through the pages of the life and work of Prof. Zlata Bartl imposes the question where to place her in this context? How many of the indicated qualities did she need to possess in order to create, together with her team, the worldwide famous »Vegeta« and soup products? How much of her life and work are embodied in the mission pledged with the Foundation Prof. Zlata Bartl? Is this really the genuine cultivation centre that will nurture a new life to some new Zlata

Scenography for Theatre project "Zlata Bartl": The women who discovered Vegeta

    No full text
This project arose as a reminder but also a desire to have characters such as Zlata Bartl in the repertoire of theatres, the woman who ennobled our people with selfless giving of all her ingenuity and imagination. Her creativity and dedication to work have resulted as an invention of our most famous blend of spices “Vegeta”, by which today, exactly 60 years later, Croatia and the city of Koprivnica are known worldwide. Based on this, this project celebrates, glorifies and tells the story of this never-forgotten, humble but ingenious Zlata Bartl. So this project presents the author’s dramatic text “Zlata Bartl: The woman who discovered Vegeta” and also stage and costume design of the eponymous dramatic text. The way the dramatic text is staged is step forward in puppet theatre, precisely because of the way actors are used as “live puppets” solely and exclusively to depict actions and events that, contrary to expectations, the narrator describes and video projections and animations further evoke with visual display

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
