Congresso Divisione Chimica Industriale Salerno, Settembre 2015 Selective and Efficient Reduction of Nitrobenzene to Aniline catalyzed by AuNPs Embedded in a Nanoporous Crystalline Polymeric Support Annarita Noschese1*, Antonio Buonerba1, Carmine Capacchione1, Stefano Milione1, Alfonso Grassi1 1 - Dipartimento di Chimica e Biologia, Università degli Studi di Salerno, Via Giovanni Paolo II - 84084 Fisciano (SA), Italy, and CIRCC-Bari, Italy Abstract Supported Gold Nanoparticles (AuNPs) efficiently catalyze both oxidation and reduction reactions. E.g. aerobic oxidation of alcohols and cross coupling reactions of alcohols leading to esters, amide, imine have been widely and successfully explored [1]. On the other side the reduction of nitroarenes to anilines using NaBH4, H2, silanes, formic acid, CO/H2O is a benchmark reaction for testing their catalytic performances in reduction reactions [2]. During reaserch efforts many supports have been exploited (carbon based supports, polymers, inorganic oxides) but their role is still under discussion. A semicrystalline porous polymeric support, consisting of syndiotactic polystyrene-co-cis-1,4-polybutadiene [3] has been successfully tested in our group and the AuNPS embedded in this polymer matrix (AuNPs-sPSB) were investigated in the reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline. The polymorphic behaviour of the host polymer matrix has been studied to optimize the catalyst performances. The nanoporous crystalline forms of the sPSB matrix, namely and , allowed a total conversion of nitrobenzene in 40 min at room temperature, with 100% selectivity in aniline. On the contrary the not permeable crystalline form gave a less reactive and selective catalyst; actually azobenzene and azoxybenzene were detected as intermediates compounds providing information on the cascade of the reduction reactions and the global reaction mechanism. Among the catalysts to date reported in the literature, the AuNPs-sPSB catalyst showed the highest activity (TOF=6000 h-1). The catalyst is very stable under the reaction conditions and reusable for at least three times without loss of catalytic activity. Black English and the New Cosmopolitanism: Karima 2G’s Linguistic Creativity as a Transethnic Performative Practice

    No full text
The article focuses on the powers of cultural expression in her chapter “Black English and the New Cosmopolitanism: Karima 2G’s Linguistic Creativity as a Transethnic Performative Practice.” The author takes as her primary text the linguistic per- formance of Anna Maria Gehnyei (“Karima 2G”), a second-generation Liberian immi- grant to Italy, whose “new cosmopolitan” rap performance and narration indexes the “linguistic and cultural history of the color line in Italy.” Karima 2G’s rap refracts a Pidgin English to both represent and complicate the racialized marginalization of black diasporic “geo-localities and linguistic identities” in Italy, and more generally to resist essentialisms of identity that reify categories of “race” and ethnicity. Anti- immigrant sentiment in Italy is as much her subject as her own Liberian background, which becomes the source of yet another expression of the postcolonialist “rooted cosmopolitanism” that is a connecting thread among many chapters in this volume. In her “ethno-socio-linguistic analysis,” the author explores, in a pluriversalist idiom, the transnational linkages cutting across national cultural musics and “plurilithic Englishes” across the African and European contexts, not to mention an at least imag- ined routing to the United States experience of slavery and its aftermath

TEMI E FORME DELLA CONSOLATIO NELLA PRODUZIONE VOLGARE DI BOCCACCIO

This dissertation offers an in-depth analysis of the consolatory function of literature in the works of Giovanni Boccaccio, with particular focus on the Decameron and his vernacular writings. It begins by acknowledging, as already evident in the Genealogiae deorum gentilium, Boccaccio’s belief in the power of storytelling to soothe afflicted souls—a concept that permeates his entire corpus, especially within paratextual elements (such as prologues and epilogues), where the author often outlines the purpose and intended audience of his works in an exegetical tone. Unlike most 20th-century scholarship, which emphasized general protreptic themes or focused solely on the ethical-philosophical aspect of consolatio, this study systematically explores for the first time the rhetoric of the logos paramythikos in Boccaccio’s work—namely, the structures and mechanisms of classical consolatory discourse, creatively reinterpreted by the author. The research identifies a unique rhetorical system, blending elements of consolatio de exilio, consolatio de morte, and an innovative form of consolatio amoris, previously unformalized in Latin literature. In Boccaccio’s oeuvre, romantic suffering becomes a legitimate subject for philosophical and rhetorical reflection on pain. This development is indirectly inspired by models such as Cicero (especially the Tusculanae Disputationes) and Ovid (Remedia amoris), from whom Boccaccio borrows exempla and rhetorical strategies, often recontextualizing them. The study shows how Boccaccio adapts Stoic and rhetorical tools to a new subject—love—acknowledged not merely as a disruptive perturbatio, but as a true existential pathos. Through a detailed topoi-based analysis, the dissertation reconstructs the recurring features of Boccaccio’s consolatory discourse, including nec primus nec solus, the mutability of fortune, companionship in grief, and the exemplary function of storytelling. These motifs appear both in paratexts (notably the prologues of the Filocolo and Decameron) and within narrative sections, where they form genuine sermones consolatorii. The Decameron is examined in detail, particularly its prologue, interpreted as a dual consolatory discourse: addressed both to a sorrowful auctor consoled by friends in the past, and to an audience of lovesick women, the intended recipients of the emotional relief provided by the tales. The consolatory power of the Decameron lies not only in its blend of utile et dilettevole, but also in its meta-literary function, where storytelling serves as an alternative to philosophical argumentation, easing pain through narrative immersion. The dissertation also considers cases where consolatio fails, such as the Comedia delle Ninfe Fiorentine and Elegia di madonna Fiammetta, in which literature intensifies rather than mitigates emotional distress. These texts enact a palinode of the consolatory paradigm, challenging the very notion of literature’s therapeutic value. In conclusion, the dissertation proposes a reinterpretation of consolation in Boccaccio as an autonomous rhetorical mode, one that transcends traditional genre boundaries. It offers a new lens through which to view the relationship between literature and pain, between exemplum and personal experience, and between classical tradition and humanistic innovation

La riscoperta dell'antico e del dorico. Sulle tracce degli architetti-viaggiatori a Paestum tra Sette e Ottocento

    No full text
After years of neglect and oblivion, from the mid-Eighteenth century, Paestum became one of the obligatory landmarks on the Grand Tour. Travelers of different backgrounds and origins they forward in the Southern Italy to visit the temples, symbolic testimony of Greek civilization and of the archaic Doric style. The majesty of the ruins of Paestum, that resurface from the thickly wooded and impassable marshes of the Sele, stimulates a true revival of the ancient myth. The consolidated idea on the aesthetic laws of classical architecture must now be confronted with the reality of the strict colonnades of Paestum. The columns without basis, the proportions, the primordial forms, bring into crisis the historical patterns borrowed from the Roman tradition to which reference was made until then and it triggers an alight cultural debate between the Ancients and Moderns. The discovery and the desire of archeology attract many learned men that documenting their visit to Paestum with their travel journals but also through depictions. Within the great philosophical and artistic ferment of the eighteenth century and of a large part of the nineteenth century, in fact, it triggers a vigorous fad of the representation that includes a very diverse production: by the iconographic compendiums (Joli, Morghen, Piranesi) to sketches drawn with the most rapid lines (Soane); by the representations of a general nature, often based upon reference models – such as the famous bird’s-eye view of the pestan plain, resumed, among others, by Giraud and Soane – to depiction from the inside of the temple of Neptune with the endearing features of the double order - inaugurated by Clérisseau and Piranesi, then shooting from von Klenze in Duban, up to Viollet-le-Duc. Doesn’t lack the representations generated by a more scientific approach and understood as tools for dissemination and knowledge. Just think of the refunds realistic and detailed of Delagardette, author of dimensional drawings, result of an unprecedented methodological rigor; or the reconstructive hypotheses resulting from the critical-interpretative analysis proposed by the French Labrouste and Thomas. The abundance of drawings come down to us demonstrates the attention bestowed to the pestan ruins, while the variety of the techniques of representation testifies to the different cultural training of their creators, in addition to the different objectives of the visits. The proposed study, while not neglecting the protagonists of this rediscovery already the subject of many studies, want to turn the spotlight on lesser-known characters, focusing on architects-travelers who visited the pestan ruins between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The analysis of an odeporic production more unknown, but no less significant, is also the starting point for a reflection on the personality of the individual authors, on the specificity of the approach and on the possible effects on their subsequent project activities
