Hainanmezira n. sp. 2 (Photo 6, 9). A single female labelled: China, Hainan, Jianfeng / Nanya 644m / 2007 VIII 22 Bai XS / Ent.Mus. CAU, Beijing (CAU) shows some differences to latiscutellata n. sp.: smaller size, more egg-shaped abdomen, long diverging genae, much shorter scutellum, and larger wing pads; and the large flat apodemal depressions on tergal plate are more rounded and smooth. These differences may indicate that this specimen belongs to a second species but because of the unknown variability we refrain from describing it formally. Its taxonomic status will be clarified when more material is available. Measurements. Length 5.9 mm; head length / width 24 / 23; pronotum l/w 15 / 32; mesonotum l/w 11 / 38; length of antennae / width of head 1.63, length of antennal segments I/II/III/IV = 10.5 / 6.5 / 11.5 / 9, width of abdomen 3.0 mm.Published as part of Bai, Xiaoshuan, Heiss, Ernst & Cai, Wanzhi, 2011, New taxa and records of flat bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Aradidae) from Hainan of China, pp. 48-58 in Zootaxa 3012 on page 56, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.27858

Memorie ai margini di un conflitto: il generale Bai Chongxi 白崇禧 (1893-1966) a Taiwan

    No full text

The influence of tourism on the sustaining of vernacular architechtural tradition embodied in the Bai and Naxi dwellings in Yunnan, China.

Yunnan is an economically underdeveloped region in south-western China, in which many ethnic settlements are preserved well. Within the last two decades, many ethnic communities at a grass-roots social level have been conducting a series of tourism-related developments of Bai and Naxi dwellings in Yunnan. They are altering, restoring, rebuilding, refurbishing and renewing ordinary Bai or Naxi dwellings into multi-function dwellings, which are not only the residential homes of families, but are also capable of providing an exotic cultural experience for tourists‘ consumption. Nevertheless, Bai and Naxi dwellings are representations of a living culture, embodying a complex set of vernacular architectural traditions which have been transmitted for many generations. When the Bai and Naxi dwellings are involved in tourism development, the transmission and adaptation of these vernacular architectural traditions are changed, and the manner in which such traditions aresustained in new circumstances becomes an interesting problem. This study explores the influence of tourism development on sustaining the vernacular architectural tradition embodied in Bai and Naxi dwellings in Yunnan, China. The researcher has conducted three rounds of fieldwork, choosing 30 Bai and Naxi dwellings involved in tourism development, from four ethnic minority settlements in Yunnan, for investigation. Observation, interview and questionnaire have been applied to collect data, and template analysis has been used to analyse the data. The results of the analysis show that if tourism development is conducted mainly at a community level, itcan enhance the sustaining of the vernacular architectural tradition embodied in Bai and Naxi dwellings. In summary, the sustaining of vernacular architectural tradition is not simply influenced by the nature of tourism, but is highly dependent on the social level of the developers, the construction pattern they choose, and the socio-cultural interaction they produce

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Degradation processes of voids in solid dielectrics under AC applied fields

    No full text
This Thesis is concerned with an experimental study into the degradation processes that occur when voids in solid dielectric materials experience high applied electric fields. A method has been developed for manufacturing 2 mm thick samples of silicone rubber that contain a single gas void of around 1mm diameter. Samples are simultaneously electrically stressed under an applied ac sinusoidal voltage of 11-12kV for 6 hours that is then increased to 12-17kV. During the stressing period, partial discharge (PD) data is regularly acquired. The samples are then inspected for signs of degradation. Degraded samples that have not suffered catastrophic failure and contain pits or evidence of damage were then cut open using an RMC MT-7 ultra- microtome equipped with a C R-21 cryo-system set at -110ºC in order to provide a surface containing open segments that can be assessed using spectroscopic techniques. The experiment is repeatable and the obtained degraded samples and the degradation areas of microtomed samples have been analysed using Raman spectroscopy to identify the chemical content of the degraded areas and obtained improved images using a scanning electron microscope (S EM) at the void /silicone rubber interface. In addition, the obtained PD patterns have been used to make a comparison between measurement and simulation results obtained using a physical model implemented in Matlab
