Phys. 18, 532(1992).Author Institution: A. P. loffe Physico---Technical Institute, St. PetersburgThe original experimental technique and setup have been developed which makes it possible to detect and study by ESR1,2ESR^{1,2} local unstable excited states in noble-gas cryocrystals. Very recently, we have discovered by ESR a new effect - formation in Ne cryocrystals of local excited states as a result of a He gas discharge product trapping in the growing Ne crystal. It is important that no excited states appeared in Ar and Kr cryocrystals under the action of the He gas discharge. It may be supposed that the effect observed in Ne is the result of the quasi-resonance transfer of excitation energy from the metastable 23S12^{3}S_{1} He atoms trapped from the gas discharge in Ne cryocrystal to the X-exciton band of the Ne crystal followed by the self-trapping of the exciton, its decay, and formation of the localized in fee Ne crystal 3Pz^{3}Pz Ne atom observed in the experiment. 3P2^{3}P_{2} neon atom, having a large radius, causes its surroundings to shift outwards and the Ne crystal lattice to rearrange itself in the vicinity of this atom. We have recorded a temperature dependence of the 3Pz^{3}P_{z} state formation probability in Ne crystal and obtained the activation energy for the metastable 23S12^{3}S_{1} He atom to transfer its excitation energy to the Ne crystal X-exciton band. This energy is about 0.001 eV

INTERACTION OF TRAPPED H(D) ATOMS WITH Xe MATRIX INFLUENCED BY ZERO-POINT VIBRATIONS OF THE LIGHT ATOMS

    1. Yu. A. Dmitriev. J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 5, 5245(1993).Author Institution: A.F. Ioffe Physico-Technical InstituteHydrogen and deuterium atoms are stabilized in xenon matrix from the gas phase and investigated by ESR1ESR^{1}. It is shown that being deposited from the gas discharge in a mixture of H2H_{2} and Da with xenon, H and D atoms are trapped in the substitutional position of the matrix crystal lattice. ESR linewidths of H and D show an isotope effect, that is (ΔH)H/(ΔH)D=1.10(4)(\Delta H)^{H}/(\Delta H)^{D} = 1.10(4), where (ΔH)H(\Delta H)^{H} and (ΔH)D(\Delta H)^{D} are the peak-to-peak linewidths for H and D atoms, respectively. The shape of the ESR lines observed is close to Gaussian. The linewidths are found to be greatly increased by the zero-point vibrations of the atoms, the dynamical broadening being nearly equal to the static one. We show that substitutional H and D atoms trapped in solid xenon perform measurably anharmonic vibrations, and the spherically symmetric potential well which is to model the actual one for the substitutional hydrogen atom has a rather flat bottom. The coefficient ν(r)=γexp(ηr)\nu (r) = \gamma exp (-\eta r) (where γ\gamma and η\eta are constants) of the transfer of the electronic charge from Xe atom to H atom in Xe-H ``molecule” is estimated using the experimental data, r being the interatomic distance, γ=25.71,η1.25\gamma = 25.71, \eta - 1.25, in atomic units. A comparison is carried out between experimental and theoretical values for the relative matrix shirt of the trapped H atom hyperfine (hr) structure constant, and it is found that experimental and theoretical quantities are in satisfactory agreement: (ΔA/Af)exp.=1.05(\Delta A /Af)exp. = -1.05% , (\Delta A / Af)theof. == -0.98% where Δ=A\Delta = A - Ar, and Ar is the hf constant of the free atom

The ideal of female beauty in Ode to the Beauty by F.I. Dmitriev-Mamonov The article discusses the ideal of female beauty presented in Ode to the Beauty by F.I. Dmitriev-Mamonov. The object of the panegiric praise is a beautiful woman, which had not been the case earlier. The addressee of the ode is praised for the qualities of her body which is described in detail. Preserving the convention typical of the panegiric ode, the author creates the image of his addressee, while employing mythologisms, sacralization and idealisation. The description also clearly indicates the influences of the physiognomical theory of J.K. Lavater and of tendencies dominating in the Russian painting in the second part of the 18th century.  The ideal of female beauty in Ode to the Beauty by F.I. The volume presents Renate Jacobi’s studies on the historian ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sakhāwī (d. 902/1497) and his biographical dictionary al-Ḍawʾ al-lāmiʿ li-ahl al-qarn al-tāsiʿ with the special focus on the biographies of women. Al-Sakhāwī’s dictionary is exceptional in the history of classical Arabic biographical literature. Its twelfth and final volume featuring 1075 numbered biographical entries is devoted exclusively to women many of whom were known by the author in person. Renate Jacobi examines the life of al-Sakhāwī and analyzes his dictionary as a unique source for studying the social role of women in the Mamlūk period, their chances of taking up public space, and making a career of their own. The texts of the chapters in this volume have been adopted from previous publications by Renate Jacobi in different journals and edited volumes with some editorial modifications, additions and bibliographical updates. Two studies, “The Scholar and the Poetess: A Friendship of the Heart in Mamlūk Egypt” and “Women in the Endowment System of the Mamlūk Period,” are being published in English for the first time. The volume is a window onto the intriguing, fascinating, and very informative world of classical Arabic biographical literature

Ignaty Julianovič Kračkovsky (1883–1951) is among the most important and influential Russian scholars in the field of Arabic and Islamic studies in the first half of the 20th century. With his translation projects and educational initiatives, he bridged the Arabic and Russian cultures, and with his innovative and inspiring research, he achieved a lasting impact and international recognition. This book is the first attempt at a detailed biography of this remarkable man, and its author, Anna A. Dolinina (1923–2017), is one of Kračkovsky’s last pupils. It is exclusively based on documents and archival materials, including diaries, letters, reminiscences by relatives and friends, and official documents, all largely presented here for the first time to a larger public.
