Tarantino the Cartoonist
No full textIn cinema it is not uncommon to see the interrelation of animation and live action but, despite this, the ascription of characteristics of one medium onto the other has been largely one-dimensional: live action upon animation. The films of Quentin Tarantino, however, illustrate an attribution of a cartoon-like aesthetic in live-action sequences, which the author subsequently terms `cartoonism'. `Cartoonism' and its development have been highlighted in Tarantino's work, showing his continual desire to realize this aesthetic in his own work whilst, ironically, only fully achieving this aesthetic in another's film. The conclusions are illuminating with respect to Tarantino's filmic politics and provide a potential mode of inquiry within film theory

B-meson mixing and lifetimes
No full textB-d and B-s meson systems play a fundamental role to test and improve our understanding of Standard Model flavor dynamics. The mixing parameters Delta m(d,s) represent important constraints in the unitarity triangle analysis. Their theoretical estimates require non-perturbative calculations of B-meson decay constants and B-parameters; accurate results, recently obtained from the lattice, axe reviewed. Other phenomenologicay interesting quantities are the beauty hadron lifetime ratios and, the width differences and CP-violation parameters in Bd and B, systems. We discuss their theoretical predictions which, in the last four years, have been improved thanks to accurate lattice calculations and next-to-leading order perturbative computations

No full textThe present status of the theoretical estimates of beauty hadron lifetime ratios and of width differences and CP-violation parameters in B(d) and Bs systems is reviewed. In the last two years accurate lattice calculations and next-to-leading order perturbative computations have improved these theoretical predictions, leading to the following updated results: tau(B(+))/tau(B(d)) = 1.06 +/- 0.02, tau(B(s))/tau(B(d)) = 1.00 +/- 0.01, tau(Lambda(b))/tau(B(d)) = 0.88 +/- 0.05, Delta Gamma(d)/Gamma(d) = (2.42 +/- 0.59)10(-3), Delta Gamma(s)/Gamma(s) = (7.4 +/- 2.4)10(-2), vertical bar(q/p)d vertical bar - 1 = (2.96 +/- 0.67)10(-4) and vertical bar(q/p)(s)vertical bar - 1 = -(1.28 +/- 0.28)10(-5)
