Measurements of RbR_{b} and RcR_{c} at LEP

    No full text
The measurements of R/sub b/ and R/sub c/, the fraction of hadronic Z boson decays into bb and cc final states, provide a tight test on the Standard Model. The LEP experiments achieved a precision on the R/sub b/ measurements at the $9 0.4 3.959305e-309vel and an accuracy on R/sub c/ at the 3-7.748597e-304vel. The analysis techniques are reviewed and the current results are presented. (33 refs)

Monitoraggio topografico e fotogrammetrico della cupola del teatro Massimo

    No full text

Rotationally invariant slave bosons for strongly correlated superconductors

    No full text
We extend the rotationally invariant formulation of the slave-boson method to superconducting states. This generalization, building on the recent work by Lechermann et al. [Phys. Rev. B 76, 155102 (2007)], allows to study superconductivity in strongly correlated systems. We apply the formalism to a specific case of strongly correlated superconductivity, as that found in a multiorbital Hubbard model for alkali-doped fullerides, where the superconducting pairing has phonic origin, yet it has been shown to be favored by strong correlation owing to the symmetry of the interaction. The method allows to treat on the same footing the strong correlation effects and the interorbital interactions driving superconductivity, and to capture the physics of strongly correlated superconductivity, in which the proximity to a Mott transition favors the superconducting phenomenon. Rheediinosides A and B, two antiproliferative and antioxidant triterpene saponins from Entada rheedii

    No full text
Two triterpenoid saponins have been isolated from the seed kernels of Entada rheedii. Their structures have been established using 1D- and 2D-NMR and mass spectrometry as 3-O-b-D-xylopyranosyl- (1 -3)-O-a-L-arabinopyranosyl-(1 -6)-2-acetylamino-2-deoxy-b-D-glucopyranosylentagenic acid 28- O-b-apiofuranosyl-(1-3)-b-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 -2)-b-D-glucopyranoside (Rheediinoside A, 1) and 3-O-b-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 -3)-O-[b-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-3)-a-L-arabinopyranosyl-(1 -6)]-2-acetylamino- 2-deoxy-b-D-glucopyranosylentagenic acid 28-O-b-apiofuranosyl-(1-3)-b-D-xylopyranosyl- (1-2)-b-D-glucopyranoside (Rheediinoside B, 2). Compounds 1 and 2 were tested for their antiproliferative activity against T98G, A431, PC3 and B16-F1 cell lines, and further for their antioxidant properties. Moderate cytotoxic potency and antioxidant properties were found for these compounds whereas Rheediinoside B was in all assays more active than Rheediinoside A

This paper recalls the rich personal and intellectual relationship between Massimo Pavarini and Iñaki Rivera Beiras. Interplay of strong correlation and Jahn-Teller effect in orbitally degenerate systems

    No full text
We study the unconventional insulating state in A(4)C(60) by means of the dynamical mean-held theory. The interplay between the electron-electron correlation and the Jahn-Teller interaction determines the properties of these compounds. The system is a Mott-Jahn-Teller insulator. In that state, conduction between molecules is blocked by on-site Coulomb repulsion, magnetism is suppressed by intra-molecular Jahn-Teller effect, and important excitations (such as optical and spin gap) are found to be essentially intra-molecular. Experimental values of the optical and spin gaps are recovered by our calculations. RI Capone, Massimo/A-7762-200

Going Forward from B to A? Proposals for the Eurozone Crisis

    No full text
After reviewing the main determinants of the current Eurozone crisis, this paper discusses the feasibility of introducing fiscal currencies as a way to restore fiscal space in peripheral countries, such as Greece, which have so far adopted austerity measures in order to abide by their commitments with Eurozone institutions and the IMF. We show that the introduction of fiscal currencies would speed up the recovery, without violating the rules of Eurozone Treaties. At the same time, these processes could help the transition of the euro from its current status of single currency to a status of “common clearing currency” along the lines proposed by Keynes at Bretton Woods as a system of international settlements. Eurozone countries could therefore move from “Plan B” aimed at addressing member state domestic problems, to a “Plan A” of a better European monetary system

Competition between d-wave superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in the two-dimensional Hubbard model

    No full text
We study the competition of antiferromagnetism and d-wave superconductivity at zero temperature in the two-dimensional Hubbard model using cellular dynamical mean-field theory for a 2x2 plaquette, and solve the associated cluster impurity model at zero temperature by means of exact diagonalization. The interplay between the two phases depends strongly on the strength of the correlation. At strong coupling (U greater than or similar to 8t) the two phases do not mix, and a first-order transition takes place as a function of doping between two pure phases. At weak coupling (U less than or similar to 8t) the two order parameters coexist within the same solution in a range of doping and the system smoothly evolves from the antiferromagnet to the superconductor. When the transition between the superconducting and the antiferromagetic phases is of the first-order, it is accompanied by a phase separation. RI Capone, Massimo/A-7762-200
