    Weighted don't cares

    No full text
In this paper we introduce and discuss the new concept of weighted don’t cares, i.e., we propose to enrich the notion of don’t cares, by assigning them a weight. These weights might be used to guide and refine the choices operated by the minimization algorithms in handling the don’t care conditions. We then propose, and experimentally validate, the first synthesis tool for functions with weighted don’t cares, called wBOOM. Experimental results show that wBOOM covers, on average, 66% more weighted don’t cares than the classical synthesis tool BOOM

    Atomic scale interfacial magnetism and origin of metal-insulator transition in (LaNiO 3_3 3 ) n_n n /(CaMnO 3_3 3 ) m_m m superlattices: a first principles study

Abstract Interfacial magnetism and metal-insulator transition at LaNiO 3_3 3 -based oxide interfaces have triggered intense research efforts, because of the possible implications in future heterostructure device design and engineering. Experimental observation lack in some points a support from an atomistic view. In an effort to fill such gap, we hereby investigate the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of (LaNiO 3_3 3 ) n_n n /(CaMnO 3_3 3 ) m_m m superlattices with varying LaNiO 3_3 3 thickness (n) using density functional theory including a Hubbard-type effective on-site Coulomb term. We successfully capture and explain the metal-insulator transition and interfacial magnetic properties, such as magnetic alignments and induced Ni magnetic moments which were recently observed experimentally in nickelate-based heterostructures. In the superlattices modeled in our study, an insulating state is found for n=1 and a metallic character for n=2, 4, with major contribution from Ni and Mn 3d states. The insulating character originates from the disorder effect induced by sudden environment change for the octahedra at the interface, and associated to localized electronic states; on the other hand, for larger n, less localized interfacial states and increased polarity of the LaNiO 3_3 3 layers contribute to metallicity. We discuss how the interplay between double and super-exchange interaction via complex structural and charge redistributions results in interfacial magnetism. While (LaNiO 3_3 3 ) n_n n /(CaMnO 3_3 3 ) m_m m superlattices are chosen as prototype and for their experimental feasibility, our approach is generally applicable to understand the intricate roles of interfacial states and exchange mechanism between magnetic ions towards the overall response of a magnetic interface or superlattice

The aim of the present paper is to summarized the data on biological rhythms in living organisms including man and summarise data on circadian, circaseptan and other rhythms in geophysical variables. The synchronisation of both geophysical and biological activities and their oscillations are discussed

Computed lifetimes of metastable states of the NO++ dication

    No full text
Based on the ab initio potential energy, spin-orbit coupling, electronic transition dipole moment, and radial nonadiabatic coupling functions, the energy level positions, lifetimes, and radiative transition probabilities (Einstein A coefficients) have been determined for the lowest electronic states of NO2+ using the log-amplitude-phase, stabilization, and complex-scaling methods. The calculated characteristics are in reasonable agreement to the available experimental data, thus, evidencing the reliability of the theoretical predictions for the characteristics unobserved to date. With the exception of the v2 vibrational states of the B 2+ electronic state, the calculated radiative lifetimes of the excited electronic states are longer than their predissociation lifetimes, hence, accounting for the failure of the attempts which have been made so far to observe any emission from the latter states

    C. Mendel's Legacy

This paper reviews the development of chronobiology, the science (logos) of life (bios) in time (chronos), and of chronomics, against the background of Mendel's contributions far beyond genetics. In keeping with Mendel the meteorologist, we document for rhythms that light and food are not the only external switches. The "master switch", light, can be overridden more often and more critically than we visualize by feeding (3) or by a magnetic storm (4). Very important hypothalamic "oscillators" (5) are not the only internal mechanism of rhythms. Time structures, chronomes, reside in every biological unit, pro- or eukaryote, Figure 2 (6; cf. 5, 7). Chronomes in us have a strong genetic component which, in turn, entered the genome in response to environmental chronomes, explored meteorologically by Mendel. The more remote environmental origin of rhythms and their less remote genetic aspect both qualify biological chronomes as the legacy of Mendel the meteorologist as well as the geneticist. Our continued resonance with the environment renders an exophased endocycling even more interesting. The need for coordinated physical and biological monitoring, the topic of a project on The BIOsphere and the COSmos, briefly BIOCOS, to complement genomics, can also be viewed as the legacy of Mendel the meteorologist/cartographer. Some of Mendel's meteorological data were meta-chrono-analyzed. Mendel himself published more often on meteorology than on what became genetics. His legacies of paraphernalia are those of a meteorologist. Despite failing his examination for certification as a regular teacher in 1850 -- his lowest marks were in biology and geology (!) -- and although he reportedly never passed his teacher's license examination, Mendel started the science that distinguished the rules of dominant vs. recessive behavior and eventually led to the cloning of organisms and the debate about stem cells, again raising the question "What is life?" (1, 8, 9). Mendel is the de facto teacher par excellence of this generation of genomics, proteomics and nanochemistry by virtue of what became not only genetics but also chronomics in Brno. Our advocacy of education in instrumented self-help for chronobiologic literacy includes genetics and ecology, and qualifies as Mendelian. Chronobiologic literacy in everyday health care serves for the quantification of normalcy. By resolving chronomes in the normal range, we act positively rather than defining health negatively and only qualitatively (as the absence of disease, i.e., of deviations outside that range) summarized as % morbidity and % mortality only for a population, not for the individual. From these several viewpoints that have as a common denominator focus upon the usual, we view Johann Gregor Mendel as a chronobiologist. We view chronobiology in a broad perspective of its now thoroughly documented roots in our genes and via our genome in the cosmoi, as they were when and where life began and as they changed from then to now. Evolution, ecology, genetics and chemistry, the legacies of Darwin, Haeckel, Mendel and Lavoisier respectively, and their transdisciplinary fusion by Brückner, Egeson, Norman Lockyer, W.J.S. Lockyer, Chizhevsky and Vernadsky in the spirit of Dokuchaev, like everything else, occur in time. They are part and parcel of chronobiology and of a much broader temporal perspective from chronomics, an overdue transdisciplinary cartography of the as-yet unknown

Optimizing Bias Point Of High Efficiency Class-B Gan Power Amplifier For The Best Efficiency

    No full text
High performance amplifiers are always a demanding component in the world of wireless communication. The amplifier is the heart that drives each radio system. We have designed and developed a high performance one-stage class-B GaN power amplifier for drone applications in the S-band (at 1,6 GHz) with maximum output power 6 W. This paper compare fixed settings of the bias point option and optimized bias point for the best efficiency within the entire output power range. Applying the proposed method, that is particularly advantageous for low power performance to improve efficiency by more than 15 %

Exploiting PUF Variation to Detect Fault Injection Attacks

    No full text
The massive deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) devices makes them vulnerable against physical tampering attacks, such as fault injection. These kind of hardware attacks are very popular as they typically do not require complex equipment or high expertise. Hence, it is important that IoT devices are protected against them. In this work, we present a novel fault injection attack detector with high flexibility and low overhead. Our solution is based on the reuse of a security primitive used in many IoT devices, i.e., ring oscillator (RO) physically unclonable function (PUF). Our results show that we obtain a high detection effectiveness and no false alarms against most popular fault injection attacks based on voltage and clock manipulations.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Computer EngineeringQuantum & Computer Engineerin
