Metodą kolorymetryczną wg Hardy-Smitha, uwzględniającą etap oczyszczania wyciągu z konserwy na kolumnie jonowymiennej, oznaczono zawartość histaminy w 79 próbkach konserw rybnych. W 18% zbadanych próbek konserw (sardynki jugosłowiańskie) zawartość histaminy przekraczała 20 mg/100 g produktu

Epigenetics and imprinting of the trophoblast - A workshop report

    No full text
Genomic imprinting is a remarkable process that causes genes to be expressed or repressed depending on their parental-origin. Imprinted genes play important roles in prenatal growth and organ development. Postnatally, imprinted genes can contribute to the regulation of metabolic pathways and behaviour associated with the control of resources. One of the most important sites of imprinted gene action is the placenta. During this workshop at the 11th meeting of the International Federation of Placenta Associations/European Placenta Group held in Glasgow, a series of short talks were presented providing an overview of the evolution, function and mechanisms of imprinting in mammals with particular reference to the placenta. In addition, epigenetic control of trophoblast development and function were considered. This report summarises the contributions to the workshop.A.C. Ferguson-Smitha, T. Mooreb, J. Detmarc, A. Evaluation of fungal entomopathogens, viz., Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae and Lecanicillium lecanii against tea mosquito bug (Helopeltis antonii Signoret), an insect pest of cashew revealed that these fungi are pathogenic to H. antonii. Mortality of H. antonii commenced after three days of inoculation, increased gradually with time and became evident at fifth day with 82.5 per cent, 85 per cent and 65 per cent respectively with B. bassiana, M. anisopliae and L. lecanii @109 spores mL-1. B. bassiana and M. anisopliae shown complete mortality at sixth day, whereas mortality rate with L. lecanii was 85 per cent. A field experiment was conducted in randomized block design for two consecutive years with these three entomopathogenic fungi @108 spores mL-1. Two rounds of spray were given by targeting flowering and nut set stage in the first year, instead of the routine three spray schedule on flushing, flowering and nut set; while routine three sprays were given in the second year. In the first year of field evaluation, least damage was observed in Kerala Agricultural University package of practices (KAU POP) with quinalphos, targeting both flowering and nut set stage. However, both B. bassiana and L. lecanii also recorded less tea mosquito bug damage and were comparable with KAU POP. In the second year, B. bassiana was on par with KAU POP and L. lecanii was superior to control. Highest nut yield was recorded in trees treated with B. bassiana followed by KAU POP

Lost in Freedom: An Autoethnographic Study on the Migration of an Indian Bride

    No full text
Every year, thousands of newly-wed Indian women migrate to the United States on H-4 VISA (H1-B dependent with no work status). They come here carrying clothes, curry powder and a dream of an American lifestyle. As one of them, I know how migration brings a drastic change to the lives of these women, as many move from being successful professionals to housewives. In this thesis, I explore how I negotiate the multiple meanings of immigration as a result of demotion in status, from independent professional to dependent wife. Examining processes of intercultural communication, acculturation, deculturation, adaptation and identity transformation, I will self-reflexively explore through an auto-ethnographic analysis the strategies I developed to adapt to my new status. Drawing from post-colonial feminism developed by Chandra Talpade Mohanty (2003) specified in Feminism without Borders, viewed through the lens of Leon Festinger's Cognitive Dissonance Theory. I will analyze instances of how dissonance occurs when I am met by unexpected consequences of migration, a dichotomy of disconfirmed expectations, social rejection, and how these migratory experiences affect my interactions with my spouse, family and friends.Committee members: Lena Chao, Bryant K Alexander, D.
