Design and fabrication of small scale automatic chicken hatching machine
Access is limited to UniMAP community.This project is about designing a fully automatic small scale chicken hatching machine. The
increase in global population has caused the traditional incubation method unable to afford
the demand of food required. Thus, the incubator is one of the ways that overcome the
problem stated. However, commercial incubator nowadays is expensive for fully automated
incubator and inconvenient for the semi-automatic and manually incubator. The designs of
incubation chamber and egg turning, temperature and humidity mechanism are the main
elements of this project. The air flow and temperature distribution inside the incubation
chamber will be analyzed by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. In
addition, the program code for temperature, humidity and egg turning mechanism is written
and downloaded into Arduino platform. The prototype machine will be fabricated based on
the final design of incubation chamber and the control mechanism of egg turning,
temperature and humidity. Further analysis of temperature and humidity deviation will be
carried out to make sure the functionality of the incubator. By implementing the design, the
final product will be fully automatic incubator using embedded system control with
uniform temperature distributed inside the incubation chamber. Besides that, the incubator
is designed to be cost effective and capable to reduce the burden of small and mediumsized
enterprises
Dynamic modelling and adaptive PID control of palm oil biodiesel engine
The use of biodiesel seems set to become a popular alternative fuel for
transportation to replace the high price petroleum fuel. To successfully implement the
usage of biodiesel in transportation requires good understanding of the engine dynamics and reliable controller to manage the engine. Hence, this study is aimed at the development of mathematical models and adaptive controller of automotive engine
fuelled with palm oil methyl esters (palm oil biodiesel). The process modelling
investigation started with linear discrete-time single-input-single-output (SISO)
dynamic mathematical models representing the relationship between engine speed and engine throttle of a diesel engine test-unit. Both deterministic and stochastic model
types are derived and validated. Three parameter estimation techniques of Recursive
Least Squares (RLS), Recursive Extended Least Squares (RELS) and Differential
Evolution (DE) are used to estimate the engine parameters. Then, the nonlinear dynamic model of the engine type is derived and validated. Orthogonal Least Squares (OLS) estimation technique together with Error Reduction Ratio (ERR) procedures are used in the selection of the parsimonious model structure and parameter estimation for
nonlinear ARX (NARX) model. The accuracy of linear and nonlinear dynamic models
are compared and analyzed. The results show that all models derived are stable and
good in predicting the engine output. Next, adaptive PID speed controller based on pole
assignment method was designed, developed, tested and simulated before implemented in real-time on the engine test-unit. The adaptive controller is designed to track and regulate set-point speed as well as reject the disturbance introduced to the system. Throughout the investigation the control algorithm developed is tested at various engine set-point speeds and load disturbances. The results show that the algorithms produce very good dynamic output responses of the palm oil biodiesel engine. The algorithms have successfully achieved the control objective of tracking and regulating the engine speed. Furthermore, the experimental results also proved the disturbance rejection capability of the controller. The performance of the adaptive controller is compared with tracking, regulating and rejecting disturbance of automotive engine fuelled with petroleum diesel. In both cases, the controllers performed very well and proved to be reliable for both types of fuel. This study has significantly proved that adaptive PID speed controller developed performed effectively in controlling automotive engine speed fuelled with palm oil biodiesel and petroleum diesel without engine modification

The tool was initiated by R,A Fisher more than 70 years ago, but only begins to spread widely within manufacturing industry only in the 1980. Ocniclii Taguchi Is the one who is responsible in introducing DOB to engineers and the approach is known us Taguchi Method. Although the method is said as low resolution and less focus on interaction effect compared to Classical DOE and Response Surface Method (RSM), this approach is relatively simple and a good starting point for engineers to appreciate what DOE is all about. Furthermore, it is also a good tool for screening experiment, This approach is also sufficient for characterization and optimization when the main effect is dominant and only discrete factors are considered. Therefore, this paper shows an example on how Taguchi Method is applied by using data from previous work for the purpose of introduction to DOE. The experiment was design using L9 Orthogonal Array where 4 factors tested at 3 levels. This paper can be a quick reference to start utilizing DOE for beginners

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
