No full textEditada en la Fundación Empresa PúblicaEste trabajo ofrece los primeros resultados de un proyecto de investigación que intenta analizar las relaciones entre los grupos empresariales, el marco institucional y el desarrollo económico en España en el siglo XX a partir de una perspectiva microeconómica, un análisis histórico-institucional comparado y unas fuentes de naturaleza privada. A partir del estudio de los negocios de la familia Aznar desde 1937, fecha en la que se hace con el control de las empresas del anterior grupo Sota y Aznar, hasta 1983, cuando se produce la quiebra de la empresa más importante del grupo, la Naviera Aznar, se hará hincapié, sobre todo, en las consecuencias que una organización industrial basada en grupos empresariales y un marco institucional caracterizado por el intervencionismo extremo y la discrecionalidad del Estado tuvo sobre las capacidades y la competitividad de las empresas y las industrias y, por extensión, sobre el modelo de desarrollo económico de España durante el franquismo y la transición.This article shows the first results of a research project that attempts to analyse the relations between the business groups, the institutional framework and the economic development in 20th century Spain. It employs a microeconomic perspective, a historical-institutional analysis and private archival sources. The article focuses on the businesses of the Aznar family from 1937 (when they took over the management of the firms that formerly belonged to the Sota and Aznar group) to 1983 (when Naviera Aznar, the most important firm of the group, broke out and ceased business). Out of this empirical evidence, the article tries to underline the consequences that an industrial organization based on business groups and on an institutional framework characterized by the State's extreme interventionism and discretionality had on the capabilities and the competitiveness of Spanish firms and industries, and, by extension, on the economic development of Spain during the Franco's regime and the first Governments of the transition to democracy.Publicad
Development and validation of a LC–MS/MS method for the analysis of bisphenol a in polyethylene terephthalate
No full textBisphenol A (BPA) is widely recognized being an endocrine disrupter and it is employed in many food packaging applications. Although it is not intended to take part in the manufacture of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) food grade, the presence of BPA in recycled PET should not be neglected. To satisfy the increasing need to ensure “BPA-free” articles, a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed. The crucial step in the sample preparation was the total dissolution/reprecipitation of the polymer. The repeatability of the method (RSD%, n = 6) was lower than 7.6%, while HorRat values ranged between 0.3 and 0.5. Limits of detection and quantitation were 1.0 and 3.3 ng g−1, respectively. Recovery ranged from 89 to 107%. The method was applied to 23 samples of virgin and recycled pellets, preforms and bottles. Migration tests were also carried out. No full textAqueous two-phase systems have been of increasing importance as a method for separation and purification of biomaterials, such as proteins and enzymes, with economical advantages related to conventional methods. However, the thermodynamic modeling of these systems is not fully developed yet, and the data in the literature are scarce. In this work, liquid-liquid equilibrium data are experimentally determined for aqueous two-phase (water + polyethylene glycol 8000 + sodium sulfate) and (water + polyethylene glycol 8000 + magnesium sulfate), at temperatures of (25 and 50) °C. The experimental data are correlated by the NRTL model for the activity coefficient. Ethnic prejudice and the perception of inclusion of immigrant children: the mediating role of teachers' resilience
No full textWe aimed to investigate the relationship between ethnic prejudice and the perception of inclusion of immigrant children among primary and middle school teachers, focusing on the mediating role of resilience. Participants were 261 teachers, 233 women and 28 men, ages 34 to 66 (M = 51.67; SD = 8.27), recruited in primary and middle schools in Sicily (Italy). Participants completed the Classical and Modern Racial Prejudice Scale, the Resilience Process Questionnaire, and an ad hoc questionnaire for evaluating teachers' perception of inclusion of immigrant children. The results showed an effect of ethnic prejudice on the perception of inclusion of immigrant children and on resilient reintegration. The mediation model showed that resilient reintegration partially mediated the relationship between ethnic prejudice and the perception of inclusion of immigrant children. Educational and practical implications are provided
