Stress Management through the Philosophy of Yoga

    No full text
The purpose of this Bachelor’s thesis was to produce a four-week yoga philosophy-based course and examine whether it reduced the level of perceived stress in a trial group. The objectives were to understand negative effects of stress on a societal and individual level, study yoga philosophy and deepen professional knowledge of the author regarding these topics. In addition, the original aim of the commissioning party, the learning environment of the Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK), was to enhance their offering of stress management related services through the written information and the produced material. However, since the functioning of the learning environment was to be terminated in spring 2019, the main benefit remained in the professional growth of the author. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the prevalence of stress was discovered and an understanding of the harmfulness of stress on a societal level was established. Correspondingly, the disadvantages of stress on an individual level were researched. These led to the importance of stress management and from numerous techniques, yoga was chosen for this paper. Consequently, the philosophy of yoga was studied, with a focus on the teachings of Patanjali, and based on his techniques and a personal reasoning of the author, the course was compiled. The thesis was functional, and it had features from product development process and action research. The product development was used when compiling the course, and it involved a development area which was the stress management, and the problem identifying and finding the possible solution which occurred through the research to form the theoretical framework. Lastly, the product was tested with a trial group. Additionally, action research, a method where the aim is to implement a change towards better, was applied and a linear model of the method was executed, thus the cycle of research and action occurred just once. Five staff members of KAMK participated to a four-week trial which was mainly implemented online. When researching the functionality of the course, questionnaires including open and closed questions were presented for the initial mapping and at the end. The results indicated that this kind of course does not significantly reduce the level of perceived stress. The possible reasons for this, according to the results were: the course was too short, life events affected stress levels, a lack of engagement towards the online materials and introspection, or lack of commitment towards the practice of the suggested yoga postures. Nevertheless, the trial appeared to have other positive effects on the participants, depending on their engagement and personal background, and the course was perceived to be useful. Had there been more time to work within this context, the author would have reintroduced the topics, this time however, during contact sessions to allow time for introspection and conversation. Nevertheless, when seeking change, the results can be unexpected due to how the problem and suggested solutions are perceived. In conclusion, even without the achievement of reducing the level or perceived stress, the process can be considered successful due to the triggered positive effects, and professional development of the author in a societally important field

    No full text
The purpose of this thesis is to measure the students’ satisfaction with university lunch service, at the same time, to identify the international perspectives and suggest new strategies for the upcoming renovation. The research was conducted for the sake of both students and university’s restaurant itself, specifically, not only help them have a higher quality university lunch but also provide Fox Mamselli restaurant with the students’ expectations and develop ideas for a new canteen in the future. Different concepts of customer satisfaction, customer expectation and measurements are discussed in the theoretical part. This section explains the customer perceptions as well as the correlation between customer satisfaction and six-core determinants based on the conceptual model of (Wilson, et al., 2012). The researcher applied the SERVQUAL model in evaluating service quality and its linkage with the satisfaction level. Essentially, the information of university lunch served by the institutions of higher education in Finland is introduced, followed by multi-cultural views of Finnish cuisine and Finnish school meal obtained in initial studies. The author utilized two research methods, i.e. qualitative and quantitative methods to solve the research problems. An online survey was conducted with 117 participants, including both Finnish and foreign students at KAMK. A semi-structured interview with a representative of Fox Mamselli was then implemented via email to conclude in renovation strategies, which solve the remaining issues and expectations raised in the survey results. The study outcome illustrates that lunch price and service quality were both hit the highest satisfaction level. The school meal offered by Fox brings a positive image of Finnish cuisine to international customers as well. Nevertheless, menu selection and food quality should be prioritized to improve in the next renovation. Kajaani Mamselli has proposed applicable solutions for the lunch variety and international development such as organizing theme weeks and tasting afternoons. The canteen premise will be upgraded with expanded spaces and other amenities. Extra services added to the Fox lunch are taken into consideration with appropriate price adjustment

    No full text
This thesis focused on studying international students at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) to remain in the Kainuu region after graduation. This thesis is research-oriented, aiming to locate factors affecting retention in Kainuu. The beginning consists of a literature research, which includes articles and books supporting the topic. The literature mainly focuses on theories regarding retention and motivation. The second part includes a qualitative research in the form of an interview, in which eight current international students in KAMK were interviewed. They were asked 12 questions related to moti-vational factors, employment, and attractiveness of Kainuu. The results do not present a compre-hensive list of factors affecting retention, but the author believes it gives a general guide on the main ideas around motivation in remaining in Kainuu after graduation. After the literature research, the research methodology and the results were introduced, followed by suggestions for the region. Also, the success of the thesis was evaluated, as well as further re-search possibilities were introduced

Marketing Plan for Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Library

    No full text
The aim of this thesis was to write a marketing plan for the Kajaani University of Applied Science (KAMK) library. The marketing plan plays a huge role in the success of all organizations regardless of their type. The right marketing plan consists of identifying the target customers and planning to reach and retain them. The marketing plan works as a guideline and having a solid marketing plan helps the company to identify and embrace the current and future trends and challenges. The rapid growth of technology has already transformed the current business model of different organizations, including universities and academic libraries. One of the inevitable consequences is that along with these changes, customers’ expectations will also change. Therefore, it was essential to redefine the current and potential customers and analyze how they make use of the library collection and sources. In this thesis, the impact of these issues on the future development of the library services is discussed. The thesis provides updated and comprehensive information about the development of services and spaces within academic libraries. To embrace the transformation and stay in the competition, it is important to monitor these trends and analyze how they can alter the researchers’ view toward the library. The author completed his internship in the KAMK library and believes that it can satisfy the needs of the current and future students. The adoption of marketing strategies can create an awareness about the library’s collection and motivate students to use these resources in their research. Therefore, continuous and ongoing communication between the library and its patrons is highly suggested

Tiivistelmä Tekijä: Koskelo Karoliina Työn nimi: Myyntilaskutusprosessi Yritys X Tutkintonimike: Tradenomi (Kamk), Liiketalous Asiasanat: Myyntilaskutusprosessi, laskutusprosessin ongelmat, reklamaatio, prosessin kehittäminen Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena ja tavoitteena oli luoda toimeksiantajalle mahdollisimman selkeä kuva Yritys X:n myyntilaskutuksen nykytilasta, siinä ilmenevistä ongelmista ja tuoda esiin mahdollisia kehitysehdotuksia, joilla myyntilaskutuksessa ilmeneviä virheitä ja niistä johtuvia asiakasreklamaatioita voitaisiin vähentää. Kyseessä on tutkimuksellinen kehittämistehtävä, jonka teoreettisena viitekehyksenä on käytetty prosessien ja prosessien kehittämisen teoriaa sekä myyntilaskutusprosessiin liittyvää teoriaa. Aineiston hankintaan käytettiin vapaamuotoisia Skype-haastatteluja, havainnointia, dokumenttianalyysiä ja prosessianalyysiä. Monipuolisella aineiston läpikäynnillä pyrittiin saamaan mahdollisimman tarkka kuva Yritys X:n myyntilaskutusprosessista ja sen ongelmakohdista. Havainnointi nousi yhdeksi tärkeimmistä tiedonkeruun menetelmistä, sillä työharjoittelijana taloushallinnossa havainnointia tapahtuu jatkuvasti myyntilaskutusta tehdessä. Haastattelut lähinnä tukivat havain-noinnilla tehtyjä huomioita sekä toivat pääongelmien juurisyitä esille. Myyntilaskutusprosessin ongelmat tulevat usein esille vasta taloushallinnon osastolla, jossa tapahtuu Yritys X:n laskutus. Tästä syystä vapaamuotoiset haastattelut olivat tärkeä lisä, sillä ne antoivat tietoa laskun muodostumisen alkulähteiltä. Myyntilaskutusprosessin ongelmat voidaan jakaa ulkoisiin ja sisäisiin ongelmiin. Asiakaslähtöisiin ongelmiin tässä opinnäytetyössä ei suuremmin oteta kantaa, koska aiheena on Yritys X:n myyntilaskutusprosessin kehittäminen sisäisesti. Suurimmaksi ongelmaksi nousi virheet ja puutteet laskutustiedoissa, joista reklamaatiot pääosin johtuvat.  Abstract Author: Koskelo Karoliina Title of the Publication: Sales Invoicing Process Company X. Degree Title: Bachelor of Business Administration (Kamk), Business Economics Keywords: Sales invoicing process, problems in invoicing process, complaint, process development The purpose of this thesis was to provide the client with a clear picture of the current situation of the company’s sales invoicing process and its problems. The objective was also to adduce potential ideas for developing sales invoicing to reduce problems arising in invoicing and to decrease the amount of customer complaints due to faults in invoices. The thesis is a research and development assignment; the theoretical framework covers process and process development theory, as well as theory relating to a sales invoicing process. To gather information, informal Skype -interviews, observation, document and process analysis were used. The variety of methods, mentioned above, was used to achieve as accurate picture as possible of the company’s sales invoicing process and the problems in it. Observation arose as one of the most important ways of research since an intern in financial management can ob-serve the process while taking care of sales invoicing. In addition to employee observation, short informal Skype -interviews in a few customer service units were conducted among the employees in financial management. The interviews mostly supported the observations and adduced the core reasons of the main problems. In the company, problems in the sales invoicing process are often noticed only in the financial management department, which is responsible for sales invoicing. That is why informal inter-views were an important addition as those interviews gave more information from the initial source of the invoice. The problems of the sales invoicing process can be divided into two groups: customer oriented and internal problems. This thesis does not considerably editorialize the customer-oriented prob-lems because its focus is on internal problems and on developing the sales invoicing process internally. The biggest problem proved to be faults and defective invoice information, which was also the main cause of complaints

Tekijä(t): Herala Eetu Työn nimi: Metal Pursuit – metallimusiikkitapahtuma Tutkintonimike: Restonomi (AMK), matkailun koulutus Asiasanat: Tapahtuman järjestäminen, toiminnallinen opinnäytetyö, elämys Toiminnallisen opinnäytetyöni aiheena oli järjestää ja toteuttaa Metal Pursuit – metallimusiikkita-pahtuma, joka toteutettiin 21.4.2017. Työni toimeksiantajana toimi Kajaanin restonomiopiskelijat REKKa ry. Tapahtumapaikkana toimi Rock House Kulma. Abstract Author(s): Herala Eetu Title of the Publication: Metal Pursuit-metal music event Degree Title: Bachelor of Tourism Keywords: Event, event planning, event organizing, practice-based thesis, adventure The purpose of this functional thesis was to organize an event for people who listen to metal music.
