A study on organizational culture, performance, and technological adoption behaviours of Malaysian food-processing smes

    No full text
The present study focuses on the technological adoption behaviour of Malaysian food-processing SMEs that have the intention to adopt advanced technology for their manufacturing operation, but yet to adopt it. In particular, it investigates the relationship between organizational culture and firm performance as well as the relationship between firm performance and technological adoption behaviour. As these firms have yet to adopt advanced technology, the present study investigates their technological adoption behaviour in terms of perception on benefits and obstacles towards the technology adoption. Based on the data collected through a questionnaire survey, it was found that some organizational culture (specifically, group culture, and rationale culture) enhanced performance, while others did not. Meanwhile, performing firms are more favourable in terms of their technology adoption behaviour compared to the less-performing firms. Performing firms perceived more benefits and fewer obstacles related to knowledge and people compared to the less-performing firms. The study offers implications for both theory and practice

Employee perception of CSR activities, job attachment and organizational commitment

The idea that a business has duties toward society and its stakeholders is widely acknowledged and has increased dramatically in the recent years. This study examined the mediation effect of job attachment on the relationship between employee perception on corporate social responsibility CSR activities and organisational commitment. Data were obtained through survey questionnaires from a sample of 143 firms operating in Malaysia. The results indicated significant relationships between perception of CSR and job attachment, and between job attachment and organisational commitments. However, this study found no mediation effect of job attachment on the relationships between perception of CSR activities and organisational commitment. This indicates that CSR activities can directly affect both job attachment and relate to individual feelings toward the job and organisational commitment, which relate to feelings towards the organization. These results suggest that CSR activities make a powerful contribution to intangible organizational benefits. The study offers implications for both theory and practice

    English
Halal agriculture-based commodities have been growing rapidly in the world market, but Indonesia’s role is still limited. People think that halal certificate is a religious issue. This paper aims to assess positive sides of the halal certification in order to strengthen the agriculture-based industrial sector. This is a literature review and an observation of practice implementation of halal assurance system in Indonesia. Information was obtained from journals, books, magazines, newspapers and electronic media, such as official webs of certification bodies as well as personal communication with competent sources. The results indicate that issues on halal products become a significant opportunity to improve agribusiness economic power by strengthening agriculture-based industries.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Research on the Impact of BMI on Enterprise Performance Based on the Antecedence of Risk Perception

Despite research showing that business model innovation (BMI) can enhance performance and create competitive advantages for small- and medium-sized businesses, these firms often do not achieve the expected outcomes. A business model can undergo irreversible fundamental changes due to Business Model Innovation (BMI), resulting in high levels of risk, uncertainty, and ambiguity. An analysis of 350 Chinese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) was conducted to determine the impact of innovating a business model on firm performance. Based on BMI calculations, this study investigates whether organizational capabilities and growth strategies impact business performance. Even though BMI is not directly correlated with firm performance, growth in efficiency and novelty, organizational capacities, and revenue are all fully mediated by growth in those factors. Revenue growth, organizational capacity, and efficiency affect a firm’s performance. The model is proven to be valid by this study. In addition to providing guidelines on implementing BMI based on a company’s strategy, this study contributes to the existing literature on BMI efforts for small- and medium-sized businesses

Link to publisher's homepage at http://ijbt.unimap.edu.myentrepreneurial behaviors. They are also among the most challenging factors for creating new technology-based venture. Although the integration of technology readiness (TR) and financial literacy (FL) toward technopreneurial behavior (TB) has not been investigated, evidence in the literature supports their relationships. This paper investigates the combined role of TR and FL on technopreneurial intention (TI) and behavior. A cross-sectional survey was carried out and data was collected from 226 graduates. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Analysis of Moment Square (AMOS) graphics were used to analyzed a model with four-stage mediations. The findings show that TI is a full mediator on the relationship between TR (optimism and innovativeness) and TB. Similarly, it is a full mediator on the relationship between FL and TB. However, TI does not mediate the relationship between TR (discomfort and insecurity) and TB. The paper is the first to investigate the mediating effect of TI on the relationship between TR and TB as well as FL and TB among graduate using unified theory of technology acceptance and use (UTAUT 2). This research offers insights toward new technology-based firms’ creation. Equally, it has practical implications for graduate students, institutions of higher learning, formal financial institutions, and policy makers regarding technopreneurial development

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
