Husband\u27s duty to maintain a working wife under Islamic and civil law in Malaysia: are the law in harmony?

    No full text
Relationship between husband and wife creates certain rights and obligations that both of them are to enjoy and fulfill. Maintenance is one of the rights of the wife and one of the obligations of the husband. There is no dispute among the fuqaha as to the husband\u27s duty to provide maintenance to his wife. This paper seeks to examine the provisions of Islamic law in Malaysia on husband\u27s duty to maintain a working wife. The examination extends to the provision of Civil law in Malaysia, particularly the Married Women and Children (Maintenance) Act (1950) and the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976. Discussion will highlight the issue as to whether the two laws are in harmony when providing for such a duty to maintain on the husband. In addition, the paper will further highlight the husband\u27s duty to maintain the wife in the situation where the wife is disobedient or nusyuz. The research reveals that the provisions of Islamic and Civil law in Malaysia on husband\u27s duty to maintain a working wife, to a certain extent, are in harmony

FIGURE 4. A) Maximum Likelihood (ML) tree of Parambassis siamensis from Peninsular Malaysia based on COI sequences as inferred using RaxML-HPC2 and the model of sequence evolution GTR + G. Branch lengths are proportional to the number of substitutions. Numbers at nodes are Bootstrap Proportion (shown in % when>80%). This tree is rooted with a specimen of Parambassis ranga. B) Unrooted network of Parambassis siamensis from Peninsular Malaysia based on COI haplotypes inferred with the software PopArt and a median-joining algorithm.Published as part of Ghazali, Siti Zafirah, Lavoué, Sébastien, Zain, Khaironizam Md., Jamaluddin, Jamsari Amirul Firdaus, Ahmad, Amirrudin, Ratmuangkhwang, Sahat & Nor, Siti Azizah Mohd, 2022, Low morphological and genetic variation within the glass-perchlet Parambassis siamensis (Teleostei: Ambassidae) in Peninsular Malaysia, pp. 486-502 in Zootaxa 5128 (4) on page 496, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.5128.4.2, http://zenodo.org/record/647996

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
