Exploration of Mathematics Problem Solving Processes of Junior High School Students with Different Levels of Logical Thinking Ability
Problem solving is one of the most important skills for students. Meanwhile, logical thinking is the ability to solve problems by relying on mental abilities. The purpose of this research is to describe the problem solving process of students with different levels of logical thinking. This research is an exploratory qualitative research involving eighth grade students of SMP N 5 Tuban who have different levels of logical thinking as research subjects. The subjects who were interviewed were 4 students. Instruments to measure the level of logical thinking used The Group Assessment of Logical Thinking (GALT) while exploring the process of solving problems using the stages of entry, attack, and review. The results of the analysis show that students with high logical thinking skills meet the entry, attack, and review stage. Students with low logical thinking skills meet the entry stage in ‘know’ and ‘want’ aspects only, at the attack stage they only meet the try and possible aspects, and do not meet the review stage at all. Thus, it can be concluded that students with different levels of logical thinking ability have different mathematical problem solving abilities.</jats:p
Research Focusing on Assessment Literacy: A Systematic Literature Review
Assessment literacy relates to teacher\u27s ability to know and clearly understand the purpose, measurement, evaluation and use of assessment to report the overall level of student achievement in a particular subject or time period, reflect and take continuous follow-up action to improve instructional, student’s capability and achievement in learning. The purpose of this paper is to use co-citation analysis to detect the evolution of prior research linked to assessment literacy by identify the major sources and the classes they create (i.e. clusters) and reviews the significance of the aspects commonly mentioned by the authors in studies. The Scopus search engine was used to find the papers that were reviewed. All collected data were examined using the VOSviewer software to provide bibliometric results. The review\u27s primary focus is on assessment literacy research that is associated to discussion in educational activities. Finally, the data show that co-occurrence of keywords in documents and co-authorship by author indicate seven and six clusters, respectively. Six primary categories of co-authorship, as follows: (1) Changes to the education assessment system, as well as prospective teacher\u27s trust in its implementation, (2) The requirement for assessment concepts, (3) Literacy and data interpretation from teachers, (4) Assessing literacy and global needs, (5) Factors affecting teacher assessment, and (6) Methods for enhancing teachers\u27 assessment literacy in learning. This paper analysis aims to provide a more thorough knowledge of the evolution of research topics, scientific practice and trends in new and interesting fields of study
The antiviral activity of srikaya seed (Annona squamosa L.) ethanolic extract against newcastle disease virus in chicken embryo
Srikaya (A. squamosa L.) is a plant containing polyphenol, flavonoid, tannin, alkaloid and saponin compounds. These compounds could be extracted by ethanol solvent. Previous study shown that infuse of Srikaya seed had antiviral activity with value of IC50 3,236 'g/mL against Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV). Therefore, the aim of research is to know the potency of ethanolic extract of Srikaya seed as antiviral against Newcastle Disease Virus.The 28 chicken embryos at age of 9-11 days were classified into 7 groups, i.e. : control of virus, control of solvent ethanol : aquadest (1:10) and treatment groups were given ethanolic extract of Srikaya seed with concentration 0.1 'g/mL; 0.15 'g/mL; 0.2 'g/mL; 0.25 'g/mL; dan 0.3 'g/mL. NDV was inoculated into allantoic cavity intermediate after inoculated of extract and then incubated for 2 days. Antiviral activity were observed by hemaglutination method. The value of IC50 was calculated by probit analysis.The result showed that ethanol extract of srikaya seed (A. squamosa L.) had antiviral activity because of increasing concentration caused the higher inhibition percentage of hemaglutination. The value of IC50 is 0.152 'g/mL.Key words: Antiviral, Annona squamosa, Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV)
Multiple-choice items analysis using classical test theory and rasch measurement model
The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of difficulty item and person ability using two measurement frameworks, Classical Test Theory (CTT) and Rasch Measurement Model (RMM). A total of 100 undergraduate students from Faculty of Education were responded to final examination paper, Research Methodology. This paper consists of 60 multiple choice questions (MCQ). The values of Cronbach-α (CTT) obtained is 0.62 while Person Reliability (RMM) is 0.59 whereas Item Reliability is 0.96. This study found that there is a slight difference in level of item difficulty index and person ability obtained from CTT and RMM. Additionally, there is no significant difference (p>.05) between item difficulty index (CTT) and item measure (RMM). This study also found that there is no significant difference of person ability (p>.05) estimates by CTT and RMM. RMM is theoretically considered as the superior measurement framework over CTT, this study however found that item and person statistics appeared to be similar for this two measurement frameworks. Thus, the interpretations beyond the philosophy were discussed
