The use of code-switching on Twitter among Malaysian teenagers / Tengku Mohamad Faiz Tg Azhar
It is common for Malaysians to be bilingual or multilingual. Therefore, code-switching is a common phenomenon to occur in a conversation. This study was conducted in order to determine the types of code-switching and its language functions used in Twitter. This study was based on the tweets made by secondary school students from a boarding school in Malaysia. The types and the primary functions of the tweets were identified following Poplack’s (1980) types of code-switching and Appel and Muysken’s (2005) functions of code-switching. The findings showed that the majority of the code-switch occurrences were done intra-sententially. Besides, for both perceived and intended language functions, referential function is the most common among the participants. This study showed how language and code-switching were used in the social media. Besides, the present study also provided insights on which type of code-switching and their language functions so that proper measures could be taken. The findings of this study are not applicable to the general population as the number of the participants are limited. Due to time constraint, the interviews with the participants could not be carried out
Investigation of nicotinamide: cinnamic acid and nicotinamide:p-coumaric acid cocrystals / Mohamad Nor Amirul Azhar Kamis
A pharmaceutical cocrystal is defined as a solid compound that contains two or more different molecular components, which able to modify the physicochemical properties of drugs. In this work, cinnamic acid (CIN), and j^-coumaric acid (COU) were employed as the coformers for the cocrystal formation with nicotinamide (NIC) as the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). The cocrystals formations were studied using various feed molar ratios (1:1, 1:2, and 2:1) of API and coformer using different solvent (methanol, ethanol, and acetonitrile). The cocrystals formations were investigated through different solid state methods namely neat grinding, liquid-assisted grinding, and fast evaporation. The solid state samples were characterized using DSC, PXRD, and FTIR

Totes N Thing / Fazreen Izleen Rafidi and Anis Syazwana Mohamad Azhar
Totes N Thing started when the both of us wanted to make some income to support us financially while we were still studying. We choose to start a business selling tote bags because we find it a burden for students to carry our stuff but still want to be stylish. It is difficult to find a trendy bag that is practical to match our outfits. The brand name "Totes 'n' Thing' is chosen because it is short and simple, meaning it will be easier for people to remember and is is also wonderfully quirky. The name also shows the customer that we will expand our business into other things to in the future instead of just focusing on one product. Our form of business is a partnership owned by both of us, Fazreen Izleen and Anis Syazwana. For the moment, our business only takes place at our home to reduce the cost of rental since we do not have a lot of financial support yet
Malaysian capital market: sukuk versus conventional bond / Noriza Mohd Saad and Nor Edi Azhar Mohamad
This study investigates and estimates the impact of bond facets to issuer performance using multivariate regression model which is applied into three categories: (i) firm’s profitability which is proxies by return on asset (ROA), return on equity (ROE), net profit margin (NPM) and operating profit margin (OPM); (ii) firm’s efficiency is proxy by asset turnover (AT) and (iii) firm’s capital structure is proxy by debt to equity in Malaysia. On the other hand, we applied ANOVA approach to compare between sukuk or Islamic bonds and conventional bonds. Secondary data was used for issuance (N= 563) cover the 2005-2009 periods which are gathered from Bank Negara Info Bond Hub website and Rating Agency Malaysia (RAM) for such a bond facets. However, data on issuer performance has been obtained from Bloomberg software and Thompson Data Stream. The results revealed that there is a statistically significant relationship among variables and most of the public listed issuer was issued sukuk as compared to conventional bonds. Based on the regression result it was recommended that bond issuer should deeply considered bond rating in their future issuances to tap the bond market at competitive rate since it was statistically significant to all regressions model
Properties of acacia mangium wood cement board in relation to particle size and additives (na2si03) / Mohamad Alif Aizat Mohd Azhar
Properties of acacia mangium wcb in relation to
particle size and additives (Na2Sj03)
Particle size and Cldditives (Na:,S,O;) had significance effect on physical
and mechanical properties of WCB. One WCly analysis of variance
(ANOVA) hCls been used to examine if there is any significance
differences between the populations mean. The findings were revolved
around the mechanical and physical properties of Wood Cement Board
(WCB) from ACClcia mangium. The two parameters that involved in this
study are the particle sizes and the additives (Na2S,OJ) Particle size,
additives (Na;,S,OJ and the correlation between particle size and
additives (Na..S,O.l) influence on all the WCB properties. The values of
physical properties for particle size effect all met the standards of
MS544:2001 except for particle size 2.0rnm of 0% Na2S,03 and 15%
Na2S,O" which are WA not met the standards of MS544:2001. Effect of
particle size on mechanical properties indicate fluctuation due to the
decreasing of particle sizes while the effect of particle size on physical
properties also show fluctuation due to the decreasing of particle sizes.
Meanwhile, the effect of additives which are 3% of Na2S,03 tends to
cause higher values of MOR (136MPa), MOE (5,979MPa) and IB
(1.56Mpa) on the effect of mechanical properties. The effect of additives
(Na2S,OJ) on physical properties, the value of WA and TS tends to
decrease corresponding due to the percentage (3%) of Na2S,OJ
Comparison of microbial contamination on lips cosmetics tester at drug store, Seremban / Nur Qamariah Wiraie Mohamad Azhar
Cosmetic tester is the sample of the product provided by the company for consumer to try it before buying the product. Cosmetic can provide a suitable medium for pathogenic microbial growth. Cosmetic products do not necessarily sterile but it must not be contaminated with pathogenic microorganism. Hence, the objectives of this study is to isolate and identify Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli in lips cosmetic testers and to compare the contamination level among the lip cosmetic testers available in drug store at Seremban. A new unused sample, two weeks old and 4 weeks old sample testers were obtained from Drug store at Seremban. 0. lg of each sample was homogenized in 2ml of tween 80 before added 8ml of sterile nutrient broth to the sample emulsion. 0.1ml of sample emulsion was spread on Pseudomonas isolation agar and Eosin Methylene blue agar before incubated at 37° C for 24 hours. The colonies growth was identified and the contamination level is determined using total colony forming unit. Regarding the result, there was no growth on the unused tester while the used tester contained Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Citrobacter freundii. The total colony count in 2 weeks sample is 1004 CFU/g while in the 4 weeks sample is 2833 CFU/g. In comparison, the contamination level of 4 weeks old sample is higher than 2 weeks old sample. In conclusion, the lips cosmetic testers were contaminated as it exceeded microbiological limit for finished lip care product with the requirement absence of gram negative bacteria
