    No full text
Tulisan ini juga bermaksud untuk mengeksplorasi konsep uzlah, wali, mahabbah, dan ilmu ladunni in ‘Tafsir al-Azhar’.---AbstractThe Misthycism is a part of Islamic knowledge emphases the values of estetic, especially talking about attitudes to God and the Human being. When Aisha r.a. was asked by a companion of prophet He said,” His attitude is the Holy al-Qur’an”. In his tafsir, Hamka stated that the most important thing quoted from it was ethic (akhlaq). Even it is one of the amazing of the Holy Qur’an which had spread Islam to the whole of the world. This paper will track the conception of Hamka’s tasawuf as a little prototife from his work about Tasawuf at ‘Tasawuf Modern’. The paper will focus in  Hamka’s bliography and his relate with tasawuf, the methode of interpretating, main references, characteristics Tafsir al-Azhar, methode in writing it, and the approacs used in his interpretations. Also focusing to explore conception of uzlah, sufi saint (wali), mahabbah, ilmu ladunni in ‘Tafsir al-Azhar’

THE CULTURAL REPRESENTATION OF AMERICAN AND PAKISTANI AS SEEN IN AISHA SAEED’S WRITTEN IN THE STARS

    No full text
Representation of culture is portrayed in literary works. The representation of culture brings the reproduction of the said culture into public eyes. When the representation of a culture is wrongly done, the country whose culture is being presented takes its burden. This problem is depicted in Aisha Saeed’s Written in the Stars. Regarding the issue, this research is intended to analyze the cultural representation of two cultures presented by the author in the story using Stuart Halls representation theory. Furthermore, this is qualitative research in which the researcher comprehends social problems based on detailed information in its natural setting on the novel. Based on the analysis, the representation of two cultures, which are Pakistan and America, varies from each other. The cultural representation of Pakistan emphasizes the condition of a third-world country with issues of how women are unfairly treated. In contrast, the cultural representation of America explains the country, aside from their sexes, treats individuals fairly

Early presynaptic and late postsynaptic components contribute independently to Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor-induced synaptic plasticity

    No full text
Trophin-induced synaptic plasticity consists of both presynaptic and postsynaptic processes. The potential interdependence of these mechanisms and their temporal relationships are undefined. The synaptic vesicle protein Rab3A is required for the early, initial 10 min phase, but not for the later phase of BDNF-enhanced transmission. We now examine the temporal distinction and mechanistic relationships between these phases of BDNF action. Rab3A mutant cells did not exhibit increased mEPSC frequency in response to BDNF in cell culture, indicating absence of the presynaptic component. In contrast, BDNF enhanced post-synaptic glutamate-induced current in the mutant neurons as in the wildtype, indicating that the postsynaptic component of the response was intact. Finally, the postsynaptic NMDA receptor subunit NR2B was phosphorylated at Tyr1472 by BDNF in Rab3A knockouts, as previously shown in wildtype. Our results are the first to demonstrate that presynaptic and postsynaptic components of BDNF-enhanced synaptic activity are independent and temporally distinct.Peer reviewe

Public Service Motivation: A Conflict Triangle of Compassion, Self-sacrifice and Work–Family Life Balance

    No full text
This case discusses the situation of a novice scholar, Dr Maryam Ali, who has to decide between accepting an attractive job offer in a different city or staying in her current position to work on a community project aimed at empowering poor women in a small town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). The case explains how Maryam, while writing a grant proposal, gets to know the harsh financial realities of the extremely poor women of the local area. While she wins the grant for the project, she is offered an attractive job in another city. Given her family circumstances, particularly her husband’s job and the kids’ schooling, Maryam should immediately move to the other city. However, Maryam does not want to move without completing the project that gave much hope to the needy women for initiating small-scale earnings. The intrinsic motivation to actually help the poor women eventually superseded her desire for extrinsic rewards to earn professional recognition for executing the community project. Her decision to run the project led to tensions and arguments between the couple. The case examines interesting ways to explore and debate compassionate orientation of a highly career-oriented woman. The case exposes the participants to a variety of issues related to public service motivation including self-sacrifice, compassion, commitment to public interest and work–family life balance. </jats:p
