Islamic Golden Age, 9-12 century AD, was the period through which Persian scientists and physicians were most influential in improving medical sciences including cardiovascular knowledge. Although post-Islamic Golden Age witnessed a number of great Persian scholars moving cardiovascular concepts forward, they failed to become as well known as their predecessors. One of these scholars was Hakim Mohammad Azam Khan belonging to the 19th century. He authored many books on medical sciences. He wrote all the books in Persian. Some of his most famous works are Eksir Azam (The Greatest Elixir; a comprehensive medical encyclopedia); Romouz Azam (The Greatest Secrets; a general book on medicine) and Qarabadin Azam (Pharmacopeia). In addition, he had a valuable treatise on pulsology, named Naiier Azam. Naiier Azam, one of the important works on cardiology in Persian medicine, which includes three parts: one introduction and two teaching chapters (Taelim)

The figure and personality of the Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah is a fertile area for researchers, for he played a key role in the creation of Pakistan which altered the political map of South Asia and ushered in a new era of freedom struggle in the Muslim world particularly and the world at large. Professor Dr. Sikandar Hayat, an eminent researcher and scholar has written extensively, in national and international research journals, on the Muslim struggle for Independence and especially on the role of Jinnah in the making of Pakistan. The book under review is his recent discourse on the Quaid worth reading and fills the gap in the existing historical research material. &nbsp

Introduction: Fertility and having healthy child is one of the valuable indexes in people's health. Incidence of infertility in the world has a treatment economic load and also causes significant psychiatric complications for the infertile couples and threats the health of family. Given the importance of the issue, attention to complementary medicine and use of Iranian traditional medicine can be useful and helpful. This study was performed with aim to evaluate the causes of infertility from Iranian traditional Medicine (ITM) point of view according to the valuable Exir book of Hakim Mohammad Azam Khan. Methods: This study was performed as library based on reference availabe and reliable books of traditional medicine such as law in medicine, store of Kharazmshahi, Aghili's Kholasah al-Hekmah and Moalejat with a focus on Azam Exir, and finally, what Hakim Azam Khan explained about the causes of infertility was stated. Results: Iranian medicine Hokama have suggested various reasons as the causes of infertility in men and women, separately, and stated different treatment methods such as single plants, combined drugs and method performed manually including bloodletting, cupping, and massage, and at the end of the treatment method in food section explained the type of food that is useful for disease. They divided causes of infertility into two groups of male and female factors and emphasized on the existence of semen in men and women and the role of each one in fertility. Sufficient production of semen in males and ovum in females depends on the health of body's main and vital members (including the heart, brain and liver). They reported fertility was possible through the health of genital system and production of reproductive semen in both and simultaneous orgasm of man and woman when having sex. Conclusion: According to the careful viewpoint of Hakim Azam Khan in explaining the causes of infertility and accurately classifying them, as well as description of how to diagnose and treatment courses of each of the infertility causes, it seems that today by relying on their views on empirical research, we can achieve more effective treatments for infertility. © 2015 - Journal Management System

Fenton-like oxidation of dyes using CoxFe3-xO4 catalyst / Mohammad Khairul Azam Selamat

    Get PDF
The cobalt ferrite catalyst were synthesised through the substitution of cobalt into iron oxide matrix via co-precipitation and inverse co-precipitation methods. XRD analysis shown that both catalysts exhibited with cubic spinel phase. No impurity was detected in co-precipitated cobalt ferrite phase. Meanwhile, there is a presence of halide impurity being observed in the inversed co-precipitated catalyst. The FTIR spectrum of co-precipitated cobalt ferrite depicted with higher tetrahedral and octahedral bond substitution compared to inverse co-precipitation catalyst. The particle size of both catalysts were found to be approximately 1.44 ± 0.19 and 1.71 ± 0.28 (xm for co¬precipitation and inverse route, respectively. Interestingly, both catalyst were stable in suspension at neutral pH based on the zeta potential value of -32 mV. The inherent catalytic activity of these catalyst were evaluated based on the degradation of three types of difference dyes. The oxidative degradation of Acid Orange 7 (AO7), Methylene Blue (MB), Rhodamine B (RhB) were performed in the heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction. It was found that different dye behaved differently during the catalysis. AO7 has shown significant removal in both adsorption and catalysis processes; whilst the removal of MB and RhB were negligible. The co-precipitated catalyst shown higher performance in AO7 degradation (66%) compared to inverse co-precipitated catalyst (11%). Such findings suggested that the catalyst synthesised through co-precipitation method was favourable in contrast with the inverse co¬precipitation method

Predictors of fresh organic fruits and vegetables consumption through intention of consumption / Nur Hazwani Mohammad Azam

    Get PDF
Since the environmental awareness is increasing among the consumers, most of them decide to change their food consumption pattern to organic food. This trend had caused a lot of research and studies to be conducted to further understand the underlying factors that can lead to the behaviour. Theory of Planned Behaviour is a famous framework that had been used by researchers to understand factors that influence the intention and actual behaviour of organic consumption. There are also other factors that influence the intention and actual behaviour of organic consumption apart from the three main variables in Theory of Planned Behaviour (attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control). This study applied the Theory of Planned Behaviour and added other independent variables (health awareness and personal norm) to find out the main factors that can predict the intention to consume fresh organic fruits and vegetables of the respondents who never consumed fresh organic fruits and vegetables before. It is found out that two independent variables from Theory of Planned Behaviour, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control are significantly influence the intention to consume fresh organic fruits and vegetables. One of the added variables, personal norm that represent environmental awareness is also found significant. It shows that the Theory of Planned Behaviour can be improved by adding personal norm to predict the intention to consume fresh organic fruits and vegetables among the consumers who never consumed fresh organic fruits and vegetables before

Revealing the secret life of pre-implantation embryos by time-lapse monitoring: A review

    No full text
High implantation success following in vitro fertilization cycles are achieved via the transfer of embryos with the highest developmental competence. Multiple pregnancies as a result of the transfer of several embryos per cycle accompany with various complication. Thus, single-embryo transfer (SET) is the preferred practice in assisted reproductive technique (ART) treatment. In order to improve the pregnancy rate for SET, embryologists need reliable biomarkers to aid their selection of embryos with the highest developmental potential. Time-lapse technology is a noninvasive alternative conventional microscopic assessment. It provides uninterrupted and continues the survey of embryo development to transfer day. Today, there are four time-lapse systems that are commercially available for ART centers. In world and Iran, the first time lapse babies were born in 2010 and 2015, respectively, conceived by SET. Here, we review the use of time-lapse monitoring in the observation of embryogenesis as well as its role in SET. Although, the findings from our review support common use of time-lapse monitoring in ART centers; but, future large studies assessing this system in well-designed trials are necessary

    No full text
This volume is a collection of essays in honour of Professor Mohammad Ardeshir. It examines topics which, in one way or another, are connected to the various aspects of his multidisciplinary research interests. Based on this criterion, the book is divided into three general categories. The first category includes papers on non-classical logics, including intuitionistic logic, constructive logic, basic logic, and substructural logic. The second category is made up of papers discussing issues in the contemporary philosophy of mathematics and logic. The third category contains papers on Avicenna’s logic and philosophy.Mohammad Ardeshir is a full professor of mathematical logic at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, where he has taught generations of students for around a quarter century. Mohammad Ardeshir is known in the first place for his prominent works in basic logic and constructive mathematics. His areas of interest are however much broader and include topics in intuitionistic philosophy of mathematics and Arabic philosophy of logic and mathematics. In addition to numerous research articles in leading international journals, Ardeshir is the author of a highly praised Persian textbook in mathematical logic. Partly through his writings and translations, the school of mathematical intuitionism was introduced to the Iranian academic community
