    Product diversification and debt maturity : North-American companies

To conduct this study a sample of 571486 firms (North-American) was taken from a period of 1976 to 2013. For simplicity, only firms with operations the within US and Canada were considered. Geographic diversified firms were excluded. The long-term debt level of diversified firm was compared with non-diversified firms for various product lines, and the results show that diversified firms have more long-term debt compared to non-diversified firms. Moreover, I also find that debt level increases with the increase of product lines

Densities and sound velocities of L-proline and L- lysine in water and in aqueous 0.03 mol.kg-1, 0.045 mol.kg-1, 0.06 mol.kg-1 and 0.09 mol.kg-1 nicotinamide solutions have been studied at 293.15K to 318.15K with an interval of 5K. The density data have been used to calculate apparent molar volume (φv), limiting apparent molar volume (φv 0), limiting apparent molar volume transfer (Δtrφv 0), apparent molar expansibilities (δφv 0/δT)p and Hepler’s constant (δ2φv 0/δT2)p. The acoustic properties such as adiabatic compressibility (βs), apparent molar adiabatic compressibility (k), limiting apparent molar adiabatic compressibility (φk 0), apparent molar adiabatic compressibility of transfer (Δtrφk 0), acoustic impedance (Z), relative association (RA) and hydration number (nH) have been calculated by densities and sound velocities data. The densities increase with the increase of concentration of amino acids. Densities of amino acids in aqueous nicotinamide solutions are higher than that of amino acids in aqueous solution. The increase of density with concentration of amino acids can be attributed to solute-solvent interaction. The limiting apparent molar volumes (φv 0) are positive at the studied temperatures for the binary and ternary mixtures indicate the presence of solute-solvent interactions. The smaller values of Sv as compared to φv 0 values suggest the dominance of solute-solvent interaction over the solute-solute interaction. The limiting apparent molar volume transfer (Δtrφv 0) values of L-proline are negative which suggest the existence of ion-hydrophobic and hydrophobic-hydrophobic group interaction. But Δtrφv 0 values of L- lysine are positive which suggest the existence of ionhydrophilic and hydrophilic-hydrophilic interactions. The values of limiting apparent molar expansion (δφv 0/δT)p are positive which suggest the presence of solute-solvent interactions in solutions of amino acids in nicotinamide. Hepler’s constant (δ2φv 0/δT2)p values are small negative for all studied amino acids suggest the studied systems act as structure makers. The values of partial molar volumes ( 2) increase with increasing of concentration of L-proline and L- lysine for the studied systems. This trend of 2 indicates solute-solvent interactions increase with increasing concentration of amino acids. The sound velocity increases with the increase of concentration of L-proline and L- lysine. This may be attributed to the increase of compactness of the medium with the increase in amino acids concentration. Sound velocities of amino acids in aqueous nicotinamide solutions are higher than that of amino acids in aqueous solution. The adiabatic compressibility (βs) decreases with the increase of concentration of L-proline and L- lysine. This indicates the water molecules around the amino acids are less compressible than the water molecules in the bulk solution. The negative apparent molar adiabatic compressibility (k) values indicate the greater loss of structural compressibility of water. The values of limiting apparent molar adiabatic compressibility (φk 0) are negative. The values of apparent molar adiabatic compressibility transfer (Δtrφk 0) are positive which suggest the existence of strong ion-solvent interaction. At lower concentration, negative values of Δtrφk 0 indicate that increase in hydrophobic-hydrophobic group interactions. The small Sk values also indicates the dominating of solute–solvent interactions over solute – solute interaction. The acoustic impedance, Z increases with the increase of concentration of solution. The relative association, RA decreases linearly with increasing the concentration of solute indicates the increase of solute-solvent interaction. The positive hydration number (nH) values indicate an appreciable solvation of solutes. Therefore, the water molecules around amino acids are less compressible than water molecules in the bulk solution. The compressibility of ternary solution is less than binary solution. This result suggests that the proteins or peptides generated from the studied amino acids that will be denatured in ternary nicotinamide solution.Md. Golam AzamMaster of Science in Chemistr

The experiment consisted of seven treatments of various management practices viz. i) Seed treatment by Furadan 56 ( Carbofuran) (ä) 4% before sowing ii) Seed treatment by Cruisar 70 WS (Imidacloprid) before sowing iii) spraying of Nccm seed oil (1. 10 ml of water + 'frix 44 5 milL of water at 20 DAS and following spray at an interval of 10 days and continued up to the maturity of the crop iv) Spraying of Cymbush 10 EC ( Cypermethrin) d!I milL of water at 20DAS and at 35 DAS v) Spraying of Ekalux 25 EC (Quinalphos) 4 2 milL of water at 20DAS and at 35 DAS vi) Spraying of Shobicorm 425 [C (Propenphos + Cypermcthrin) @20 mIlL of water at 200AS and at 35 DAS and vii) Untreated (Control). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. The stem fly. trips and white fly were tbund to attack mungbean fIeld. The highest stem tunneling (22.52 %) was recorded from the untreated control and lowest (14.50 %) from the application of Furadan 5(1 (Carbofuran) 4% before sowing. The highest reduction of infestation in case of stem tunneling by stem fly over control was recorded from application of Furadan 56 (Carbofuran) (Ô. 4% before sowing. The lowest number of whitctly (1.95 white fly/5 leaves) was recorded from application of Furadan 56 which also ensured the highest population reduction of 62.87% over control followed by Shobicorm 425 EC treatments (2.02 whitelly/5 leaves) which was equivalent to a reduction of 61.53 % successively over control. Spraying of Shobicorm 425 [C 20 mIlL of water at 20DAS and at 35 DAS (57.92%) treatment had the lowest number of thrips (2.5 per 5 leaves) where as the highest number of thrips (5.2 per 5 leaves) was recorded from untreated control

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
