Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Conception et utilisation d'outils d'e-santé dans le parcours de soin en obésité pédiatrique : modes d'engagement des professionnels et des patients au sein du RéPPOP
No full textCette thèse interroge le développement et l'utilisation de l'e-santé dans le cadre de l'obésité pédiatrique, en se centrant sur l'étude des modes d'engagement (Dodier, 1993) des acteurs, professionnels et patients, de trois projets numériques. Nous réalisons une enquête qualitative, s'appuyant sur une triangulation méthodologique dans le recueil des données. Ainsi, nous mettons en œuvre à la fois une étude documentaire, des observations ethnographiques au sein du RéPPOP durant trois années, et quarante entretiens semi-directifs avec les différents acteurs des projets. Une analyse thématique du matériel s'accompagne d'une analyse des réseaux de projet démontrant des accès aux ressources par recomposition des chaines relationnelles (Grossetti, 2011). Notre étude interroge les processus d'innovation technologique en santé (Gaglio, 2011), de la conception à l'utilisation de ces dispositifs. En premier lieu, l'investissement initial dans la construction de ces technologies fait preuve des nombreuses promesses qui les entourent, à la fois dans les discours institutionnels, mais également au sein du RéPPOP (Réseau de Prévention et de Prise en charge de l'Obésité Pédiatrique) qui est notre point d'entrée dans ce travail. Ensuite, l'e-santé repose sur des réseaux sociotechniques (Akrich et al., 2006) hybrides et étendus, qui mobilisent à la fois des soignants, des informaticiens, des illustrateurs, des patients, etc. L'étude des modes de coordination (Dodier, 1993) mis en place entre ces acteurs, nous permet de comprendre comment, et dans quel réseau, ils sont recrutés, mais également comment ils travaillent ensemble. L'engagement sur le long terme de ces acteurs dépend ainsi de la capacité de ceux-ci à collaborer. Enfin, nous démontrons que ces technologies reposent pour leur création sur les promesses (Audétat, 2015) et les imaginaires (Flichy, 2001) véhiculés par les concepteurs, plutôt que sur les besoins et pratiques des futurs utilisateurs (Grosjean et al., 2019). En nous intéressant à la distance entre promesse et usage (Gaglio, 2018), nous dévoilons combien l'e-santé ne peut répondre, comme espéré, aux problématiques de terrain. Elle est finalement difficile à intégrer au sein d'un parcours de soin dont les pratiques rodées et l'organisation protocolaire restent peu compatibles avec ces outils numérique, entendus par les professionnels de terrain comme une contrainte supplémentaire.This thesis questions the development and use of e-health in the context of pediatric obesity, focusing on the study of the modes of engagement (Dodier, 1993) of the actors, professionals and patients, in three digital projects.
We carry out a qualitative investigation, relying on a methodological triangulation in the collection of data. Thus, we implement a documentary study, ethnographic observations within the RéPPOP during three years, and forty semi-directive interviews with the different actors of the projects. A thematic analysis of the material is accompanied by an analysis of the project networks demonstrating access to resources by recomposition of relational chains (Grossetti, 2011). Our study questions the processes of technological innovation in health (Gaglio, 2011), from the design to the use of these devices. First, the initial investment in the construction of these technologies demonstrates the many promises surrounding them, both in institutional discourses, but also within the RéPPOP (Réseau de Prévention et de Prise en Charge de l'Obésité Pédiatrique) which is our entry point in this work. Secondly, e-health is based on hybrid and extensive socio-technical networks (Akrich et al., 2006), which mobilize caregivers, computer specialists, illustrators, patients, etc. The study of the modes of coordination (Dodier, 1993) set up between these actors allows us to understand how, and in which network, they are recruited, but also how they work together. The long-term commitment of these actors thus depends on their ability to collaborate. Finally, we demonstrate that these technologies rely for their creation on the promises (Audétat, 2015) and imaginaries (Flichy, 2001) conveyed by the designers, rather than on the needs and practices of future users (Grosjean et al., 2019). By focusing on the distance between promise and use (Gaglio, 2018), we reveal how e-health cannot respond, as hoped, to the problems in the field. In the end, it seems difficult to integrate into a care pathway whose established practices and protocol-based organization are not very compatible with these digital tools, which are seen by professionals in the healthcare pathway as an additional constraint
