Ambiguity-Aware Multi-Object Pose Optimization for Visually-Assisted Robot Manipulation

    No full text
6D object pose estimation aims to infer the relative pose between the object and the camera using a single image or multiple images. Most works have focused on predicting the object pose without associated uncertainty under occlusion and structural ambiguity (symmetricity). However, these works demand prior information about shape attributes, and this condition is hardly satisfied in reality; even asymmetric objects may be symmetric under the viewpoint change. In addition, acquiring and fusing diverse sensor data is challenging when extending them to robotics applications. Tackling these limitations, we present an ambiguity-aware 6D object pose estimation network, PrimA6D++, as a generic uncertainty prediction method. The major challenges in pose estimation, such as occlusion and symmetry, can be handled in a generic manner based on the measured ambiguity of the prediction. Specifically, we devise a network to reconstruct the three rotation axis primitive images of a target object and predict the underlying uncertainty along each primitive axis. Leveraging the estimated uncertainty, we then optimize multi-object poses using visual measurements and camera poses by treating it as an object SLAM problem. The proposed method shows a significant performance improvement in T-LESS and YCB-Video datasets. We further demonstrate real-time scene recognition capability for visually-assisted robot manipulation.

Abstract Mobile Payments in Global Trade Governance AYoung Kim International Commerce, International Studies Graduate School of International Studies Seoul National University The technological development has enabled us to live in a way our ancestors never imagined. The barters evolved into commerce, creating a banking system. The advent of electronic devices and internet accelerated such development. In 1997, the first mobile payment transaction happened. Since then, the m-commerce market grew fast, and numerous studies were done on mobile payments. Despite the increasing use of mobile payments and number of research, the research topic has been limited. Scholars focused on the same topics: consumer adoptions and technology aspects. However, as some academic community suggested, studies should be done in diverse perspectives. This includes legal and regulatory analysis. Even few studies done legally focused on domestic regulation. Therefore, this paper will investigate the mobile payments in global trade governance. First, it will have an introduction on mobile payments and review on previous mobile payment research topics. Then, it will examine whether the current global trade governance is applicable to the mobile payments. The possibly relevant provisions will be assessed. The future of the mobile payment will be predicted.I. Introduction 1 II. Mobile Payments 2 1. Definition 2 2. Overview 3 3. The Current Market Trend 4 4. Mobile Revolution in Emerging Markets 5 5. The Index of Relative Rurality (IRR): US County Data for 2020

    No full text
<p>The Index of Relative Rurality (IRR) is a continuous, threshold-free, and unit-free measure of rurality.</p> <p> </p> <p>The original version of the IRR was proposed by Waldorf (2006, <a href="http://ageconsearch.umn.edu/handle/21383">http://ageconsearch.umn.edu/handle/21383</a>) as an alternative to the traditional discrete threshold-based classifications, such as the Rural-urban Continuum Code and the Urban Influence Code. Waldorf and Kim (2015) re-designed measuring the index and applied it to publish improved county-level IRR for 2000 and 2010. IRR 2020 was measured by the same method suggested in 2015 except for the network data (North American Roads*) due to the data availability. (* Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), <a href="https://geodata.bts.gov/datasets/usdot::north-american-roads/about">https://geodata.bts.gov/datasets/usdot::north-american-roads/about</a>). </p> <p> </p> <p>The IRR has three significant advantages over typology-based rurality measures. (1) It is spatially flexible in that it can be designed for any spatial units; (2) it is a relative measure and thus embeds rurality in the broader system of settlements; (3) it is analytically more easily handled than threshold-based typologies.  </p> <p> </p> <p>The IRR ranges between 0 (low level of rurality, i.e., urban) and 1 (most rural). Four steps are involved in its design:</p> <p>1. Identifying the dimensions of rurality: population size, density, remoteness, and built-up area.<br> 2. Selecting measurable variables to adequately represent each dimension:<br>      a. Size: logarithm of population size<br>      b. Density:  logarithm of population density.<br>      c. Remoteness: network distance.<br>      d. Built-up area: urban area (as defined by the US Census Bureau) as a percentage of total land area.<br> 3. Re-scaling the variables onto bounded scales that range from 0 to 1.<br> 4. Selecting a link function: unweighted average of the four re-scaled variables.</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://agmsstate.maps.arcgis.com/apps/mapviewer/index.html?webmap=b78c9d6451934f508a7fa1746f48f8c3">IRR 2020 - County-level Map</a></p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Please cite this work:</strong></p> <p>DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.7675745</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>For more information:</strong><br> Waldorf, Brigitte, and Ayoung Kim. 2015. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
