    No full text
Aim: This paper focuses on different statistical methods for comparing two measurement methods with an additionally available gold standard. A given data example is used as the basis of the calculations. Method: We provide a complementary statistical analysis of a study presented by Hoffmann et al. on sonometric and palpatory measurements of the size of pigmented skin tumours in 681 patients. Results: For comparing two measurement methods with respect to a gold standard, several statistical parameters assessing one measurement method can be used. In addition, there are further descriptive and some inference-statistical methods available. Conclusion: If there is a suitable categorization of the measurements, the comparison of the methods should be performed using the positive predictive values and kappa coefficients as descriptive measures. Moreover, the McNemar test can be used for comparing the differential accuracy of allocation. When investigating continuous measurements, a comparison using mere correlation analyses can lead to false conclusions. Therefore, we recommend the direct analysis of the individual measurement errors by means of numerical and graphical representations. The absolute values of the measurement errors can be compared using the sign test for paired samples

Résumé This thesis aims to describe the life and work of the poet, translator, journalist and Czechoslovak diplomat Camill Hoffmann. Hoffmann was born to a Jewish family in Kolin, his mother tongue was German but he also spoke Czech well. He attended a grammar school in Prague where he soon became a member of a poet's society publishing in the journal Jaro (Spring) which was issued by Paul Leppin. "Spring generation", as they were later called after the journal, is counted to the neoromantics. At the beginning of the 20th century, Hoffmann leaves for Vienna where he begins to work as a journalist for the daily Zeit. There he makes friends with Stefan Zweig, together they translate Baudelaire's poetry book Flowers of Evil. While writing for the culture department of the Zeit, he has close contacts to writers from central Europe, to Arthur Schnitzler, Marie Ebner von Eschenbach or Detlev von Lilliencron. Recommended by Max Brod, Hoffmann also published a poem of Franz Werfel, by that time an unknown author. In 1912, Hoffmann moves to Dresden where he works as a culture section chief-editor of the daily Dresdner Neuesten Nachrichten. V revolučních letech 1918/19 Hoffmann...Institute of Germanic StudiesÚstav germánských studiíFaculty of ArtsFilozofická fakult

Progressive spinal muscular atrophy of infants (Werdnig-Hoffmann paralysis)

The author feels that these six cases are clinically and pathologically similar to those described by Werdnig and Hoffmann. Seen at an early age there is little doubt that clinically they might have been diagnosed as Oppenheim's disease. The author is inclined to agree with Greenfield, Stern and others that Werdnig- Hoffmann paralysis and Oppenheim's disease are one and the same condition with widely differing clinical manifestations, but the same pathological basis
