Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science 1996-2000: A Bibliometric Study
A bibliometric examination of all the journal articles published in the Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science from 1996-2000 was carried out. The range of articles published per volume is between 14 and 17; average number of references per article is 22.5; the average length per article is 41.2 pages; 53(69. 74%) of the articles are research oriented, the percentage of multi-authored papers is slightly higher at 52.6% or 40 papers out of a total of 76, Zainab Awang Nga, the most prolific author contributed 12 articles followed by B. K. Sen (10 papers), Tiew Wai Sin (8 papers), C. R. Karisiddappa, Nor Edzan Nasir, V. L. Kalyane, Teh Kang Hai, and B. M. Gupta (3 papers each); 36 (45%) of the authors are geographically affiliated to Malaysia, authors affiliated to library schools were well represented (55.2%), the most productive institution is Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya with 26 out of 80 author's affiliation, the most popular subject is Scientific and Professional Publishing, 30 (39.5%) articles contained author's self-citation, while the rate of journal self-citation is found to be 27.6% and most of the articles (67.1 %) contained no formal acknowledgement
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dietary and environmental factors affecting the dynamics of the gut bacteria in Tibetan Awang sheep (Ovis aries) across divergent breeding models
IntroductionTibetan Awang sheep (Ovis aries), indigenous to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, are highly adapted to high-altitude environment. However, knowledge regarding their gut bacterial composition remains limited.MethodsA comprehensive 16S rRNA highthroughput sequencing was performed on fecal samples from 15 Awang sheep under pure grazing, semi-captivity, and full captivity breeding models.ResultsOur results revealed that Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were the most abundant bacterial phyla, while Christensenellaceae_R-7_group, Romboutsia, Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group, Ruminococcus, and Bacteroides were prevalent genera in the gut microbiota of Awang sheep. Meanwhile, the predominant presence of Bacteroides with increasing altitude of breeding locations indirectly demonstrates its crucial role in mediating energy acquisition among Awang sheep at high altitudes. Furthermore, PCoA and ANOSIM analysis exhibited significant differences in bacterial composition across all breeding models (r > 0.6, p < 0.001). Christensenellaceae_R-7_group, Romboutsia, and Ruminococcus were significantly abundant in the pure grazing breeding model, while Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group and Bacteroides were more abundant in the semi-captivity breeding model. An abnormally high abundance of Acinetobacter indicated a potential risk of Acinetobacter infection in the fully captive group. The environmental association analysis exhibited that meadows diet (R2 = 0.938, Pr[>r] = 0.001) and altitude (R2 = 0.892, Pr[>r] = 0.001) had significant effects on the dominant genera, explaining a substantial proportion of the total variation in community composition.DiscussionOur study indicated that breeding conditions significantly impact the gut microbiota of Awang sheep. The environmental association analysis underscores the importance of diet and altitude in shaping the gut microbiota of Awang sheep. The present findings provide insights into the microbiota dynamics of Awang sheep and offer guidance for their scientific husbandry management
A 2 h periodic variation in the low-mass X-ray binary Ser X-1
Spectroscopy of the low-mass X-ray binary Ser X-1 using the Gran Telescopio Canarias have revealed a ?2 h periodic variability that is present in the three strongest emission lines. We tentatively interpret this variability as due to orbital motion, making it the first indication of the orbital period of Ser X-1. Together with the fact that the emission lines are remarkably narrow, but still resolved, we show that a main-sequence K dwarf together with a canonical 1.4 M? neutron star gives a good description of the system. In this scenario, the most likely place for the emission lines to arise is the accretion disc, instead of a localized region in the binary (such as the irradiated surface or the stream-impact point), and their narrowness is due instead to the low inclination (?10°) of Ser X-1
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Both spending and tax policies have been implemented in the United States with the goal of stimulating private sector research and development (R&D). Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.
A new subcontinuum of β R\R.
Abstract. We present a method for describing all indecomposable subcontinua of beta_R \ R. This method enables us to construct in ZFC a new subcontinuum of beta_R \ R. We also show that the nontrivial layers of standard subcontinua can be described by our method. This allows us to construct a layer with a proper dense F_-subset and bring the number of (known) nonhomeomorphic subcontinua of beta_R \ R to 14
