Sape : The Community Binder
Get PDFThis book is written to provide an account of the substantial contribution of various organisations in bringing forth, and enhancing the level of, traditional sape music – for both national and international audiences. The sape is the traditional musical instrument of the Orang Ulu community, a group of indigenous natives who reside in the Baram area of Sarawak, Malaysia. This tribal group, mainly the Kayan and Kenyah are well known as excellent sape players and good sape makers. Lately, the sape has received tremendous and positive acceptance from the younger generation of Sarawakians. However, continuous efforts are required to conserve and instill further awareness of the musical tradition among this new generation, in order to ensure its continuity.
In response to this concern, a research collaboration was initiated among the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS); Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri, the organising committees of the Baram Sape Master and The Tuyang Initiative to document information related to the development and achievement of traditional sape music in Sarawak. The recent history of this indigenous music, as elaborated in this book, began with the endeavour of the Baram Sape Master competition – from its inception to successfully staging four winners internationally to promote its appreciation and expansion. To this end, the four winning players were interviewed and visually recorded in Miri and Long San, Baram.
This volume also contains interviews with the sape master, Matthew Ngau Jau, regarding his own efforts to promote awareness of traditional sape music. Through the management of The Tuyang Initiative, Mr Matthew's career has grown, not only in Sarawak, but also on the world stage. This book documents as well the rich history of traditional sape-making through the study of two traditional sape makers in Miri and Long Bemang, Baram.
For this project, data have been collected in audio-visual format and presented in a colorful and graphical book; a short video documentary accompanies the text. This book also applies Augmented Reality, a reality technology app that enhances the reader's interactive experience with just using a mobile device as a new approach and is the first of its kind to be applied through this book. It is hoped that, with the publication of this book, the efforts and success story of the sape master players can be shared with the global community and, through such means, public awareness of the beauty and importance of traditional sape music can be raised. Importantly also, it is the hope that this endeavour will contribute to preserving and maintaining the identity and culture of the Orang Ulu peoples in Sarawak

Voor het antwoord op deze vraag zijn de kosten van zowel de uitvoering met de punaise als die met de cutterzuiger bepaald. Inflammatory Pseudotumour of Stomach in an old lady: a rare case report
No full textInflammatory pseudotumour (IPT) is a rare benign solid tumor in adults and children. The prevalence, etiology and pathogenesis of this condition are still uncertain. Despite the use of modern laboratory techniques and imaging, it is often difficult to make the diagnosis of IPT. Besides, occasionally the nonspecific morphological appearance and clinical presentation of the mass may mimic other more common primary or secondary neoplasms. IPT is commonly encountered in the lung and mediastinum. Other sites include abdomen (liver, pancreas, stomach, omentum), retroperitoneum, pelvis (bladder) and extremities in children. We report a rare case of gastric inflammatory pseudotumour in a 65-year-old female patient. Clinical presentations and its management along with review of literatures are presented
Determinanten van kennisintensieve onderzoeks- en ontwikkelingssamenwerking
No full textIt is becoming increasingly important for companies to ensure a continuing supply of new knowledge. The development of innovative production processes and marketing strategies as well as better products and services improves the competitive position of firms on the world market. This is of special interest to Dutch firms who have only a small and open home market. The principal research question addressed in this thesis concerns the determinants that influence companies in their choice of whether or not to enter into a knowledge-intensive research and development collaboration. This thesis also looks in detail at the role of publicly financed research institutions such as universities, in the setting of the company innovation process as well as at cooperation among private firms. About 13% of all innovative firms in the Netherlands are engaged in some sort of knowledge-intensive research and development collaboration. Knowledge spillovers are an important reason to reject collaboration as a means of acquiring knowledge because spillovers worsen the appropriability conditions, thus decreasing the economic benefits gained from innovative efforts. In correspondence with the literature we find that a high level of R&D-intensity of the partners involved is a very important prerequisite for entering into knowledge intensive R&D-collaboration. Furthermore an important finding is that the probability of entering into a knowledge-intensive R&D-collaboration increases proportionally to the size of the firm. Most innovative firms choose to be engaged in both private and public types of knowledge intensive R&D-collaboration. From this it can be concluded that public and private types of collaboration are complementary to one another. Knowledge intensive R&D-collaboration is also of strategic importance making the decision whether to introduce either improved or newly-developed products onto the market. Firms engaged in knowledge intensive R&D-collaboration more often choose to introduce new products instead of improved products onto the market.Technology, Policy and Managemen
