    The aim is to collect general information about 3AR Listeners, including their program preferences on that station, their television viewing habits, their pastimes etc. The aim of the survey was to use this information to build up a profile of 3AR listeners for programming purposes. Topics covered include: radio listening habits; radio stations listened to in the last seven days; stations listened to for news; other 3AR programme types to which the respondent listens; segment of the day during which the respondent listens to 3AR; 3AR programmes to which the respondent listens, comments about these programmes and which programmes should be continued or discontinued if the A.B.C. decided to cut down its programming; type and location of radios owned; particular types of programmes that the respondent likes to hear on FM radio; television viewing habits; television programmes watched last night and whether that is about the amount that the respondent would watch on an ordinary week night/ Saturday/ Sunday; hobbies and activities; whether the respondent goes late night shopping and the time usually arrived home after such shopping; attitudes to radio listening; the amount of spoken word material preferred in radio programmes and whether that amount varies according to the time slot; the respondent's plan for the broadcast which is most pleasing; if given the opportunity to plan a program or a series for 3AR, the type of program it would be and the time it would be broadcast; attitude to radio programme and station selection; music preferences; and, newspapers and magazine readership.     The aim of this study wasto collect general information on the radio listening and television viewing habits in the Richmond-Tweed area of New South Wales, with specific emphasis on ABC radio stations 2NR (Tratton) and 2ML (Murwillumbah), both part of the Radio 3 network, and to a lesser extent ABC Television station Channel 6. The survey included questions on specific radio programs, and a three-day radio and television diary. Topics include: television ownership and type of set owned; number of hours spent watching television on weeknights; the frequency that the respondent watches specific news, talk shows and other programmes and an opinion of them; FM radio ownership; most frequently 'listened to 'commercial and ABC radio stations, reasons for their selection, and, satisfaction with the stations; other radio stations used by respondent; stations that the respondent would like to listen to but can't receive; number of hours per weekday spent listening to the radio; station that the respondent would turn on to get news in an emergency, cyclone warning information, fullest authoritative account of a current event, the time, and, information about local sporting events and about local tourist activities, and if the respondent does not use the radio, the source he would go to for this information; the frequency that the respondent listens to specific radio programmes and an opinion of these programmes; if the respondent listens to rural information programmes, how interesting and useful the information is to the respondent and suggestions for improvement; whether the respondent is able to identify the ABC station when he is listening; and, a three day media diary describing the respondent's radio and television usage and other activities during that period.
