Curator Boucher traces the evolution of Coutu’s work since 1997, the year he produced a photographic self-portrait which the author considers definitive of his artistic approach, and which was followed by a shift to sculptural installations. Emphasizing the aerospace connotations of Coutu’s work, the author focuses on two installations, one of which, ‘‘La Moderne,’’ was recently acquired by the Musée du Québec. UNA MONARQUIA SIN RAZON...DE ESTADO: LOS ESCRITOS TARDIOS DE JEAN BOUCHER

    No full text
In this work, the author presents an analysis of the writings of the French catholic theorist, defender of the alliance between the Spanish monarchy and the French monarchy, Jean Boucher, written in his years of exile in Flanders. The author shows as well that Boucher belonged to a time stratus characteristic of the old medieval theory of the king as sword at the disposal of the Church, exclusively legitimated by the church concession of his mission and directly —not indirectly— subjected to the spiritual power. In this way, the survival of this medieval understanding of the two swords until the beginning of modernity can be understood.

Scholars like any other? An inquiry into productivity and citations in the eld of contemporary China studies

    No full text
Social scientists have extensively studied the relationships between co-authorship, schol- arly productivity, and reputation, but few studies have examined these phenomena in the eld of contemporary China studies. This article aims to ll this gap by investigating the impact of co-author networks on productivity and citations. It draws its conclusions by analyzing 2784 articles published between 2011 and 2021 in nine major international journals dedicated to contemporary China. The ndings reveal unique trends among specialists on contemporary China, characterized by low average productivity and a broad publication distribution across disciplinary journals. The study also demonstrates a positive correlation between co-authorship, network connections, productivity, and citations, emphasizing the role of mentoring strategies and extra-mural collaborations in enhancing productivity. Furthermore, the formation of“invisible colleges” within the main networks is observed, in uencing the literature and citation landscape. However, these invisible colleges are not monopolizing publishing opportunities if com- pared with other elds of knowledge

The Space of Chinese Sociologists and Their Opinions on the Localization/Sinicization of Chinese Social Sciences

    No full text
ince the mid-1920s, Chinese sociologists have explored different paths toward the localisation/sinicisation of social sciences. While sociologists and social experts are now more broadly invited by the Chinese government to develop “social sciences with Chinese characteristics” and an “autonomous system of knowledge” to “tell beautiful stories about China”, vigorous academic debates are ongoing. Based on the International Chinese Sociologists Value survey, our article explores the possible structural homology between the position of Chinese sociologists and their position taking on the localisation debate by using geometrical data analysis. It demonstrates and explains its non-existence and showcases how Chinese sociologists capitalise on different sources of knowledge and silently limit the politicisation of their craft

The relationship between pesticide metabolites and asthma outcomes among women farm workers

    No full text
Includes bibliographical references.Various studies have demonstrated an association between exposure to pesticides and adverse respiratory health outcomes including non-specific respiratory symptoms, rhinitis and asthma. Few studies have investigated the relationship between pesticide metabolites and asthma outcomes and only a limited number have explored mechanisms for allergic and non-allergic airway inflammation in individuals exposed to pesticides. A previous sub-study of this group reported an association between allergic airway inflammation as determined by fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) and low levels of whole blood cholinesterase among women farm workers. The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between exposure to different pesticides (ascertained through pesticide metabolites concentrations in urine) and asthma phenotypes (based on respiratory symptoms, cytokine patterns and exhaled nitric oxide profiles) among rural women in the Western Cape Province

Nicolas Perrot ou les coureurs des bois sous la domination française (1889) is a novel about the life of a coureur de bois (french fur trader) during the New France era (around 1669). The author Georges Boucher de Boucherville is well known for his novel Une de perdue, deux de trouvées, but the work studied here has been long forgotten before it was first published in a single tome in 1996. As with every historical novel, readers have to inquire into the relationship the author has with historical truths. This master’s thesis focuses on the authenticity of the information contained in the novel. The analysis is based on research on the author and his work, the literary context and the two relevant periods (New France and nineteenth-century Quebec). Following these inquiries, we analyse the novel (guided by modern day ethnology) and come to the conclusion that Boucherville’s work deviates from the clichés usually associated with coureurs de bois and indigenous people
