Meso-scale distribution of summer monsoon rainfall near the Western Ghats (INDIA)
The spatial distribution of southwest monsoon rainfall is studied over Maharashtra State (India), which includes part of the well-known Western Ghats mountain range, near its western boundary, running almost from north to south, perpendicular to the summer monsoon current in the lower troposphere. Meso-scale analysis of daily rainfall is performed for Maharashtra State, including the Western Ghats, for the two mid-monsoon months of July and August, during the 10-year period of 1971-1980. Strong and weak monsoon days were identified for the 5-year period of 1976-1980. The meso-scale pattern of average daily rainfall is obtained separately for strong and for weak monsoon conditions. All these average patterns show the following features: (i) the rainfall increases rapidly from the Arabian Sea coast close to the line of maximum height of the Western Ghats; (ii) there are two rainfall maxima corresponding to the two mountain peaks parallel to the coast line; (iii) between the two mountain peaks, there is a valley which is narrow at the western end (upwind end), broadening towards the east (on the downwind side). Ground contour height of the valley rises eastwards and ends as a part of the Deccan Plateau east of the Ghats. Here the valley opens out like a funnel with higher mountains flanking its two sides. In the valley, the rainfall increases from the coast up to the line of maximum height of the Ghats, and then decreases eastwards towards the plateau. The rainfall isopleths also take a funnel-shaped configuration. An interesting feature is that near the wider section of the valley funnel, there is a rainfall minimum and then the rainfall increases further eastwards on the downwind side. This feature of rainfall minimum is somewhat similar to the rainfall minimum reported by Asnani and Kinuthia (personal communication); Asnani (Asnani GC. 1993. Tropical Meteorology, Vol. I. Prof. G.C. Asnani: Pune, India; 603) attributed the rainfall minimum to the Bernoulli effect. A somewhat similar phenomenon is assumed in the present study area
Detection of Contaminated Hazelnuts under UV Illumination
Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) is one of the most important crops in the world. Due to its high nutritional composition and enhanced flavors, it is used in numerous confectioneries, baking, and chocolate industries. During various cultivation, harvesting, and storage phases, hazelnuts can be prone to bacterial and fungal infections which damage their nutritional values as well as result in bad odor and unpleasant taste. This work proposes a solution to detect rotten hazelnuts by means of Ultraviolet (UV) light. In order to uniformly illuminate hazelnut samples and to capture high-quality images, an axial illuminator is specially modeled and printed using a 3D-printer. The sample images are captured at 450 nm and 750 nm. The healthy and rotten hazelnuts behave differently in the presence of UV light, such that the healthy parts produce fluorescence after absorbing the UV light and appear brighter, whereas the rotten hazelnut samples do not produce any fluorescence and are therefore darker in the captured images. The two images are then combined by using image division operation with suitable scaling factors. The resulting gray-scale images are converted into binary images using image thresholding. These binary images represent the damaged or rotten hazelnuts as black and the healthy hazelnuts are white in color. The percentages of black and white pixels determine whether a hazelnut sample belongs to the healthy or the rotten class
Producing green computing images to optimize power consumption in OLED-based displays
Energy consumption in Organic Light Emitting
Diode (OLED) depends on the displayed contents. The power
consumed by an OLED-based display is directly proportional to
the luminance of the image pixels. In this paper, a novel idea
is proposed to generate energy-efficient images, which consume
less power when shown on an OLED-based display. The Blue
color component of an image pixel is the most power-hungry
i.e. it consumes more power as compared to the Red and Green
color components. The main idea is to reduce the intensity of
the blue color to the best possible level so that the overall power
consumption is reduced while maintaining the perceptual quality
of an image. The idea is inspired by the famous “Land Effect”,
which demonstrates that it is possible to generate a full-color
image by using only two color components instead of three.
experiments are performed on the Kodak image database. The
results show that the proposed method is able to reduce the power
consumption by 18% on average and the modified images do not
lose the perceptual quality. Social media platform, where users
scroll over many images, is an ideal application for the proposed
method since it will greatly reduce the power consumption in
mobile phones during surfing social networking applications

Penelitian yang dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan kualitas dengan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK), yaitu bentuk pembelajaran yang bersifat reflektif untuk memperbaiki kondisi pembelajaran dan meningkatkan kemantapan rasional dari tindakan melaksanakan tugas dengan proses pengkajian berdaur, yaitu merencanakan, melaksanakan tindakan, mengamati, dan merefleksi tentang permasalahan kemampuan siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman siswa tentang tubuh dengan media gambar kelas II Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Raudhatus Shibyan tahun pelajaran 2012 / 2013
Berdasarkan refleksi PTK siklus I dan II penelitian ini, diperoleh data, aktivitas pembelajaran dengan menerapkan metode demonstrasi dinyatakan efektif dan meningkatkan kemampuannya, menunjukkan hasil pembelajaran yang maksimal. Hal ini disebabkan adanya peningkatan aktivitas guru dalam melaksanakan metode demontrasi.
Aktivitas siswa dalam pembelajaran dengan menggunakan Model Pembelajaran Demonstrasi sangat membantu siswa memahami dan meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam pembelajaran, hal ini dapat dilihat pada siklus I pertemuan 1 yang aktif 11,11%, cukup aktif 77,78%, kurang aktif 11,11%, Siklus I pertemuan 2 yang aktif 11,11%, cukup aktif 88,89%, Siklus II pertemuan 1 yang sangat aktif 33,33%, aktif 66,67%, Siklus II pertemuan 2 yang sangat aktif 44,44%, aktif 55,56%.
Hasil belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran materi tata cara shalat dengan menggunakan Model Pembelajaran Demonstrasi meningkatkan pemahaman siswa, hal ini dapat dilihat pada: Hasil tes siswa pada siklus I pertemuan pertama rata-rata nilai hasil tes formatif siswa adalah 6,44 dan petemuan kedua rata-rata nilai hasil tes formatif siswa adalah 7,11.Hasil tes siswa pada siklus II pertemuan pertama rata-rata nilai hasil tes formatif siswa adalah 8,00 dan petemuan kedua rata-rata nilai hasil tes formatif siswa adalah 8,67

mengakibatkan tingginya intensitas penggunaan gadget di rumah. Penelitian ini memliki tujuan yaitu menurunkan intensitas penggunaan gadget dengan mengimplementasika permainan tradisional gobag sodor. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh peserta didik kelas V SD Negeri 1 Dadisari Kecamatan Wonosobo Kabupaten Tanggamus. Objek penelitian ini yaitu orang tua peserta didik kelas V SD Negeri 1 Dadisari Kecamatan Wonosobo Kabupaten Tanggamus. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menujukan bahwa permainan tradisionalgobag sodor dapat menurunkan intensitas penggunaan gadget peserta didik di rumah.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.
