Aslan, Ahmet/0000-0003-1433-6149Objective: To demonstrate the utility of F-18-FDG PET/CT in the differentiation of benign and malignant solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura (SFTP). Materials and methods: A retrospective review was performed on the F-18-FDG PET/CT data from 17 patients with histopathologically diagnosed benign or malignant SFTP. The size, side of SFTP, presence of necrosis, calcification, pleural effusion, hilar lymphadenopathy (LAP), density on CT images (Hounsfield unit-HU), and F-18-FDG uptake (SUVmax) were recorded and compared in order to detect malignant SFTP. Statistical significance was set as p = 7 cm for size, = 3.47 for SUVmax was obtained by ROC analysis for detecting malignant SFTP. Conclusions: F-18-FDG PET/CT may have a limited role in diagnosing malignant SFTP in suspected patients. (C) 2015 Elsevier Espana, S.L.U. and SEMNIM. All rights reserved

Native fruit traits may mediate dispersal competition between native and non-native plants

Seed disperser preferences may mediate the impact of invasive, non-native plant species on their new ecological communities. Significant seed disperser preference for invasives over native species could facilitate the spread of the invasives while impeding native plant dispersal. Such competition for dispersers could negatively impact the fitness of some native plants. Here, we review published literature to identify circumstances under which preference for non-native fruits occurs. The importance of fruit attraction is underscored by several studies demonstrating that invasive, fleshy-fruited plant species are particularly attractive to regional frugivores. A small set of studies directly compare frugivore preference for native vs. invasive species, and we find that different designs and goals within such studies frequently yield contrasting results. When similar native and non-native plant species have been compared, frugivores have tended to show preference for the non-natives. This preference appears to stem from enhanced feeding efficiency or accessibility associated with the non-native fruits. On the other hand, studies examining preference within existing suites of co-occurring species, with no attempt to maximize fruit similarity, show mixed results, with frugivores in most cases acting opportunistically or preferring native species. A simple, exploratory meta-analysis finds significant preference for native species when these studies are examined as a group. We illustrate the contrasting findings typical of these two approaches with results from two smallscale aviary experiments we conducted to determine preference by frugivorous bird species in northern California. In these case studies, native birds preferred the native fruit species as long as it was dissimilar from non-native fruits, while non-native European starlings preferred non-native fruit. However, native birds showed slight, non-significant preference for non-native fruit species when such fruits were selected for their physical resemblance to the native fruit species. Based on our review and case studies, we propose that fruit characteristics of native plant communities could dictate how well a non-native, fleshy-fruited plant species competes for dispersers with natives. Native bird preferences may be largely influenced by regional native fruits, such that birds are attracted to the colors, morphology, and infructescence structures characteristic of preferred native fruits. Non-native fruits exhibiting similar traits are likely to encounter bird communities predisposed to consume them. If those non-natives offer greater fruit abundance, energy content, or accessibility, they may outcompete native plants for dispersers

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Aslan, Sema/0000-0001-9796-7311In this study, carbon material similar to graphene structure (GLS) was prepared from graphite and the carbonization of Turkish human hair fibers (HHC) and utilized for the modification of electrode to evaluate the supercapacitance performance. Electrochemical characterization of the HHC-based GLS (HHC-GLS) modified electrodes have been carried out with cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. the morphology and chemical composition of the resultant GLSs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-Ray diffraction spectroscopy, Raman and Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy analysis. HHC-GLS displayed a good electrochemical activity than the graphite sourced graphene and possess very similar morphological properties with commercial graphene. Carbonization of the waste hair was carried out at 280 degrees C to improve the pore structure as the first step of GLS synthesis. HHC-GLS modified electrode exhibited the best electrochemical activity and utilized as a charge storage device. the best specific capacitance value was found to be 139.00 F g(-1)in 6.00 M KOH((aq))at a scan rate of 100.00 mV s(-1)and good stability over 500 cycles. Whereas an energy density of 19.3 Wh kg(-1)and power density of 6.95 kW kg(-1)were obtained from the electrode when operated in the voltage range from -1.00 to 0.00 V. This work offers a new approach to human hair waste management in terms of promising green energy applications. This study was patented by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (Turkish Patent Institute Application Number: (2019/22841))

The effect of immigration on wages in three European countries

    No full text
We extend the Altonji and Card (1991) framework for analysing the impact of immigrants on natives’ wages from two to three labour types and estimate reduced form wage equations for The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Norway. We find very small effects on natives’ wages and no dominant robust patterns of substitution and complementarity. Effects on wages of earlier immigrants are larger but less reliable. Further work should focus on these own effects.

Mesud Mirza, 15. yy. Orta Asya şairlerindendir. Babası Sultan Mahmud Mirza (öl. 901/1495), dedesiise Ebu Said Mirza (öl. 874/1469)’dır. Mesud Mirza’nın soyu Timur (öl. 808/1405)’a dayanır. Şiirlerin 4’ü ise bütün nüshalarda vardır.Şiirlerin 85’i remel bahrinin fāǾilātün fāǾilātün fāǾilātün fāǾilün, 1’i feǾilātün feǾilātün feǾilātün feǾilün;5’i hezec bahrinin mefāǾilün mefāǾilün mefāǾilün mefāǾilün; 1’i muzari bahrinin mefǾūlü fāǾilātümefāǾilü fāǾilün kalıbı ile yazılmıştır. Şiirlerden 57’i yalnız buyazmada bulunmakta iken 3’ü İ ve 22’si D’de de vardır. 4 şiir ise bütün nüshalarda ortaktır. F’dekişiirlerin 75’i remel bahrinin fāǾilātün fāǾilātün fāǾilātün fāǾilün, 1’i feǾilātün feǾilātün feǾilātün feǾilün;8’i hezec bahrinin mefāǾilün mefāǾilün mefāǾilün mefāǾilün, 1’i müctes bahrinin mefāǾilün feǾilātünmefāǾilün feǾilün kalıbı ile yazılmıştır. 1 terci’-bendin vezni ise ahrebdir. Böylece yeni nüshalarla 155yeni şiir ortaya çıkmaktadır.Mesud Mirza (d. 1510) is one of the middle Asia poet lived in fifteenth century. His strain goes to Timur-i Gyurgyan (d. 1405). His father Mahmud Mirza (d. 1495) was a king in provinces of Khorasan, Hesar, Badahshan and Samarkand. Mesud Mirza has two divan, Turkish and Persian, and his penname is “Shāhi” for Turkish poems and “ǾĀrifi” for Persian. We have known that the divan’s two manuscript copies are in India Office Library. These were introduced by J. Eckmann in 1970. Later T. Mirzaev and M. Tekcan puplished these in 2001 and 2005 completely. Now, we learn about the existence of two manuscript copies more in Iran, we will show it with symbol of I, and Paris, we will show it with symbol of F. In this article we analyze these copies and peruse poems directionally additives to divan. The first manuscript I written in 1489, also Shahi Mesud Mirza was in life in that year, so we guess that he checked it entirely. There are 109 peoms in it and 95 poems of them are not in other manuscripts. These poems’ measure is ramal’s fāǾilātun fāǾilātun fāǾilātun fāǾilun mostly. The second manuscript is F that takes part in a macmua and it has 87 poems. 57 poems of these are not in Iran and Britain’s manuscripts. The most of these is written with ramal’s fāǾilātun fāǾilātun fāǾilātun fāǾilun. As a result we find out that, these two new copies of Shahi divan has 155 poems, also these are not in other copie
