    Mr Bawa I suppose

Mr Bawa, I presume Giovanna Silva The title of the exhibition, “Mr Bawa, I presume”, comes from the inner dialogue which takes place every time the author is in front of one of Geoffrey Manning Bawa buildings. In her photographs Silva explores the fleeting edge where different worlds meet. Along these lines of accidental collision, the architectural language withdraws and gives way to places slowly shaped between our memory and vision. Focusing on the results that this collision produces, Giovanna Silva provides us an unusual perspective on architecture and landscape: “I start to take picture while the world still asleep; I manage to immerse the buildings in a suspended dimension. They seem inhabited, a part from the trace left by people the day before. The result is a photo of unclean architecture, apparently inanimate but instead dotted with objects testifying the secret life of architecture.” Working between script and gaze, the photographic sequences bring us into an invisible dimension, disclosing a narration that is alternative to the official history of architecture. At the center of her work is not just the architecture but also the personal story of the architect where she finds herself: “my pictures and my works always begin from a narrative inspiration more than a starting fact. I’ve read that after having worked as a lawyer, he decided to become architect and went back to study in England. I was fascinated by the fact that he changed his life when he was 38 years old, I’m nearly 39 years old. Then I discovered his obsessive side, leading him to consider in his entire life only black and white (not by chance he has chosen a Dalmatian as a dog), his tendency to consider the architectural experience a team work, a reason why he would involve in his project artists and friends.” The photographs will be showcased between CAMPO and the Leporello library, marking a path in the city where the work could meet the absent-minded look of the passer-by. The street is the place where Silva’s encounter with Bawa’s work can live again in each chance encounter between the photographs and the involuntary gaze of the viewer. Together with Silva we might think: “Mr Bawa, I presume”

Kata kunci: sumpit, tas, olahraga, dayak    Abstract  Blowguns are an activity that Dayak tribes do to hunt. In eastern Kalimantan there is the Erau Festival which aims to preserve the culture of Kutai. In contest, the competitors contend with the difficulty of carrying very long Blowguns while competing. Dayak motif is a combination of an archetype that has its own meaning, then creation in various combinations of several basic motives that become a unity meaning meaningful circuit. The author wants to design a Blowgun bag, the container to carry the Blowguns. The design method is to collect data, analyze the data, determine the design concept, create alternative design, develop alternative design, until the final design. For that with the "Design Of Blowgun Sport Bag", users can carry Blowguns comfortably and safely while competing with ergonomic and aesthetic designs, because the vehicle has East Dayak motifs. Equipped with an orderly and neat configuration, and prioritizes comfort and safety for the users. So that all can be accommodated in the bag. Keywords: Blowguns, bags, sports, Daya

Utilising the Sustainable Development Goals in undergraduate assessment to develop their knowledge and understanding.

It is difficult in any environmental science degree to cover in depth the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), since environmental science is by its nature very broad. Nevertheless, there are methods by which students can gain a deeper understanding of the SDGs through formative or summative assessment. In a year 2 undergraduate ecology course (BSc Environmental Science and Sustainability), students undertake 3 summative assessments: scientific poster, annotated reference list, and scientific article (encyclopeadia entry) – the creation of all being based on the Double Diamond design model. To facilitate a greater understanding of SDGs 14 and 15, both have been used for the poster and scientific article with different cohorts. Topics from within SDG 15 (e.g., conservation of mountain ecosystems, sustainable management of forest, etc.) were offered as a choice to students, and each had to create a scientific poster based on their chosen topic. For the posters students receive individual 10-minute online verbal feedback to highlight excellent work and where their work could be improved. For the scientific article, students were asked to write a 500-word article on SDG 15 so that the reader had a clear understanding of the goal, and the associated targets and indicators. General comments from the students’ experience of completing the assessments were positive and confirmed a much-improved understanding of SDG 15. For the scientific article however, students struggled more with the strict author guidelines rather than the topic, for which they generally sourced relevant information – thereby demonstrating their improved understanding

Role of diagnostic laparoscopy in chronic abdominal conditions with uncertain diagnosis

    No full text
Introduction: Laparoscopy has proved to be an important tool in the minimally invasive exploration of selected patients with chronic abdominal disorders, whose diagnosis remains uncertain, despite exploring the requisite laboratory and imaging investigations like ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT) scan, and the like. Materials and Methods: Diagnostic Laparoscopy was conducted on 120 patients, admitted to the Departments of Surgery and Gynecology, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, with an uncertain diagnosis after four weeks of onset of symptoms. Conclusion: With laparoscopy providing tissue diagnosis, and helping to achieve the final diagnosis without any significant complication and less operative time, it can be safely concluded that diagnostic laparoscopy is a safe, quick, and effective adjunct to non-surgical diagnostic modalities, for establishing a conclusive diagnosis, but whether it will replace imaging studies as a primary modality for diagnosis needs more evidence

Abstract Aim To understand the global digital impact of World Hypertension Day and identify areas for further improvement to steer future policy development. Methods and results We used three social media assessment tools (Sprout Social, SocioViz, and Symplur) and Google Trends to obtain data about the total tweets and global impressions from countries worldwide about World Hypertension Day. Social network analysis of top influencers, associated hashtags, and keywords was performed to understand the context of the posts. With over 60 000 tweets reaching more than 250 million impressions, World Hypertension Day was a highly impactful event. A large spike of over 800% yearly increase was seen in 2021 that has greatly facilitated wider dissemination. However, there was limited collaboration among the top influencers and negligible participation from several African and non-English-speaking European countries. Conclusion With support from several governmental bodies, organizations and media outlets, World Hypertension Day is a highly impactful healthcare awareness day and presents a global case study of effectively utilizing digital resources for creating awareness among the global audience. Prioritizing equitable involvement from underrepresented and underprivileged communities must be focused. Future policy development of other awareness events shall extract the constructive feedback from these findings to promote global and public health. </jats:sec

ABSTRACT Introduction Odontogenic tumors (OTs) are a heterogeneous group of lesions that are derived from odontogenic apparatus comprised of odontogenic epithelium, ectomesenchyme, and/or mesenchymal elements. The OTs show marked geographical variation. This study was conducted to analyze the epidemiology and clinicopathological presentation of OTs based on age, sex, and site. Materials and methods This study was conducted in Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology. Records were reviewed retrospectively for all the lesions of oral cavity from January 2010 to December 2015. A total of 92 lesions were found to be OTs and were classified into benign and malignant tumors. They were further subdivided into three subtypes based on the types of odontogenic tissues involved. These were epithelial OTs (EOTs), mixed OTs (MIXOTs), and mesenchymal OTs (MOTs). Results Of 92 OTs, 84 were benign (males 48, females 36) and 8 were malignant (male 2, females 6). The most common benign tumor was ameloblastoma (AME) (20), followed by keratocystic OT (KCOT) (17), calcifying EOT (CEOT) (14), compound odontome (OD-Cd) (12), complex odontome (OD-Cx) (10), odontogenic fibroma (OF) (5), odontogenic myxoma (OM) (4), and cementoblastoma (CB) (2). The most common malignant tumor was primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) (3) followed by fibrosarcoma (FS) (3) and ameloblastic carcinoma (AC). Conclusion Author concluded that there was geographic and demographic variation in distribution of OTs, which may be attributed to socioeconomic and genetic factors. Clinical significance Literature showing prevalence of OTs in India is negligible. By this article, we have analyzed the frequency of various OTs according to sex, age, and site. A comprehensive record of OTs should be started so that pathologists and surgeons would be able to acquire the information about the tumor for reference in the future.
