In order to practice green chemistry, a simple and safe spectrophotometric method for iodide determination has been successfully developed based on the formation of a blue starch-iodine complex. Iodide was oxidized to form iodine prior to the addition of a starch solution, and the blue starch-iodine complex was directly detected spectrophoto-metrically at a wavelength of 615 nm. The chemical parameters, such as type, reaction time, as well as concentration of oxidizing agents and solution pH were optimized with respect to sensitivity and analysis time. The method showed optimum results under iodate oxidant with a mol ratio of IO3-:I- =1:3, reaction time of 5 minutes, and solution pH of 5. Under these optimum conditions, the method showed linierity measurements from 5-40 mg/L iodide with a correlation (R2) of 0.9889. This technique offers a simple, safe, accurate, and relatively fast method for iodide determination, which is prospective for monitoring iodide samples

Kadar iodida terkecil yang dapat diukur dengan menggunakan teknik spektrofotometri visible adalah 20,3 ppm dengan konsentrasi S2O82-100 ppm dan pada waktu 90 menit Kata kunci: iodida, kompleks iod-amilum, persulfat, spektrofotometri  AbstractThis study was to examine determination of iodide using persulfate visible spectrophotometry method based on complex formation of blue colour starch-iodine  determined at 540 nm wavelengths. Stages of the study include: determining the optimum time, determine the effect of concentration variations persulfate (S2O82-) and iodide (I2) on the iodine-starch complexes formation. Preparation of starch-iodide complex to do by reacting I-with S2O82- as an oxidator and starch as an indicator. The resulting color will be analyzed by visible spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 614 nm. Smallest iodide levels can be measured by spectrophotometric method at concentration  of  20.3 ppm and S2O82- 100 ppm and optimum time of 90 minutes. Keywords: iodide, iodine-amylum complex, persulfate, spectrophotometr
