Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Diagnosis of clinically suspected and unsuspected tubercular lymphadenopathy by cytology, culture, and smear microscopy
Cytodiagnosis of Oncocytoma of Parotid Gland: A Report of Two Cases
Among benign neoplasms of the salivary gland, malignancies are less common. One of the rarest tumours found in the oral cavity is oncocytoma, comprising less than 2% of all oral neoplasms and carrying a 1% risk of malignant transformation. Oncocytoma is rare among benign neoplasms, typically affecting females and impacting the major salivary glands. Literature discussing the cytodiagnosis of oncocytoma through Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is even scarcer. Cytomorphological features indicating a predominantly oncocytic population with benign nuclear characteristics suggest the diagnosis of oncocytoma. The presence of oncocytes alongside other cell types in cytology smears suggests oncocytosis or a tumour-like presentation of Warthin’s tumour. Due to its unique features and clinical presentation, clinicians may misdiagnose this tumour as pleomorphic adenoma, haemangioma, or another form of oncocytosis due to its rarity and clinical features. Therefore, only histopathological examination can provide a definitive diagnosis. The present report discusses two unusual cytodiagnoses of oncocytoma identified through FNAC of the parotid gland in a 50-year-old female and a 70-year-old male, along with their clinicoradiological findings and subsequent tumour excision. Furthermore, the authors aim to raise awareness about the importance of a comprehensive work-up and optimal treatment selection for these lesions
Clinical and cytological features in diagnosis of peripheral tubercular lymphadenitis – A hospital-based study from central India
Cytodiagnosis of Warthin’s Tumour in Submandibular Salivary Gland- A Rare Case Report
The cytodiagnosis of Warthin’s tumour by Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) in the submandibular salivary gland in literature is sparsely reported. Constituting an outnumbered portion of salivary gland neoplasms, it is a monomorphic adenoma that mainly arises in parotid gland. The occurrence of it in minor salivary gland and submandibular salivary gland is minuscule. Therefore, the confrontation of cytomorphological features of Warthin’s tumour poises the problem of interpretation. In spite of the fact that, Warthin’s tumour dispense as a clinically benign, slow growing and asymptomatic lesion with minimal rate of recurrence, nevertheless this entity is contemplated peculiar because of its unknown origin and cytomorphological appearance. The cytopathological smears prepared depict papillaroid sheets of oncocytoid cells which entails careful distinction for its diagnosis. The present article outlined such rare case of Warthin’s tumour for its cytomorphological character and its clinical finding for its medical rarity. Here by, authors describe a case of Warthin’s tumour of two years duration in a 44-year-old male patient in the right submandibular gland. The clinical examination had revealed it to be a mass of 4x4 cm lying just below the angle of mandible, with solid as well as cystic components. As a part of presurgical diagnosis the patient was referred for FNAC. The smears were prepared from both components of swelling and the peculiar case was pondered over for various concepts regarding its clinicopathological features with main emphasis on cytomorphology
Mutational Analysis of BRAFV600E by Polymerase Chain Reaction in Breast Cancer: A Narrative Review
A major cause of cancer-related death for women globally is breast cancer, calling for molecular insights to better prognosis and treatment. One of the genetic changes that contributes to the constitutive activation of the MAPK/ERK (mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase) pathway and promoting carcinogenesis is the BRAFV600E mutation, which has been extensively studied in melanoma. BRAFV600E has been associated with aggressive forms of breast cancer, including Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), and worse clinical outcomes, despite its rarity. The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-based methods for analysing BRAFV600E mutations in breast cancer, specifically Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC), are the main topic of this narrative review. The sensitivity and precision of different PCR techniques, such as droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), qPCR and traditional PCR, in identifying this mutation vary. The review emphasises BRAFV600E potential as a therapeutic target and prognostic marker, particularly considering the poorer efficacy of BRAF inhibitors in treating breast cancer than melanoma. The available data, which mostly comes from non Indian populations, highlights the need for additional thorough studies in a variety of populations, including Indian women, to fully comprehend the clinical significance of the mutation
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
