Bases de datos de genomas mitocondriales antiguos completos de humanos de América (haplogrupos B2, C1 y D1)
Bases de datos y multifastas de mitogenomas antiguos completos de los haplogrupos B2, C1 y D1 utilizados para los análisis filogenéticos de la tesis doctoral de la Dra. Arencibia titulada "Estudio de la dinámica poblacional humana en Patagonia meridional a partir del análisis de mitogenomas antiguos" (Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina). Estos archivos son una compilación de genomas mitocondriales antiguos completos de América publicados y disponibles en bases de datos publicas (GenBank, ENA), agrupados según haplogrupo para análisis comparativos. En estos archivos no hay datos que no estuvieran publicados hasta abril del 2023. Estas compilaciones fueron elaboradas en el marco de la tesis doctoral mencionada, y forman parte del material suplementario de la misma. Cada archivo multifasta contiene las secuencias de mitogenomas en formato fasta para cada uno de los haplogrupos por separado (B2, C1 y D1). En la planilla de cada haplogrupo se resume la información de origen de cada una de las secuencias. ---------------------- English version ---------------------- Databases and multifastas of complete ancient mitochondrial genomes of haplogroups B2, C1 and D1 used for the phylogenetic analyses of Dr. Arencibia's doctoral thesis entitled “Study of human population dynamics in southern Patagonia through the analysis of ancient mitogenomes” (Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina). These files are a compilation of complete ancient American mitochondrial genomes published and available in public databases (GenBank, ENA), grouped by haplogroup for comparative analysis. There are no data in these files that were not published until April 2023. These compilations were elaborated within the framework of the aforementioned doctoral thesis, and are part of the supplementary material of the thesis. Each multifasta file contains the mitogenome sequences in fasta format for each of the haplogroups separately (B2, C1 and D1). Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Response surface methodology for the green obtention of polyphenols from yerba mate
Optimal conditions for polyphenols extraction from plants under moderate conditions, and water-based is mandatory. In this work, a response surface methodology (RSM) was used to attain optimal conditions for polyphenols extraction from Yerba Mate (YM, South-America infusion) using water as solvent under ultrasound (US). The following parameters were varied: mass of YM/volume of water (YM/W), pH, temperature, and time. The optimal conditions were 90 ºC with a YM/W of 150 g L-1 for 5 min, at which the highest total polyphenol content (TPC) concentration (11300 mg GAE L-1) was found, together with an antioxidant activity of 132 mmol Trolox equivalent (TE) L−1 of extract. The conditions obtained from the RSM method were applied to other methods as follows: extraction without stirring, magnetic stirring assisted extraction and US with magnetic stirring assisted extraction. Results indicated that the US-assisted extraction was the most efficient for extracting polyphenols under these conditions. This study helps to developing an eco-friendly and cost-effective experimental design, reducing the production of wastes, and using a very fast water-based method.Fil: Arencibia, Nicolás. Ancient DNA studies: Use of ethnonyms and collaborative research in South America
The sudden proliferation in ancient DNA (aDNA) studies has prompted critical thinking on the subject and the development of recommendations that can be framed within the “Ethics, Legal and Social Implications”. The outcomes of these self-reviewing exercises have regional particularities in terms of their application and regulation. Aiming to contribute to these debates in South America, we focused on examining two aspects of aDNA studies: the use of ethnonyms and the evidence of collaborative research. We compiled 68 articles reporting genetic data from South American archaeological sites. First, we recorded edition and research-related general characteristics. Second, the discourse was analyzed searching for ethical-related issues like the use of ethnonyms, the justification for its usage, and evidences of collaborative approaches. Many articles included no information on the permits granted for analysis (44%) and the custody of the human remains (49%). Besides, ethnonyms were used in 41% of the studies mostly without any explicit justification. Finally, only 7% of the studies exhibited some evidence of a collaborative approach. These results help problematize and reflect on the ways of undertaking aDNA studies in the South American context, the limitations of scientific communication, and the social repercussions of these studies.Fil: Di Fabio Rocca, Francisco. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
