Comportamiento alimenticio del insecto defoliador nativo 4 Perzelia arda (Clarke, 1978) (Lepidoptera: Depressariidae)

    No full text
Anahtar Sözcükler: binge watching, aşırı izleme, art arda izleme, anlatıya dahil olma, özdeşleşme, çevrimiçi dizi platformlarıNew media technologies have enabled the diversification of viewing habits and audience engagement. Binge watching has become a prevalent phenomenon with the increasing use of video-on-demand platforms for watching online series in recent years. Media consumers can now watch television content on different screens with self-scheduled viewing behaviors. It is known that binge watching can be motivated by escapism or enjoyment, but its psychological processes and effects are understudied. This study explores whether binge-watching online series on digital streaming platforms is associated with greater narrative engagement and increased identification with the characters. An online survey (N=435) of Turkish viewers was conducted to investigate the associations between binge watching and narrative engagement and identification with characters. The results indicated that the frequency of binge watching is associated with stronger identification with characters and narrative engagement. Digital distribution is a trend that will only move forward, and streaming platforms will continue to change viewing behaviors. Keywords: binge watching, narrative engagement, identification, streaming platforms, online serie

A Multi-Language Comparison of Influences on Author Verification using Character N-Grams

    No full text
We create a new multi-language corpus for author verification based on Wikipedia talkpages, and evaluate the influence that differences in topic and time have on character n-gram author profiles. Topic alignment between two texts is found to increase author verification precision, and an authors writing style is found to change over time, but not more significantly after 3 years than after 1 year.Information ArchitectureWISElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

The vanishing author in computer-generated works: a critical analysis of recent Australian case law

    No full text
Abstract The use of software is ubiquitous in the creation of many copyright works, yet the requirement in copyright law that every work have a human author who engages in independent intellectual effort means that its use may prevent copyright subsistence. Several recent Australian cases have refocused attention on authorship as an essential criterion of copyright subsistence, and these cases suggest that much computer-produced output may be authorless and thus lack copyright protection. This article, the first in a two-part series, analyses how each case deals with the question of authorship of computer-produced works and why the use of software diminishes copyright protection for a significant number of computer-generated works. The article critiques the application of conventional notions of human authorship developed in the pre-computer age to modern productions and suggests alternative approaches to authorship that satisfy both the major objectives of copyright policy and the need to adapt to the computer age. The article argues that, without a broader judicial approach to authorship of computer-generated works, Parliament must remedy the lacuna in protection for these ‘authorless’ works. Possible solutions for reform are suggested. In a forthcoming article, the author comprehensively examines those reform proposals

Host plant choice and effect of temperature on feeding behaviour of Perzelia arda (Lepidoptera: Depressariidae), a leaf-tying larva, on Nothofagaceae from the Andean Patagonian forest

    No full text
Environmental temperature may cause changes in the physiology and feeding behaviour of herbivorous insects and, consequently, in the damage they can cause. In the Andean Patagonian forest, an eco-region dominated by trees of the Nothofagaceae family, it is common to find the leaf-tying larvae Perzelia arda consuming seeds and leaves of several species of Nothofagus genus. The pattern of damage caused by P. arda in these forests varies from year to year and even within seasons. We hypothesise that this phenomenon may be related to an increase in the ambient temperature of this region. The purpose of this work was to determine the host plant preferences of P. arda among four species of Nothofagus genus and to evaluate whether temperature influences the feeding behaviour of the larvae. We first evaluated the food preferences of P. arda by means of twochoice tests, using leaves of N. alpina, N. obliqua, N. antarctica and N. pumilio as stimuli. Secondly, we evaluated the effect of three levels of temperature on herbivory. Our results demonstrated that P. arda feed on and equally choose the four species of host plants studied. Temperature influenced the feeding behaviour of the larvae; high levels of consumption of N. obliqua occurred at 6°C and differed for the other host plant suggesting that consumption also depends on the type of food resource. In conclusion, the feeding behaviour of P. arda depends on a complex interaction between host plant and abiotic conditions. Further studies are required for a better understanding about the use of resources by this native insect, as well as the ecological consequences.Estación Experimental Agropecuaria BarilocheFil: Capobianco, Julio Nahuel. Diffusive author(s), cohesive author: Analysis of S/N (1994)

    No full text
This study indicates the ways in which various aspects of the author(s) are brought forth in Dumb type’s performance art, the S/N production. Previous research has suggested a non-hierarchical organization of Dumb type and the absence of a “privileged author” in Dumb type’s collaborative work, S/N. However, the results that I have investigated from member’s interviews on the creative process of S/N along with my analysis of the recorded images of S/N, indicate a different aspect of the author(s). First, S/N was created through, so to speak, the collective ideas of the members of Dumb type. Further, S/N has at least nine quotations from previous performances, installations, and printed writings, besides the work-in-progress technique. Explicating one of the “author functions” as given by Michel Foucault, each text has plural subjects of the author. However, it has been revealed from members’ interviews that Teiji Furuhashi had a decision-making role in selecting the members’ ideas within the performance. Since then, S/N has had plural subjects of creation; however, Furuhashi is one of the subjects of creation along with the “privileged author.” S/N has plural authors (diffusive authors) yet at the same time, it has a “privileged author,” Teiji Furuhashi (cohesive author)

    No full text
This study was designed to compare of laying performance, egg quality and bone characteristics of commercial and Türk laying hen genotypes kept in free-range system. A total of 720 laying hens (Atabey, Lohmann White, Atak-S, Lohmann Brown; n=180 hens/genotype) were used in the experiment. Production performance was determined as the mean of egg production, egg weight, and FCR value between 54 and 66 weeks of age. Egg quality parameters and bone characteristics of tibia and femur were measured at 66 weeks of age. The mean value of egg production was found to be higher in Lohmann Brown and Lohmann White genotypes compared to Atak-S and Atabey genotypes between 54 and 66 weeks of age (P<0.01). The brown eggs obtained from (Lohmann Brown, Atak-S) genotypes tended to be heavier than the white hen genotypes (Lohmann White, Atabey). The lowest mean value of FCR was observed in Lohmann White hens ranged from during the experimental period. The Lohmann Brown and Atak-S eggs obtained from (3.350 g/cm2 and 3.300 g/cm2) had a stronger shell strength compared to the Lohmann White and Atabey (2.847 g/cm2 and 2.910 g/cm2, P<0.01). The breaking strength of tibia was found to be higher in brown hens (366.0 N and 381.2 N) than white hens (267.0 N and 322.2 N) (P<0.01). These findings related to different genotypes could be instructive for arranging new management rules and nutritional advice for stronger eggshell and bone strength of hens in free range system

Dissipative Range Scaling of Higher Order Structure Functions for Velocity and Passive Scalars

    No full text
Differently to Kolmogorov's second similarity hypothesis, we find that the 2n-th order velocity and scalar structure functions scale with n-th order moment of the energy dissipation and the scalar dissipation, respectively. The origins of this scaling are analyzed by the transport equations of the fourth order velocity and scalar increment moments and by direct numerical simulations
