Povertà di reddito o di consumo? Aspetti teorici, metodologici ed evidenze sul caso italiano
Poverty is a pervasive phenomenon with severe economic and social consequences and should be !rmly contrasted by public policy. But what is the exact meaning of poverty? "e interpretation of the term indeed varies according to the various assumptions needed for its de!nition and measurement. In this work we explore the implications of using income or consumption-based poverty measures from both a theoretical and an empirical point of view. More speci!cally, after reviewing the pros and cons of the two approaches, we use a novel dataset that records income and consumption information for the same individuals to verify how incidence and characteristics of poverty change according to the chosen proxy of well-being
The income and consumption approach to uni-dimensional poverty measurement
In this chapter we first compare the pros and cons of using income or consumption to measure poverty. We then use an Italian dataset where income and consumption are jointly recorded to assess the implications of the two living standard concepts on the extent of poverty and the characteristics of the poor
Monetary poverty and adequacy of minimum income schemes in seven major EU countries. What linkages?
The paper is structured as follows. Section 2 briefly discusses theoretical and empirical links between poverty concepts and eligibility to MI schemes. Section 3 describes the eligibility criteria followed in the seven countries. Section 4 presents the main findings of our empirical investigation: the gap between the AROP and the administrative poverty line and how this gap changes according to the household composition
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
The Reform of the Minimum Income Scheme in Italy: Distributive Effects
Exploiting an innovative administrative-survey-linked dataset for Italy recording household consumption expenditure, absolute poverty status and receipt of social benefits in 2019 and individuals’ longitudinal working histories, the article investigates the distributive effects of the reform of the Italian minimum income scheme that, starting from January 2024, has replaced the former Reddito di Cittadinanza (RDC) with a new benefit, named Assegno di inclusione (ADI), that only protects some categories of households according to the characteristics of their members. The analysis follows three prospects: (i) inquiring who are winners and losers from the reform; (ii) evaluating the effects of the reform on absolute poverty and consumption inequality; (iii) estimating, on the basis of past working histories, if the choice of excluding some individuals from the ADI coverage is consistent with their actual employability. Our main findings are: (i) 47% of RDC recipient households lose right to ADI after the reform, while a much more limited number of households becomes eligible to ADI; (ii) the share of RDC recipient households excluded by the ADI is high for households made up of non-nationals (71.7%), despite the reduction in the residence requirement, for households in absolute poverty (40.6%) or where at least a member is a worker (57.2%); (iii) the reform increases absolute poverty and consumption inequality; (iv) no statistically significant differences in past working histories emerge between RDC recipients excluded from the ADI because of categorical requirements and those who satisfy the new requirements

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
