Baby sleep incidental aspiration – case report

    No full text
Aspiration pneumonia usually occurs among infants with co-existing medical states like neurological, abnormalities of deglutition, gastroesophageal reflux or congenital malformations. In rare cases, aspiration can also be accidental among healthy children. In this group of patients, aspiration pneumonia develops less frequently because of properly working protective mechanisms. The author presents an 8-week-old baby with no-comorbidities that aspirated during sleep. Due to the Breathing Movement Monitor alarm and proper observer reaction, the baby was saved. Observation of aspiration pneumonia was negative. The paper also presents some theory about apnea and aspiration pneumonia in children

The treatments comprised of baby corn as main crop along with radish, fenugreek and amaranthus as inter crops in different combinations and sole cropping of baby corn, radish, fenugreek and amaranthus. The results of the research showed that baby corn + radish + fenugreek intercropping system registered the higher baby corn equivalent yield of 10.44 t ha-1. The highest gross returns (₹322175), net return (₹258758) and returns per rupee invested (Benefit: Cost ratio) was also highest (4.08) in this treatment

Implied Author, Overall Consideration, and Subtext of "Desiree's Baby"

    No full text
This essay explores how to infer from a text the image of the implied author. It examines Kate Chopin's "Desiree's Baby" (1893), which has been widely regarded as an indictment of racism but which an "overall consideration" of the implied author's choices will lead us to see as a racist text. Through the interaction of various details in the text, the implied author suggests three racist dichotomies: (1) white characters' nondiscrimination versus black characters' discrimination, (2) positive slavery under white masters versus negative slavery under a black master, and (3) superior whites versus inferior blacks. This implied racist stance reflects the historical context of Chopin's personal experiences, but it contrasts with the quite different racial stances of the implied authors of some other Chopin narratives with different thematic designs. The complexity of the narratives under the name "Kate Chopin" offers an opportunity not only to gain a better understanding of the concept of implied author but also to clarify the relations (connections as well as disparities) among textual, intertextual, and extratextual evidence in literary interpretation in general.LiteratureA&HCI4ARTICLE2285-3113

TAR-BABY is a novel that utilizes folklore and speculative storytelling to tackle issues of community displacement, generational trauma within Black American communities, and self-definition in a society that antagonizes otherness. In this contemporary reimagining of the Tar Baby folktale, a young Black woman named Baby appears in a gentrified Midwestern neighborhood in the midst of a political battle between the older, white patriarch Eugene Fox and a young, charismatic Black man named Lucky Foote. After touching Baby, Lucky becomes preternaturally drawn to her. When Baby comes into contact with others in the neighborhood, she finds them similarly desperate to touch her. Seeking answers, Baby learns a devastating secret about her origins that forces her to wrestle with her humanity and sense of self.M.F.A.Includes bibliographical reference

Baby Monitoring System is a system that being developed for helping the elderly in monitoring the activity of a toddler. Hence, the objective of this system is to help parents or the guardians in monitoring their baby in the baby's room whilst they are at another place within the residence. The scope of study for this system is being performed around the residence place in which that there are family with a baby and also whereby parents are having trouble in monitoring their baby. For developing this system, the author is using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) as for the methodology and also the environment concerning in developing such system. The methodology consists of four phases that is Requirements Plarming, User Design, Construction and Cut Over. There are results obtain based on the studies made by the author during the development of the system. These results are being analyzed by the author in developing the system. The expected output from the results will be implementing by the author for the development of the system. As a conclusion, the system is being developed for helping the parents or guardians by using the feedback from the participants

    Hot Car Baby Monitor

    No full text
abstract: Year after year, babies are dying after being left behind in cars that reach dangerous levels of heat. This project, conducted by the Hot Babies Senior Design Team, aims to solve this growing issue with the development of a hot car baby monitor. This device is integrated with multiple sensors: temperature, sound, carbon dioxide, and motion in order to detect life inside of a hot car. By using different sensors, a combination of threshold activated signals can be used to provide high quality monitoring and reduce false alarms from outside noise. Once the algorithms predict the presence of a living being inside a dangerously hot vehicle, the baby car monitor will send out text messages warning designated parents and/or guardians of the issue. The baby car monitor is further optimized with a low battery indicator and a sleep mode feature. The schedule of the project is separated into the fall and spring semesters. For the fall semester, all of the sensors and the microcontroller were purchased and tested individually. For the spring semester, all of the sensors were integrated together on a PCB and tested under hot car environments. Additionally, features such as the text messaging interface and the sleep mode were added. The budget of the final working product is roughly ~ $200. The cost includes the different sensors, microcontroller, data plan, text messaging module, and PCB. When mass produced, the cost is expected to go down

Baby Bath Seats and Rings: Fact Sheet

    No full text
Baby bath seats and rings are devices used to hold babies in an upright position while in the bathtub. Some parents use baby bath seats or rings to free up their hands while washing a child. This occurs as suction cups fasten the seat or ring to the bottom of the tub, holding the baby in a stable position in the water. Some of these seats or rings may have an arm that attaches to the side of the bathtub to keep the baby’s seat in place

Apunipima baby basket program: a retrospective cost study

    No full text
Background: The Baby Basket initiative was developed by Apunipima Cape York Health Council (ACYHC) to address poor maternal and child health (MCH) in Cape York, the northernmost region of Queensland. While positive outcomes for Indigenous MCH programs are reported in the literature, few studies have a strong evidence base or employ a sound methodological approach to evaluation. The aim of the cost study is to identify the resources required to deliver the Baby Basket program in the remote communities of Cape York. It represents an initial step in the economic evaluation of the Apunipima Baby Basket program. The aim of this study was to report whether the current program represents an effective use of scarce resources. Method: The cost study was conducted from the perspective of the health providers and reflects the direct resources required to deliver the Baby Basket program to 170 women across 11 communities represented by ACYHC. A flow diagram informed by interviews with ACYHC staff, administrative documents and survey feedback was used to map the program pathway and measure resource use. Monetary values, in 2013 Australian dollars, were applied to the resources used to deliver the Baby Basket program for one year. Results: The total cost of delivering the Baby Basket progam to 170 participants in Cape York was 148,642orapproximately,148,642 or approximately, 874 per participant. The analysis allowed for the cost of providing the Baby Baskets to remote locations and the time for health workers to engage with women and thereby encourage a relationship with the health service. Routinely collected data showed improved engagement between expectant women and the health service during the life of the program. Conclusion: The Apunipima Baby Basket cost study identifies the resources required to deliver this program in remote communities of Cape York and provides a framework that will support prospective data collection of more specific outcome data, for future cost-effectiveness analyses and cost-benefit analyses. An investment of $874 per Baby Basket participant was associated with improved engagement with the health service, an important factor in maternal and child health. © 2016 The Author(s).Associated Grant:Lowitja Institute/James Cook Universit
