La securitas chez Sénèque : nuances lexicales et innovations conceptuelles
No full textThe contribution is to show how securitas in Seneca, differently from tranquillitas,
is configured as an original moral concept. It actually expresses a modified ethical value when compared to the Hellenistic concepts of α ταραξι ´ α, α πα ´ θεια and ευ θυμι ´ α, but, to date, such issue has often been treated by scholars in a very expedite or arbitrary way with inconsistent results as an outcome. This originality seems to be the result of a personal development, which is due not only to changes in the political and cultural context but also to the transition in the Latin language. Hence securitas appears as a concept expressed in a variety of internal articulations and which is also reflected in ethical practices that involve both the relationships with oneself and others.Hasic Anida.
