Public health insurance and household portfolio Choices: Unravelling financial “Side Effects” of Medicare
Large, unpredictable and not fully insurable health-care costs represent a source of background risk that might deter households' financial risk taking. Using panel data from the Health and Retirement Study, we test whether universal health insurance, like Medicare for over-65 Americans, shields against this risk promoting stockholding. We adopt a fixed-effects estimation strategy, thereby taking into account household-level heterogeneity in health status and private insurance coverage. We find that, before Medicare eligibility, households in poor health, who face a higher risk of medical expenses, are less likely to hold stocks than their healthier counterparts. Yet, this gap is mostly eliminated by Medicare. Notably, the offsetting is primarily experienced by households in poor health and without private health insurance over the observation period. From ecosystem to community. Combining entrepreneurship and university engagement in an open innovation perspective
The paper provides a new perspective for the analysis of academic entrepreneurship dynamics in an evolving open innovation context. Starting from an overview of the innovation (eco) systems approach and a focus on university engagement, we propose a paradigm shift towards the conceptualisation of an innovation community (IC) within and around higher education institutions (HEIs) boundaries. The main goal of the study is to show that the concept of IC can be applied to a knowledge-intensive hub, where open innovation (OI) processes successfully enhance knowledge flows in the context of advanced education programs and spin-off firm creation and management. Our research is explorative in nature and structured around a multiple case study methodology. The outcomes confirm that the IC view can acquire a theoretical relevance when referring to OI contexts involving public, private and institutional sectors. Practical implications include a further framework for both technology transfer operators and institutions
Technological and Innovative Advances in Sea-Land Logistics and Maritime Transport. A decade of transformation
The sea-land logistics and maritime transport industry have experienced a profound
transformation propelled by rapid technological advancements and innovative solutions. This
paper provides a comprehensive overview of the most noteworthy key technologies and
innovations that have shaped the landscape of sea-land logistics and maritime transport in
recent years. Focusing on the past decade (2013-2023), this study aims to detect insights from
cutting-edge scientific progress within the field.
The research adopts a meticulous approach, delving into the most relevant features and
characteristics of the latest evolutions and solutions in sea-land logistics and maritime
transport. By limiting the literature review to a specific ten-year timeframe, the study ensures
a concentrated exploration of the state-of-the-art developments. The overall framework is
designed to concentrate on technological and innovative aspects, offering a focused analysis of
the transformative trends that have emerged.
The paper categorises the technological advancements and innovations based on their
implications for sea-land logistics and maritime transport. Major areas of focus include
digitalisation and automation, intelligent transport systems, green and sustainable technologies,
and emerging trends in vessel design and propulsion. Through an exhaustive review of
scholarly contributions, the study distills critical insights into the applications, impacts, and
future trajectories of these technological interventions.
Key findings include the integration of digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things
(IoT), blockchain, and data analytics, into logistics and transport operations. Automation,
particularly in port operations and vessel management, emerges as a transformative force

driving efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Sustainable technologies, including alternative fuels
and energy-efficient vessel designs, garner attention in alignment with global environmental
concerns.
The study offers a synthesis of the most relevant and influential technological and innovative
developments, providing a roadmap for researchers, industry practitioners, and policymakers.
By focusing on the last decade, the paper contributes to a nuanced understanding of the ongoing
transformations and sets the stage for future research directions in the dynamic sea-land
logistics and maritime transport domain
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
