A test to assess the dynamic evolution of preferences in marketing surveys

    No full text
The subject of this paper is a two-stage hypothesis test, which may have interesting applications in several situations related to the opinion research field. Such test is based on the components of a Bivariate Correlated Normal random variable. In particular, it is based on the exact distribution of their minimum and maximum modulus. This test was proposed for the first time by Duncan in Miller (1981), and was recently improved by Pollastri (2008). In the latter paper a variant of such test is described, since two samples in two different times or situations are considered. Two kinds of applications are provided to show the wide range of usage

Regina Viarum heritage UNESCO, the new frontier of slow and sustainable tourism between East and West

The aim of this work is to analyze the economic and managerial perspectives of all public and private entities involved in decision-making, executive and control processes related to the protection of the new UNESCO site “Via Appia. Regina Viarum”. The survey is based on a theoretical reflection on the issue of governance and management of Public Value (PV) in the cultural field. The performance measurement at the level of public administration "groups" and networks and the consequent evaluation of management results can be carried out following the theoretical approach of Public Value Governance (PVG), which takes account of the exchange systems and relational capital built by the network actors. The conceptual framework for the PVG model analysis considers the co-creation of public value as the final performance outcome at the level of inter-institutional supply chain. The problem of measuring supply chain PV is placed within the context of describing the dynamics of programming, creation and evaluation of the performance cycle within “mixed” type inter-institutional chains, composed of a multitude of actors (public and private organizations, citizens/users) who cooperate to add value. The method adopted is based on the analysis of the management plan drawn up by the UNESCO Committee, which assumes a programmatic and strategic function in the development of the area in which the cultural asset is inserted, with a focus on the recomposition of the operational objectives linked to the numerous action plans and interventions in the cultural and tourism sectors. The formalization of a model for monitoring the variables affecting the Public Value creation in public-private networks is an immediate research objective able to integrate the theoretical framework of a collaborative and participative PV generation model in the cultural tourism management setting

DAA Treatment Failure in a HIV/HBV/HCV Co-Infected Patient Carrying a Chimeric HCV Genotype 4/1b

Approved direct antiviral agent (DAA) combinations are associated with high rates of sustained virological response (SVR) and the absence of a detectable hepatitis C viral load 12–24 weeks after treatment discontinuation. However, a low percentage of individuals fail DAA therapy. Here, we report the case of a HIV/HBV/HCV co-infected patient who failed to respond to DAA pangenotypic combination therapy. The sequencing of NS5a, NS5b, NS3 and core regions evidenced a recombinant intergenotypic strain 4/1b with a recombination crossover point located inside the NS3 region. The identification of this natural recombinant virus underlines the concept that HCV recombination, even if it occurs rarely, may play a key role in the virus fitness and evolution

Volume Analysis of Brain Cognitive Areas in Alzheimer's Disease: Interim 3-Year Results From the ASCOMALVA Trial

Background: Cerebral atrophy is a common feature of several neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). In AD, brain atrophy is associated with loss of gyri and sulci in the temporal and parietal lobes, and in parts of the frontal cortex and cingulate gyrus. Objective: The ASCOMALVA trial has assessed, in addition to neuropsychological analysis, whether the addition of the cholinergic precursor choline alphoscerate to treatment with donepezil has an effect on brain volume loss in patients affected by AD associated with cerebrovascular injury. Methods: 56 participants to the randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind ASCOMALVA trial were assigned to donepezil + placebo (D + P) or donepezil + choline alphoscerate (D + CA) treatments and underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging and neuropsychological tests every year for 4 years. An interim analysis of 3-year MRI data was performed by voxel morphometry techniques. Results: The D + P group (n = 27) developed atrophy of the gray and white matter with concomitant increase in ventricular space volume. In the D + CA group (n = 29) the gray matter atrophy was less pronounced compared to the D + P group in frontal and temporal lobes, hippocampus, and amygdala. These morphological data are consistent with the results of the neuropsychological tests. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that the addition of choline alphoscerate to standard treatment with the cholinesterase inhibitor donepezil counters to some extent the loss in volume occurring in some brain areas of AD patients. The observation of parallel less pronounced decrease in cognitive and functional tests in patients with the same treatment suggests that the morphological changes observed may have functional relevance

In the workshop on Diplomatic correspondences in the Italian Renaissance, directed in January-May 2018 by Francesco Storti and Francesco Senatore in the Istituto italiano per gli studi filosofici of Naples, 12 undergraduate and graduate students learned to read and trascribe italian diplomatic dispatches of the 15th cent., producing a specimen of scientific edition. In the opinion of the author, such activities and similar ones are very useful for future school teachers and scholars and they could be introduced in the university and pHD courses of history. Students of humanistic sciences should have concrete contacts with the historical research on primary sources. On the other hand, editing of historical sources could become a marginal activity because it is not enough appreciated in the current research evaluation processes.
