Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Il testo presenta parte di un lavoro di ricerca che punta a mettere in evidenza come innescare processi "sostenibili" nell'edilizia possa contribuire allo sviluppo delle risorse umane, materiali e culturali degli ambienti in cui si opera, a fronte di un mercato che tende ad ampliarsi per l'esigenza di costruire "edifici ad energia quasi a zero", come previsto dalle ultime normative del settore, in controtendenza rispetto a situazioni in cui l'attività costruttiva risulta invece fortemente impattante nell'utilizzare le risorse di diversi territori.
Nel lavoro si tratta specificatamente di un processo di qualità per la produzione di materiali e semilavorati, ricavati da risorse naturali attualmente trascurate per queste finalità, con particolare attenzione alla canna palustre. Dato per acquisito che tale materiale è molto interessante per costruire edifici ecosostenibili, la ricerca si concentra sulle condizioni strutturali riguardanti il mercato dei prodotti per l'edilizia in Italia: si osserva che nel nostro Paese questa risorsa non è facilmente disponibile per la scarsa attenzione che è stata rivolta all'ecologia delle zone umide; si evidenzia inoltre che la canna palustre, come altri prodotti naturali, sembra avere una grave limitazione di impiego anche per la difficoltà di raggiungere livelli di qualità garantiti e costanti, come invece accade per prodotti ricavati da processi industriali.
Facendo un'analisi parametrica con l'esperienza dell'"Etichetta Trasparente Pianesiana", che da decenni opera a livello nazionale e internazionale nel settore dell'alimentazione nell'ambito di UPM ("Un Punto Macrobiotico" fondato da Mario Pianesi), un elemento di novità della ricerca, presentato nel saggio, verte sulla possibilità di sperimentare un trasferimento al mondo dei materiali da costruzione di origine naturale dell'innovazione di processo che sta alla base di tale esperienza. La realtà dell'Etichetta Trasparente Pianesiana dimostra infatti che anche per i prodotti naturali si può ottenere la corrispondenza tra qualità dichiarata e qualità reale (corrispondenza che può essere in ogni modo verificata da terzi attraverso le procedure individuate da UPM) attuando un passaggio di scala che porta a certificare la qualità del processo produttivo a partire dalle coltivazioni in campagna e si sviluppa in tutte le fasi attraverso le quali il prodotto giunge sulle tavole del consumatore.
Nel saggio, si ipotizza che trasferire tale strategia al settore delle costruzioni potrebbe ampliare la produzione italiana di materiali di origine naturale di qualità controllata, ottenendone la disponibilità attraverso processi che hanno origine nella cura dei territori in cui fare crescere le piante da cui si ricavano i materiali stessi, con ricadute positive sull'ambiente, da cui ottenere vantaggi economici e sociali ad ampio spettro
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

“Soluzioni bioclimatiche e di building automation per la riqualificazione energetica di un edificio residenziale in clima Mediterraneo” = “Bioclimatic and building automation solutions for the energy retrofit of a residential building in Mediterranean climate”
The aim of this work was to establish the efficacy and the management modes of passive solar components and high energy efficiency systems on a case study in Mediterranean area. The case study consists of the housing renovation of a terraced house characterized by orientation not congruent with the principles of bioclimatic architecture, situated in the apulian coastal area (Noicattaro, Italy, 41°02’00”N, 16°59’00”E, 50 m a.s.l.). In terms of energy retrofitting, the intervention consists mainly in: improving performance of the opaque and transparent envelope, insertion of two solar sunspaces oriented east and west, replacement of the gas-fired heat generator with an air-to-water heat pump, installation of a "canadian well" for free-cooling and installation of a solar thermal system for the production of domestic hot water (SDHW). It is also planned the installation of a photovoltaic system that would allow the achievement of the NZEB’s targets. The results of performed simulations with TRNSYS calculation code showed that, despite the orientation is not optimal, the solar sunspaces contribute appreciably to the reduction of winter energy requirements and that the performance can be significantly improved by a mechanical ventilation system controlled by a differential thermostat able to regulate the ventilation between the sunspaces and the building. However, the climatic conditions in summer time require the use of solar shading and proper ventilation of those solar sunspaces. The automatic control (Building Automation System, BAS) of the solar shadings can assure a significant reduction in the risk of overheating without limiting the use of sunspaces. The modeling of the plant subsystem has confirmed the possibility and the convenience of using heat generators and heating terminals undersized compared to typical calculation procedures, when combined with proper management mode controlled by a building automation system. This choice will increase the percentage of self-consumption covered by the photovoltaic system and the pursuit of NZEB standard, which will be the subject of future studie
