    A security strategy for cyber threats on neighbor discovery in 6LoWPAN networks

    Reissued 27 Sep 2018 to reflect updated abstract on pages i and v.Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) employ various technologies to facilitate low power communications. One such technology is the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) Low Power Local Area Networks (6LoWPAN). One of the key concerns for 6LoWPAN networks is the vulnerability of its neighbor discovery (ND) protocol. In this thesis, we study the potential threat vectors against the ND protocol, focusing specifically on replay attacks that can cause denial of service (DoS). We propose a combination of hard and soft security approaches to mitigate cyber-attacks against the ND protocol. The hard security approach is based on a Trust-ND option, which includes a Timestamp, Nonce, and SHA-1 hashing function. The soft security approach leverages the social interactions between the nodes in the network to identify malicious nodes. We also propose a time-synchronization mechanism to synchronize the local clock of the nodes in the network. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the Nonce and Timestamp functions against replay attacks using the Contiki Operating System (OS) and Cooja network simulator. Via simulations, we also demonstrate the effectiveness of the time-synchronization mechanism.     Policy-driven Data Sharing over Attribute-Based Encryption supporting Dual Membership

    Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE) plays an important role in current secure data sharing through fine-grained customizable policies. However, the existing ABE schemes only support simple predicates, = and ≠, but cannot express a more general membership predicates, ∈ and ∉, in policies. The low expressivity of ABE will enlarge the ciphertext storage and reduce the communication efficiency. To overcome this problem, we propose an ABE supporting Dual Membership (DM-ABE). The core problem for implementing this scheme is how to use cryptographic methods to decide the membership between the verified element and the given set. In order to solve this problem, we design a cryptographic algorithm, called Secure Decision of Membership (SDM), based on aggregation functions. In this algorithm, any set can be aggregated into one cryptographic element, and the verified element and the given set can be converted into another cryptographic element in decision process. The membership between them can be decided by the above two cryptographic elements. Furthermore, we construct the DM-ABE by using SDM. Because of the good expressivity of our DM-ABE, we further propose a novel cryptographic data sharing framework by integrating DM-ABE and attribute-based access control to provide fine-grained access control and security protection for private data. In the security proof of DM-ABE, we prove that the DM-ABE satisfies the semantic security against chosen-plaintext attacks under the DBDHE assumption in the standard model through a unified way, considering both two encryption methods for ∈ and ∉ at the same time. Finally, we analyze our scheme in terms of time and space complexity, and compare it with some existing schemes.     Comparison is an essential cognition process of human kind. It is the internal motivation to generate various comparison categories. In 1898, Ma Jianzhong published his famous work Ma's WenTong, which started the study of the category of comparison. However, compared with the studies in other categories, the study in the category of comparison is still weak. This thesis is divided into nine chapters. In the Introduction (Chapter 1), the author presented the significance of this study, research methods as well as language materials resources. The overall study in this PhD work was concluded in Chapter 9. Besides these two chapters, the rest content of this thesis is made up of two sections. Section 1 includes 3 chapters, whereas Section 2 includes 4 chapters, which is specified as follows: Section 1: Systematic Study on the Category of Comparison The Chapter 2 is on the study of category of superiority. The Chapter 3 is about the study on the category of equality. According to nature and function of "W", which exist in sentence structure "X is Wer than Y", Chapter 4 presented the study on the category of superlative. Section 2: Specific Sentence Structures in the Category of Comparison Chapter 5 is on the study of the sentence structure "X is W er than Y".
