PHILOSOPHICAL UNDERSTANDING OF LEADERSHIP IN THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL ASPECTS
Get PDFThe article is devoted to the investigation of development of philosophical ideas of leadership. The accent has been made on the historical and cultural specific features of interpretation of the phenomenon of leadership in Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Modern Age and contemporary time. It has been concluded that leadership research can be divided into three main areas: 1) the first direction comes from the interpretation of leadership as a social and cultural universal as an activity inherent in society at all stages of its development and having general patterns of manifestation in all spheres of social life; 2) the second direction is based on the identification of leadership and management; 3) the third direction of inquiries singles out leadership as a separate social and cultural phenomenon with various aspects which it is not reducible either to the sphere of management, or to psychology, or to the activities of state authorities or individual political leaders.Key words: Leader, Leadership, Hero, Power, Society, Culture.
MENTAL BLOCKS TO SELF-DEVELOPMENT
Get PDFThe article is devoted to the issue of personal self-development and blocks which a person has to overcomein order to achieve the desired results.The accent has been made on definition of the categories of development and self-development. Personal self-development has been defined as a process of self-governed formation, development and improvement of the qualities, properties and functions of a person related to the physical, social and spiritual aspects of its being under the influence of biological and social, and internal (individual) factors. It has been stressed that in psychology there are two approaches to the problem of self-development – the subject-activity approach, and cultural-historical approach.It has been concluded thatawareness of mental blocks and conflicts allows us to understand that self-development is hard, difficult, and risky work with an unpredictable result. There are seven main mental blocks to personal self-development: loss of connection with the Self; inadequate self-esteem; fear of possible negative consequences of self-development; lack of a subjective position in development; experiencing semantic conflicts in relation to changing features or personality traits; fear of the unknown; lack of focus on the result.Key words: Person, Personal development, Self-development, Self, Self-esteem, Conflict
THE DHOFAR REBELLION (1963–1976) AS THE FINAL STAGE OF SULTAN SAID BIN TAIMUR’s POLICY
Get PDFThe article is devoted to the historical inquiry of the Dhofar Rebellion of 1963–1976 which was important stage of the historical development of the Sultanate of Oman. It has been stressed that the background of the rebellion determined by complex combination of political, economic and ethnic factors. The main reason for the support of the local mountain population of Karra and Kathiri for NDFLOAG (the National Democratic Front for the Liberation of Oman and the Arabian Gulf) was not revolutionary sentiments but ethnic problems. The Jebel Samkhan highlanders were not part of the tribal structure of Oman and had no place in the political elite. It has been concluded that Dhofar received its current status as a result of the Dhofar rebellion. The rebellion was the final and the most important stage in the policy of Sultan bin Said. After it Oman became a single state. The Dhofar Liberation Front remained an independent organization in Oman (based in London). It pursues the same policy but does not speak openly. MODELS OF POLITICAL LEADERSHIP IN THE ANCIENT EAST

The accent has been made on the specific features of political power in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, China and India. It has been concluded that any leadership model has its own social and cultural context and reflects the ideological and cultural specifics of the era. The common feature of ancient oriental models of leadership is bright mystical-religious character – the personality of the leader is deified and endowed with special, supernatural qualities which are often opposed to natural and social being. The personality of the ruler is always a kind of sacred authority that is worshiped and which guarantees the integrity and stability of the cosmic order. THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF SPORT IN DONBASS AT THE TURN OF THE 19th–20th CENTURIES
Get PDFThe article is devoted to the question of development of physical culture and sport in Donbass in the turn of 19th – 20th centuries. The aim of this work is the historical investigation of the main trends and features of historical development of sport and physical culture in Donbass in the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries. The accent has been made on the main directions of Donbass sport culture in this period. The emergence of the physical culture and sports movement became one of the new and progressive directions in the development of the national culture of the 19th century. Donbass sport culture was represented by such sport trends as cycling, wrestling, fencing, tennis, weightlifting, football and etc. It has been concluded that the Donbass sports movement developed in close connection with the activities of the leading industrial enterprises of the region and was an important element of the culture of leisure activities for the residents of Donbass. There is no unequivocal opinion about the existence of a single founder of Donbass sports. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
PERSONAL SELF-DEVELOPMENT, TRAINING AND EDUCATION: THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DIMENSION
Get PDFThe article is devoted to the psychological inquiry of personal self-development and its connection with education and training. The focus has been made on the terminological aspect of the problem. It has been concluded that personal self-development is the process of person’s activity in the social and cultural environment which includes three main phases: the phase of adaptation; the phase of individualization; the phase of integration. There are four main positions regarding the relationship between training and education in the context of personality self-development: training and education are indivisible processes; education is carried out in an extracurricular form; education is completely outside the training, but forms an axiological unity with it; personal education is mainly carried out by communities and groups that are not related to the field of training. There are three main approaches to the relationship between development and training: complete denial of any connection between development and training; identification of these two processes; the interpretation of development as a dual process, including training and maturation (in this case, development is recognized as a broader concept than training).
