No full textMicrohaplotype genotype data for 556 individuals (with anonymized identifiers) from 16 population samples.[1] This research receiveded funding support in part from the National Institute of Justice of the U.S. Department of Justice, grant number 2018-75-CX-0041 awarded to Kenneth K. Kidd, Ph.D. and in part from the National Institute of Health of the United States, grant number R01-HD102537 awarded to Curt Scharfe, M.D., Ph.D.
[2] The many samples of populations studied in the Kidd laboratory since 1985 have all been collected with informed consent under a general Yale protocol (HIC#8711001387) that was reviewed and approved by the NIGMS and CEPH. One third of the samples in the CEPH-HGDP collection came from Kidd lab population samples. (NIGMS stands for National Institute of General Medical Sciences within the U.S. National Institute of Health. French acronym CEPH translates as the Center for the Study of Human Polymorphisms. HGDP indicates the Human Genome Diversity Project.
The root causes of Stope Slippage at Kidd Mine, Canada
No full textKidd Mine has a production target of 2.5 million tonnes of ore per year in 2010. Seventy-five stopes are turned over to the next stope in order to achieve this annual production. Each turnover from stope to stope has an anticipated number of days based on the geomechanical relation between them. Due to the depth and size of the operation, it is crucial that this turnover takes place within the anticipated time to avoid delays in the mining sequence and cycle and set-backs in production. Currently delays in the stope turnover occur, this is called stope slippage. This thesis describes the occurrence and size of stope slippage in longhole mining, presents a system to identify and track the root causes of stope slippage and ranks the root causes of stope slippage at Kidd Mine. Volney, 'The ruins' and 'Catechism of natural law'
No full textVolney was once as influential as Tom Paine, and the author of one of the most popular works of the French Revolutionary era. The Ruins makes an argument for popular sovereignty, couched in the alluring and accessible form of an Oriental dream-tale. A favourite of both Thomas Jefferson, who translated it, and the young Abraham Lincoln, the Ruins advances a scheme of radical, utopian politics premised upon the deconstruction of all the world’s religions. It was widely celebrated by radicals in Britain and America, and exercised an enormous influence on poets from Percy Bysshe Shelley to Walt Whitman for its indictments of tyranny and priestcraft. Volney instead advocates a return to natural precepts shorn of superstition, set out in his sequel, the Catechism of Natural Law. These days Volney enjoys a high profile in African-American Studies as a proponent of Black Egyptianism

Awakening of racial awareness in "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd
No full textDuring the Civils Rights Movement some white citizens acknowledged their racism for the first time in US history. I call this phenomenon ''awakening of racial awareness''. Lily Owens illustrates such change in Sue Monk Kidd's The Secret Life of Bees. The methods used are a close reading and a focus on gender. As the novel is a Bildungsroman, Lily is in a state of liminality. The second part deals with the Black Madonna. It is the bridge between the awakening and her maturation process. Her experience raises questions of theology, gender inequality, and social issues.Durant el Moviment pels Drets Civils, alguns ciutadans blancs van reconèixer el seu racisme per primera vegada en la història americana. Anomeno aquest fenomen el ''despertar de la consciència racial". Lily Owens il·lustra aquest canvi a The Secret Life of Bees de Sue Monk Kidd. Els mètodes utilitzats són una lectura propera i un enfocament en el gènere. En aquest Bildungsroman, Lily es troba en un estat de liminality. A més, tracta sobre la Madonna Negra.
