No full textHicks talks about early years and coming to Purdue in 1953 as faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He became head of the Department of Education 1960 and in 1971 he reorganized it into nine sections. Hicks talks about the challenges and responsibilities as a department head including faculty research, faculty recruitment, and appointment of key people as assistant heads. Hicks was accredited by NCATE [National Council For Accreditation of Teacher Education]. He discusses the state of teacher preparation in the 1970s, 1980s and into the 21st century. Hicks discusses a trip in 1968 behind the Iron Curtin on the contrast in culture and life under Communism. Hicks is a researcher and author in the field of design of experiments
