Interview with Andreas Fickers (Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History)
Andreas Fickers is Professor for Contemporary and Digital History at the University of Luxembourg and the Director of the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH), 3rd interdisciplinary center at the University of Luxembourg and head of its Digital History Lab. He's also prinicipal investigator of several projects such as Popkult60 (Populärkultur transnational - Europa in den langen 1960er Jahren) or LuxTime (Luxembourg Time Machine).
Prof. Fickers focused on the hermeneutical foundations of Media and Television Studies, in publications such as Communicating Europe: Technologies, Information, Events, before shifting his main interest to Digital History and Digital Humanities. Currently, he is the editor of the Journal of Digital History and co-editor of the book series Studies in Digital History and Hermeneutics published by De Gruyter Oldenbourg

tradition of honing an ideal-typical definition of what makes “good
science” in favor of an exploration in the phenomenological descriptive
tradition of epistemic norms (values) as internalized by scientists. They
reflect on the six epistemic virtues that could be instrumental in prompting
a new “style of reasoning” that combines the epistemological, political, and
ethical dimensions of Digital Humanities practices in the global knowledge
ecosystem. The Tokyo 2023 workshop on the “Integrative Potential of
Epistemic Virtues in Digital Humanities” is a source of inspiration

Science means producing incertainty. An interview with the director of C2DH
Seit 2016 ist Andreas Fickers Direktor des Luxemburg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) an dessen Konzeption, Aufbau und Organisation er maßgeblich beteiligt war. Das C2DH hat in den wenigen Jahren seiner Existenz eine ungeheure Strahlkraft weit über den europäischen Raum hinaus erreicht und gilt hinsichtlich seiner Forschungsleistung und -kompetenz im Bereich der Digital- und der Public History als sogenannte Leuchtturm-Institution. Sowohl die Arbeit des Direktors, als auch die Forschungsleistung des gesamten Instituts werden alle fünf Jahre von einer international besetzten Fachkommission evaluiert.
