Il marchio nell’industria casearia italiana del Novecento: quale strategia?

    No full text
Business historians have recently developed an interest in brands and trademarks. Trademarks, in particular, are used to identify the firm’s market and consumer strategies in the long term. The paper is a first analysis on the trademarks registered by the most important Italian dairy companies during the 20th century, namely Galbani, Invernizzi and Locatelli. It shows that the trademarking activity was related to the changes in the demand and in the market. Trademarks registrations increased in periods of economic growth but they were also used as a protection strategy against both negative shocks and increasing competition. Moreover, it displays that throughout trademarks firms forwarded their intangible values to consumers

The evolution of European integration in the field foreign, security and defence policy and the coordination practices established by EU member states cannot be fully explained by looking at material factors only. The chapter adds to the picture the importance of identity, and, in particular, the we-feeling typical of belonging to a security community and security culture in the evolution of the practices adopted for the international projection of the EU and its member states. In consideration of the importance that support to the UN has acquired since the 2003 ESS, both as a strategic priority and as a constitutive element of the EU identity, the chapter focuses on the coordination practices adopted by EU member states in the UN General Assembly

Purpose – The aim of this paper is to investigate the meaning of terrorism, with a view to highlighting the main hurdles in the way of creating a working definition, as well as the necessity of developing definitions and classifications of this phenomenon. Design methodology/Approach – This paper provides an overview of the literature on terrorism as a social/political phenomenon. It is therefore based on secondary sources. Findings – While most literature on the topic finds it pointless or impossible to define terrorism, here we argue just the opposite. Common critiques of current definitions may be overcome by using multiple definitions and classifications. Research limitations/Implications – The paper provides the methodological foundations for a comprehensive theoretical analysis of terrorism. Originality/value of the paper – The paper applies insights from methodology of social sciences to the problem of defining terroris

The contribution analyses the development of dairy businesses in Lombard Alps and Pre-Alps between the end of the 1800s and the first decades of the 20th century. The essay will focus on “bergaminos” – shepherds practicing transhumance to higlands and lowlands – and on dairy firms which were established in the area, such as Galbani and Locatelli

Purpose – The purpose of this chapter is to investigate on the relationship between terrorism, criminal organisations, and the so-called “new wars”. Methodology/approach –Review of the existing literature on the “new wars” and on the terrorism-crime nexus; estimate of the financial revenues gained by terrorist groups engaged in illicit activities. Findings –Terrorist and criminal groups can develop several forms of collaboration. Whether terrorists convert to criminal activities or not depends on a variety of factors, both internal and external. In some cases these links are occasional and opportunistic, associated with the possibility of exploiting the availability of specialised competences in a stateless environment, in other cases the warring parties are directly involved and create stable relationships as a way to finance their war activities. Research limitations/implications – Lack of reliable data limits a comprehensive analysis. Nevertheless, the study has important consequences for designing and adopting more effective policies regarding terrorism, organised crime, as well as conflict resolution. Originality/value of the paper – The study presents an overview of different strands of the literature on terrorism; a discussion is articulated on the interplay between “new wars” and the terror-crime connection. Potentially fruitful avenues of investigation are suggested for future researc
